Bree did not want to see Dallas that night. But she knew that she couldn’t push him away forever—no matter how awkward it would be to look him in the eye after what Cerelia and Bella had told her.
They had been planning to have dinner together, just the two of them. Bree managed to get through most of the meal by asking Dallas how he had spent his day, how things were going, and what training had been like.
Unfortunately, that was as long as her luck held, though, because Dallas had decided to be polite for once, and asked Bree how her day had been.
“Fine!” Bree exclaimed. “Fine. Nothing exciting.”
Dallas raised an eyebrow at her. “You smell… embarrassed.”
“I’m not!” Bree insisted, and then added, “Can you stop reading my emotions?”
“It’s hard when you’re giving off that many pheromones,” Dallas teased. “Did something happen?”
“No,” Bree said.
Dallas looked at her disbelievingly. “Right.”
