Having a Death Knight as his company was never in his plans for the next three weeks while he was recuperating. That's basically what Isaac had been doing. Isaac and Knight did everything together, sightseeing, eating, learning, and playing board games.
Even when he was going to the bathroom.
"Dammit, Knight! Can you please not join me here?" Isaac shouted in irritation from behind a brush.
"But I thought you needed my help. You're the first guest who didn't want to take my life for honor, so I wanted to make you as comfortable as possible." The two-meter big Death Knight answered from behind a tree, "A snake might appear and bite you. I must protect you!"
"I'LL BE FI-" Isaac took a deep breath, "I'm thankful, but please not while I'm taking a shit, okay?"
"Fine! Call me if a snake bites your ass!" Knight warned.
Isaac let out an exasperated sigh, 'I owe Dragil an apology.'
Knight carried with him an innate sense of needing to serve and protect someone despite being a Death Knight, 'From what I understood, Knight had already been a Death Knight for fifteen years. Amazingly, he hasn't lost his mind yet.'
A Death Knight was considered a dangerous existence like a lich. Death Knights were treacherous beings who forgone their Oaths of Knighthood. They were seen as disgraceful, but they were strong, and if a Paladin or a Knight was to slay one, they would receive a substantial increase in reputation.
This led to several venturing to the depths of Knight's territory. They would draw their swords to claim the head of the Death Knight, and because they thought Knight's desire to stop was a trick, no one stopped to think and listen.
His challenger was never below level 500 and even just above 600, but they all fell to Knight's wiles and tactics, and these righteous people only ended up turning into points.
[Knight Lv. 551] Knight's level had increased substantially over the last few weeks, "There are more challenges this week than I thought."
Knight did not like the presence of his subjugators. But, Isaac enjoyed every second of the fight. He even prepared some snacks in advance and learned several different ways of fighting. So far, only Isaac had been the only one to meet Knight without showing the desire to fight him.
Other than inconveniences, they also did something peaceful together. While Isaac was rehabilitating, getting the hang of his body, and setting his balance straight after losing an arm, Knight would offer his guidance.
"Your left side is now heavier than your right, making it harder to move with precision. To counter this, try placing more force on your right leg and lean right when attacking."
Isaac tried Knight's advice and managed to complete a set of movements without tipping over, "...how do you know so much about these things?"
Knight lifted his boney left arm and said, "I had my left arm bitten off by a Lindworm. I was just a Page Knight at the time, hoping to get a chance to get a Class Advancement when I got a mission to check the eastern territories. We received a report that cattle had been disappearing. When I arrived, even citizens were disappearing.
"I was only sent to scout. I did my job, but just as I was about to leave, a kid… a young girl, came running, calling for help. She was barefoot, creating a blood trail with every step. She ran as fast as she could, screaming for help. Behind her was a serpent with wings, with two front legs about to rip the child apart. I didn't even have the time to think, and I jumped into the mouth of the beast to save the girl, losing an arm in the process. But, after saving the girl, I got a friend who nursed me back to health. She's a good lass…."
Knight fell silent for some time. His skull face couldn't show any expression, but the empty air was enough to translate his feelings.
"Are you okay, Knight?"
"Huh? Yes, um, I was just thinking about the time when I was alive, haha. Anyway, to finish the story, I saved the girl and managed to slay the Lindworm. My Class-Advanced then and there, and I gave my Oath not to a Master but to the people, swearing that I would protect the people, and I became the protector of the very town I saved. But, I did something that broke my Oath and was transformed into a Death Knight who knew I would grow back an arm doing so?"
"What about the girl?" Isaac asked.
"She was adopted into a Knight's Family, but…." an air of solitary sadness filled the air once again, and Knight decided that it was time to rest, "I will be resting for the night. I fear that tomorrow, there will be a set of hopefuls reaching their way here trying to make a name for themselves.""
'He must miss his friend.' Isaac thought to himself as he stretched his back. Finishing his dinner and downing the wine, he said, "Time for rehab."
A kilometer away from Knight's Cabin, a flatland plagued with monsters called Black Horned Worms. The Worms were burrowed underground and averaged Lv. 145 and were perfect hunting targets for his rehabilitation, or so it should be.
"Again?" Isaac said as he found a desolate land filled with mounds. The Black Horned Worms have already hidden from their most relentless predator.
Isaac had been hunting them so much for the past two weeks, only mounds they started fearing him.
After sensing Isaac, these worms would burrow themselves deeply and avoid him. But just because they retreated down below, Isaac wouldn't just give up; they were too delicious to not hunt, "There's no use hiding."
[SKILL] Great Armory — SUMMON WEAPON — [Greaves of the Dark Mountains]
Isaac summoned a pair of black greaves. After losing an arm, Isaac decided it would be best to polish his foot techniques.
"Time to come out."
[Isaac Lv. 158]
BOOM!
Isaac stomped on the ground with his greaves, and the earth shook, and those hiding underground burst out from their burrows. Isaac licked his lips with a smile on his face, "Dinner time-I mean training time."
Thus his training began.
Five days later.
"Do you need anything else, little Isaac?" Knight asked.
"I'm good. Food and water is the only thing I bring with me." Isaac tapped the bag on his back that was as big as him, "These dried worms and water should last me a month. "Besides, I looted a map from those who came to challenge you. I'll be fine."
"Is that so? How about the treasures I had back there? Are you sure you only want to take a little? This world has expensive things, you know? Those treasures you got wouldn't amount to a few Zens. Take a few Magic Weapons." Knight was about to pull a golden sword he had with him, but Isaac just stopped him.
"I'll be fine. Besides, I don't need much. I'm not leaving a dungeon. I'm leaving my friend's home. " Isaac answered as he lightly tapped Knight's pauldrons, "I'll try to visit with wine next time, so try not to die or fall to the curse of Death."
Knight nodded, and Isaac turned his back to his friend. It was finally time to continue his journey searching for the Fire Giants and find a Travel Stone to return home.
[The Crying Silver Moon has not risen: 65:17:10 before the next Crying Silver Moon]
Three days later, Isaac was halfway through the mountain, following the marked path on the map he "borrowed" from the dead people. Everything was going smoothly when he heard a scream outside his designated path.
"...no, Isaac, just let them. They die? They used the road where strong monsters resided; that's their mistake." Isaac did not want to get involved in something he could avoid.
Fwu!
A golden light shot up to the skies, and it would have been nothing special, but Isaac saw an image of a woman with golden, ethereal wings fly up and then dove back down.
Then, there was silence and soon followed by an explosion and earthquake.
"Oooh, that's interesting." Just like that, Isaac was transformed into a kid attracted to something shiny.
"KNIGHT!" Isaac shouted, his eyes filled to the brim with worry. The Death Knight who cared for him and nursed him back to health
