Chapter 1 - Prologue

Late at night, in North Star General Hospital, inside room 24.

We see a young man somewhere in his twenties staring at the ceiling in a daze.

He seemed as if he was afraid of something.

"To think I am going to die at 20," says the young man

The young man remembers how his life was.

When he was a little boy, his parents were never around.

He lived with his aunty Shakira most of his life.

His aunt wasn't rich or anything. She could only afford a small apartment on the hood.

It was a tough place to live every day. You had to worry if you were going to get robbed or shot.

Aunty Shakira always told him that there are only three ways to get out of the hood.

"You got to be smart, have money or know some bigshot."

"If you don't have any of those three things, you're stuck here baby." says his aunt

He didn't have many things in life, but the one thing he did have was his intelligence.

So he threw himself into his schoolwork. He wouldn't be happy until all he had was excellence.

All of his hard work paid off. In the end, he made valedictorian and graduated with honours at the tender age of sixteen.

Sadly, eight months after his graduation, Aunty Shakira died from a bullet piercing through one of her lungs.

It devastated Jamal greatly. His only family member in this world is now gone.

He mourned for her for three weeks and finally built back the courage to go to college.

Jamal did pretty well when he went back to college. He got good grades in all of his courses.

In his second year of college, he to get started sick.

At first, Jamal thought it was a regular virus but as his symptoms got worst he realized it may be serious.

He would often start feeling nauseous from eating simple foods like bread.

He would also get frequent headaches and would feel numbness in some parts of his body.

Jamal then got a checkup at the local hospital.

His doctor diagnosed him with stage 3 brain cancer.

He went through chemo; he had surgery but his cancer was too aggressive. It only got worse with each passing day.

He fought for an entire year, but in the end, it was all pointless.

Jamal's vision gets blurry with each passing moment.

With the last of the strength in his body, he opens his mouth and says.

"God, Buddha, Brahma, whoever's listening to me, I only have one wish."

"If I get the next life, I wish for it to be a happy one."

Then Jamal's vision goes dark.
