Chapter 27 - Surprise 1.2

Kai Evans

As I started to gain consciousness, I became acutely aware of how sore my face felt, and my body felt like I had been hit by a sledgehammer. A weak moan of pain escaped my lips as I opened my eyes - only to reveal that I had been blindfolded - and that my hands were tied behind my back. My feet were not tied together, but being unable to see would be a tough one to try and escape since I have no clue where I'm at anyways. I tried to mindlink Kit or Gio, or hell, anybody, but it felt like something was blocking me from doing so. What did this person want with me? In my house, I didn't smell anybody, so that means that they must have masked their scent, because they had been undetectable. I couldn't help but wonder if Gio and Kit had arrived yet and found out what had happened. Would they be able to even track me since they wouldn't be able to smell the assailant? Or did the assailant do something to me while I was asleep so I wouldn't be able to be tracked at all, and who knows what they have planned for me.

As I became intune with my other senses, I faintly could hear the sounds of footfalls, and I knew then that it wasn't just one assailant in this whole scheme. I cautiously sniffed the air, hoping to smell any kind of familiar scent but it was all lost. My jaw clenched as I thought of a way to get myself out of this situation, but I wasn't coming up with any good plan if I'm being honest. There just wasn't much I was going to be able to do at this moment...

And the little bastards knew it too.

"Kai, I'm sorry we had to do this." A very familiar voice sounded through the room.

"Alaric?" I questioned, wondering what he had to do with this.

"Yes, it's me." Alaric murmured, sounding like he was pretty apologetic but I was too pissed off to give a shit, "I'm sorry we had to come to these drastic measures, but we were pretty desperate. He wasn't supposed to hurt you like this, but... well, things got a little out of hand so I hope you can forgive us. It was never our intention to hurt you or anything. We just need to talk."

"And you couldn't have done this the proper way?" I growled, wondering what could be so important that they had to do this.

"We couldn't do it anywhere near other people." Alaric admitted, sounding very sure of himself, "but you're our best hope in convincing the Alphas to see our side in this. Once you hear us out, we have every intention of letting you go home."

"And why should I trust a single thing you say?" I snapped, just wanting to be with my Alphas.

"Because you don't have much of a choice." Alaric told me softly, and damn him, he was right.

"What do you need to tell me?" I asked him, honestly a little curious since I don't see why anyone would go to such drastic measures to get what they need.

I heard the sounds of someone walking towards me, and I stiffened, wondering if they were just going to hurt me instead of trying to work things out here. But instead of hurting me, they pulled the blindfold off of me, and I blinked my eyes repeatedly, adjusting to the dim light. I immediately recognized Alaric, and of course Erik, who no doubt was the one who ambushed me. But my eyes were drawn to the person who was standing in the shadows, and although I had only heard a description of him, my heart sank in my chest as I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

"Hello, Kai." He murmured in a soft, melodic voice.

He should be dead, I thought to myself as I uttered his name, "Eren?"
