The text said, "meet me at my place right now."
I had mixed feelings on whether to rejoice or to be anxious.
I grabbed my bike and rode to Aisha's apartment in a haste.
Edgy, I knocked on the door and Aisha's aunt opened up. "Temitope Bankole. Come in."
I entered the apartment apprehensively, hoping her parents weren't home and they turned out to be absent.
Aisha came down the stairs and immediately, she hugged me. "I really missed you."
"Aisha," in discomfort, I got lose from her tight grip and looked her in the eyes. "I am so sorry for everything. I didn't know what I was doing..."
"Do you just have to ruin the moment?! Look, I'm not angry or anything. I was but I reasoned the whole thing and realized that you weren't to be blamed completely. It was that witch and her manipulation."She held on to both of my shoulders and smiled affectionately.
"But..."
"But nothing! Jeez! Would you believe that this whole thing increased my fame and followers? After watching the original video, lots of people had wonderful things to say about how I overcame such a great temptation. So you see, everything worked together for good. Don't feel sad, okay? Let's put this event behind us, okay?"
"Okay."
"So where's Mr Wilson?"
𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.
"He's home I guess."
"I sent him a text asking him to come over but he hasn't..."
Before the statement could be completed, Remi walked in. I looked away from him in nervousness and he behaved as though I were invisible as well.
The night before, I had texted him once more and he responded. I couldn't keep deceiving myself or keep pretending.
"I know this might sound weird but I do have feelings for you.😥😩😩😩 and I've been thinking about you too.🥺 I'm so sorry for everything I said.😔"
"Oh..."
It took him a while to give an acceptable response.
"You know, I once broke my Dad's favourite cup. I tried fixing it before he would find it that way but somehow, no matter what I did, the cracks were still visible. What you said that day really broke my heart. 💔 I actually cried. You turned me down for a virtual feeling, Temi, after all we've been through together."
"Well, you were right about one thing: us being best friends and best friends keeping it as best friends. I pondered about it and realized that I should not have said what I said, I could have just killed the feeling. I don't even want to be in a relationship, not right now. So I don't know what I was expecting of you. Don't worry, I'll kill the feelings. You should too. For the sake of our friendship."
I covered my phone's screen on the bed and cried in forlornness. I lost Oliver and again, Remi. The troubles of my heart enlarged and it seemed like I was drowning in 𝑡𝒉𝑒 𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡 𝑑𝑒𝑒𝑝.
How could I have dared turn down a good guy like Remi for someone who was already off the table. The teeny feelings I had for him were being distracted by a virtual feeling.
My phone rang but I was disinclined to even check out whom it was. The call kept coming in and so I grabbed my phone to view the caller's name; it was Oliver.
"Hello, Tee."
"Hi."
"So you haven't been picking up my calls, why?"
"I'm just not in the mood right now."
"Aww, what's wrong? You know you can talk to me about anything."
"I don't want to talk about it, you might not want to hear this."
"Try me."
I took a deep Sigh. "Once upon a time, a girl liked a guy in her school but then he moved so far away. Later on, they met online and started to talk. He made her feel all the pleasurable emotions in this world and gave her the impression that he felt the same way. You there?"
"Yeah... But I have one question."
"There's no room for questions." I said further, "Little did she know that sometimes, spending too much time with a person online, on phone calls, can give you a special feeling and take your mind away from a true feeling. Then she found out that her best friend likes her and her prince is actually in a relationship that he never speaks of on the socials! She turned her friend down in an instant not realizing what she had done until it became evident that this guy is off the table and she saw her feelings for her friend. Now her friend is all messed up, regretful, and heartbroken and so is she. The end."
"Wait, what?! Are you messing with me right now?!"
"Whatever you think is your answer."
"Temi, why didn't you tell me this?"
"Cause I'm stupid, can't you see? What's the point anyway?"
"Damn, I'm so sorry. I'm sincerely sorry."
"Sorry for what exactly? It was just an infatuation. I'd have gotten over it sooner or later."
"And Remi?"
"He'll get over it. We'll all get over it."
𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞'𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫:
Remi kept a look of displeasure on his face.
"Mr Wilson, I missed you."
"Awww," he finally allowed the angelic smile.
"So I brought back lots of cool stuffs for you guys and 𝑔𝑖𝑠𝑡. Turns out that my stay in Kaduna wasn't as terrifying as I thought it would be. In fact, it inspired me for more contents and I also shot an amazing video there! It was so amusing!"
Aisha continued to chatter and I tried to chip in few things but I and Remi never responded to each other and Aisha definitely noticed.
"Okay, what's up with you two? Did you guys have another fight while I was gone?"
We gave no answer.
"I need some answers. What's going on between you two?"
I brought out my phone and showed her all of our texts, starting from the voice message. It was so awkward. Remi looked elsewhere absent-mindedly like it didn't even matter to him.
Aisha's mouth and eyes widened the more as she advanced through the texts.
"What?! You two?! This is unbelievable! Remi, what were you thinking?!"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?" She hurled a pillow at him. "You caused all this."
"A-ha!" ( ・ω・)☞ I said.
"Oh please. I didn't ask you to be so beautiful and to be my kinda lady, so it's your fault."
"Well, there's nothing wrong here... I guess. Best friends get married. Haven't you heard the saying, 'marry your best friend'? Marry someone who understands you, who can relate with you, who enjoys your company."
"A-ha!" ( ・ω・)☞ Remi said back to my face.
"But this doesn't apply to you two. For all we know, this might just be an infatuation or something like that. Don't take this seriously yet. Go on being good friends and let God have His way."
"Okay you're starting to sound like Remi."
"I learnt so much about God during my stay in Kaduna. I shot some videos with missionaries."
"Cool! I need to see it."
"But first, let's go live on Instagram and stir the minds of people on the topic of young people having feelings for a close friend and not knowing how to go about it, especially when they don't want to lose such friendship. And young people having feelings for someone then automatically making them a 'best friend.' "
