Chereads / Tempting Fate / Chapter 8 - The Date

Chapter 8 - The Date

Reed parked his car near Emy's office for about an hour and a half. He had been waiting for her to leave the office for quite some time. When he saw Emy come out and stand on the side of the road, he quickly started the car.

Emy stood outside their office waiting for a ride when a black car stopped before her. Emy frowned. She didn't know about that car. Gradually, the car window glass went down.

"Hi, Wifey!" Reed said, smiling.

Emy was surprised. She expected Reed's car to be similar to what he used earlier. He was driving a black sports car.

"What are you waiting for?" Reed said. "Get in..."

Emy first turned around and got in the car. Despite Reed's exceptional handsomeness and unmistakable demon-like appearance, it is evident that he desires her body, even at the cost of fulfilling Emy's wish.

'It never occurred to me that I would be a sex slave,' Emy thought.

Reed smiled when he heard what Emy was thinking. Reed thought about making fun of Emy.

"All I did to you was kiss you, and you call it sex slavery?" Reed chuckled. "If I had not come into your life, you wouldn't have experienced a kiss."

Emy turned to Reed. "W-what?"

"Why didn't you have a boyfriend?" Reed asked. "It's impossible not to have an admirer."

"I don't have time for that." Emy turned away from him. "It is more important for me to have something to eat every day and be able to study even until high school so that I can find a decent job."

"You're lucky because you met me," said Reed.

Emy smiled at Reed. "Yeah, I'm fortunate to have met you."

Reed didn't expect to see Emy with a sweet smile. He stepped on the brake, so they halted. Emy reached for the dashboard.

"What happened to you?" Emy was shocked. "Why did you suddenly stop?"

"Did you just do that to me?" Reed asked seriously.

"Huh? What?" Emy asked with a frown.

"That..." Reed asked.

"What is "that"?" Emy asked. "Please clarify so that I can understand."

"I saw your smile earlier," said Reed.

"Huh?" Emy's confused reaction.

"I don't want you to smile like that at others," said Reed.

"What?" she asked. "And why do I have to follow you?"

Reed said, "Because you are mine." "Let's eat before I take you to our house." He smiled mischievously. "Or can we do something else?" he asked, licking her lower lip. "Is it like eating each other?"

Emy's mind went blank at that moment. Reed looked at Emy. "Do you not get what I said, or are you acting innocent?" Reed asked.

"I don't understand what you've said," she said in a blank tone. She suddenly frowned. "I thought you wanted me, but you won't eat me. Damn, I didn't know that demons are cannibals."

Reed couldn't restrain his laughter. Emy's face showed innocence. She frowned while looking at him.

"Did I say something funny?" Emy asked.

"Nothing," said Reed. "Damn, Emy." He chuckled. "Your acting is persuasive. I'm about to believe you haven't had s-x yet."

Emy blushed. "Tatay is expecting me to have dinner with them," Emy said suddenly.

"He won't do that," he said. "I already told him we would have a date."

"Date?" Emy asked.

"Yeah, I read it in the magazine while waiting for you," Reed said. "A human woman enjoys having a date with her partner."

Emy secretly smiled. This is her first experience with dating. "I didn't know that humans are boring in relationships," Reed said. "They still need a lot of twists and turns to get the woman they want."

Emy didn't expect Reed to have dinner at an expensive restaurant. Reed grabbed her hips and squeezed them as they entered the restaurant. Almost all the customers looked at them, especially Reed. Emy even heard the whispers of the beautiful women sitting at the tables they passed. Reed assisted Emy in sitting. Emy was a little embarrassed.

"It's okay for me, even if we're just in the cheap eatery," Emy said. "You don't have to take me here."

"And why not?" Reed asked. "Didn't you like the place?" he asked, his brow furrowed. "I observe this location on a peculiar device known as a television."

"Well, I don't belong in this place," said Emy.

"Who told you?" Reed asked. "You are more precious than them."

"You're just saying that because of our deal," said Emy.

"You have nothing to be ashamed of," said Reed.

"Do you see them?" Emy covered her face with her hand. "Look at how I look compared to them," she said. "Do you think I shouldn't be insecure?"

"Yes," Reed said. "It would be beneficial if you didn't feel insecure, as I am by your side."

"I'm insecure because we're with each other," Emy stated without looking at him. "I look like your nanny."

Reed stood up and approached Emy. Emy glanced at him before lifting her head. As she did so, it became easier for Reed to kiss her lips. Emy experienced a tingling sensation in her ears. Everyone was staring at her, as if they were jealous of her. A few seconds later, Reed stops kissing her and returns to his seat.

"Why did you do that?" As she looked around, Emy inquired.

"Why?" he frowned. "Didn't you like my kiss?"

Emy's cheeks flushed red. The food server approached them and gave them the menu. When Emy saw what was on the menu, she motioned for Reed to bring his face closer to hers. Reed did just that.

"You choose my food," Emy whispered. "I'm not familiar with the foods listed here."

Reed smirked but didn't answer. Reed motioned for the food server to approach him and take their order. When the food server got their order, he left them immediately. Reed looked at Emy, and so did she.

"Are you sure the food you choose is good?" Emy asked.

Reed shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know," he smiled. "This is my first time eating at this place," Reed said as he looked around. "The food looks nice anyway."

"Are you serious?" Emy asked in disbelief. "What if we can't eat the ordered food?" asked Emy. She couldn't believe Reed had ordered foods they were familiar with or had tasted before. It was also her first time eating at that fancy restaurant.

"Don't worry; this restaurant is famous," Reed said. "It wouldn't be famous if their food weren't delicious, would it?"

"Haist, you are unbelievable," said Emy. "While we're waiting, can I interview you?"

"And what're you going to ask?" Reed asked.

"Anything. I want to get to know you. I want to know everything about you," said Emy.

"Okay," said Reed. "Ask whatever you want."

"Are you a demon?" Emy asked. Reed raised an eyebrow. "Why do you look like that?"

"What's wrong with my looks?" Reed asked. "As far as I know, I'm handsome."

"You're handsome, but shouldn't you have horns and wings?" Emy asked. "You are supposedly ugly."

Reed chuckled. "If I look like that, you'll probably be frightened," said Reed.

"Yeah, but I'll immediately believe you're a demon," said Emy.

Reed placed both his hands on the table and stared at Emy. "If I show you what I look like, can you promise you won't be afraid?" Emy didn't answer right away. "Demons are also developing, you know."

"O-okay. Why are you rich?" Emy looked around and turned her face toward him. "Where do you get the money?" Emy asked again. "Why do you have so many cars?"

"I can get and do what I want," said Reed. "I'm a demon, Emy. I can smell everyone's emotion, and that includes yours."

Emy looked around when there was a sudden silence—time stopped. What Emy sees is like a scene in a movie. She couldn't believe it. Even the water that poured into the glass stopped. Emy smiled, astounded by what she saw. In a few moments, everything moved again, as if nothing had happened.

"How did you do that?" Emy asked.

Reed didn't answer. He just stared at Emy. "You are amazing, Reed."

Reed smiled at her. "I know."

"Last question..." said Emy. "Why me?" she asked, looking around, then back at Reed. "With so many people with wishes, why did you help me?"

"I don't know." Reed shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe fate brought us together."

Reed's statement surprised Emy slightly. It surprised her that demons also believe in fate.
