After stationing a few guards at Eleanor's house, Zane returned to the packhouse. He ran into Kiera as he walked over to the office.
"You are back." She smiled. "You must be hungry. Let me bring you some food."
Zane was not hungry. He had eaten with Eleanor. But he couldn't say no to her. "Hmm. You can bring some fruit salad."
"Fruit salad!" Kiera sounded surprised. The next minute, she smiled. "I will get it right away." She turned around and walked away.
Zane's eyelashes drooped. He noticed the disappointment in her eyes and understood that she had realized that he had eaten. He felt guilty for going to meet Eleanor last night without informing her and considered making up with her.
He entered the office and began working. A maid came in with a bowl of fruit salad.
Zane frowned at her, surprised. He thought Kiera would come, but instead, she had sent a maid.
The maid bowed and left.
