I didn't look at Damon all night, especially when he came down to eat.
I could feel his stinging gaze on me, but I didn't move. I noticed that old lady Josie was suspicious of what was going on, because she was simply exchanging glances with Damon and me, but I just pretended not to care.
He also didn't ask when we were alone in the dining hall and kitchen. I hardly slept well that night. To that, the fact that I brought his condom with me accidentally. Oh, my goodness gracious! Ew!
The next day, I chose to leave first, because I couldn't really cope with what was happening to me there. I said goodbye to visiting my father, where in fact, my destination was Bonie's house. I went through the mall to change my clothes.
I also erased the skin darkener I used and stripped off the wig as well as the contacts. I put light make up and fix my hair before I left to visit Bonie. When I arrived at her house, I could not reach her, so in disgust I went to the boutique owned by her, where I was sure he was there.
"Bess!" She exclaimed the moment she saw me enter her boutique.
"I'm from your house." I frowned.
"Awe, I forgot to tell you. I had to come here. One of my staff left." I nodded.
"Oh what bad weather has brought you here? You were kicked out right away? You even said you'd message me, and I've been waiting for almost a week! "I massaged my temples.
"Right! I forgot, sorry Bess." She eyed me suspiciously.
"You forgot? Why are you super busy in that house?" I nodded.
"He's too good at keeping her secret. I can't still find or maybe it was just too early for me to know?" She shook her head and shrugged her shoulders.
"Did you even get a clue?" She sat down in front of me. She sat in the visitor's chair instead of me. I leaned my body closer to the desk and thought.
"There's a little bit, but it's still too vague. I wasn't even sure if it's literal or he just uses it as an idiomatic expression or what?" She also brought her face closer and seemed more intrigued by what I was referring to.
"What is it bess?"
"Yesterday, while I was serving for him. He was talking to someone on the phone and how many times did he order the person he was talking to to kill a certain person, and it creeped me out!" Bonie's eyes widened at what I said.
"My God, seriously ?! Oh my gosh! Maybe next time he'll follow you!" I quickly kicked him in the arm because of what he said. Dimwit!
"I'm serious because Bess! Maybe he's up to something shady. Isn't he a syndicate? Or doing something illegal?" I gasped as I pointed her out.
"Bess! Do you think he's one of those people who collects women to trade abroad? So he became rich?" I exaggerate.
But who knows, that's what he really is doing?
"Bess, calm down? He's a business man. Usually some of them, especially those like him, are competitive. Maybe he uses that term to, you know, burn down someone's business," I calmed down. Yeah, she has a point.
But is it still quite suspicious? He said that bluntly! He didn't even try to sugar coat it.
"Oh my! Don't overthink it, okay? Just continue observing and searching for the right answer. It's not right for you to just conclude, think what you're doing is still unfair for him. You ditched him," I sighed. We stopped talking when one of her staff came and ordered her to buy milk tea at the milk tea shop next to this boutique.
I shake it a little first before I put the straw in and sip on it. I gulped the liquid and chewed the pearl before I put it down first and bit my lip a little.
"He seems calmer than I imagined," I said loudly, so Bonie looked at me, who seemed to bother me with her deep thoughts as well.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"Nothing, I just find him calm based on his reactions. I thought I'd have a hard time getting along with him, but I'm not. Sometimes he's scary, it's hard to read, but I can feel that he's not that involved. I don't know. Or was he just a mischievous person whom I have to be careful of?" She pointed it at me while chewing the pearl soundly.
"Right! The latter one, you don't know him that well yet, you still don't know if it's true that you see him, you should be careful when he's around," I nodded. Maybe that's really the best thing to do.
We were interrupted when we heard the sound of Bonie's chime, a sign that someone had entered.
It's true that the door is just near Bonie's personal desk, so we immediately turned our gaze there to see who had entered, and we were almost out of breath when a familiar woman entered, followed by a familiar man.
Shit! I badly want to get out of here, but I can't move! He would be surprised if I suddenly stood up and hurried away! Their attention turned in our direction, and I couldn't escape Damon's sight.
His eyes narrowed on me and I pretended to be calm and as if I didn't know him.
He won't recognize me, will he? Shit! What if he knew me? What if, he had seen Katherine Reiss before? I am doomed! Calm down, Kath. Calm the fuck down and pretend.
What is Anaconda going to do here !?
"I want a long dress. That social guy really used to be huh, I'm going to walk the red carpet," I heard her calmly say to Bonie the moment that Bonie assists them and fuck! I can feel Damon's eyes! He's staring at me! since earlier!
Because I felt awkward, I turned my gaze outside the boutique and simply sipped my milk tea. Deep down inside me, I can feel my nervousness and fear.
I was afraid that he might recognize me, and it was too early for that! I still need to prove to my family that this man is just good for nothing. That he doesn't deserve me!
"Babe, how about you? They're also here for men, I want us to pair," I heard Anaconda say, and I almost got sick of the toying of her voice, I didn't hear Damon's voice though.
Bonie is busy looking for a design for an anaconda when her phone starts ringing.
"Bonie your phone!" I was getting her attention, but I guess the attention I got was different. Damn it! I just want to sink into my seat.
"Answer it first for me, Bess, please!" I heard her voice, so I allegedly took her phone and answered it without looking at who the caller was.
"Hello?"
"Hey lil sis, I'm going home next week."
My eyes immediately widened at what I heard. I stood up in shock and noticed the eyes of Anaconda, who was now sitting on the couch, looking in my direction. I can see from the side of my eyes how she looked at me from head to toe. I was taller than he was, even though he still had heels. She's a petite who's trying to be tall by wearing high heels.
I walked beside her, where I could clearly see the outside, and folded one of my arms across my chest. There was another look that pierced me, but I remained calm and pretended they were not here.
"Chrome," I called its name and I even heard him seem to have dropped something following his series of swearing.
"Kath? Is that you?" he nervously asked.
"Yeah. What did I hear before? Are you coming home? You didn't tell me that? How dare you!" I complained. I hate him.
"K-Kath, what's the matter?... it's a surprise."
"Really? I was really surprised! Fuck you! How many months have you not contacted me, then you're going home?"
"I'm sorry, I just really want to surprise you."
"Who is it, Bess?"
"A damn parasite!" I answered after I hung up.
I didn't realize that Damon and Anaconda were still looking at me. They were still sitting there while Bonie was walking closer to the two who were looking at me.
"Parasite? I guess it's brother Chrome?"
"Your damn brother is a freaking liar, Bonie! I swear I will really divorce him!" She chuckled. He handed the dress to Anaconda, which she accepted before heading to the fitting room, but what makes me uncomfortable is Damon's glare.
Wait---he's glaring at me?
I shifted my gaze to him and bravely met his eyes, and that's when I confirmed that he was really glaring at me for I don't know what the fucking reason?!
"What?!" I asked Damon angrily, to which Bonie sighed. I almost forgot that I should have ignored it.
"Oh sir, I'm sorry for my friend. She's just stressed about her love life."
Damon ignored her and kept staring at me.
"You're familiar," Damon said, making me nervous.I feel like I'm going to be anxious and I can't sit still.
"Everyone I meet says that," I replied back. He was about to speak when Anaconda came out and walked in front of Damon, my eyes rolling. Damn it! She really has high confidence. Maybe when God exploded confidence, she caught everything. It was overflowing.
"That's enough. I still have things to do," Damon took out his wallet and handed a gold card to Bonie to pay for it. Wow, very gallant.
Anaconda, on the other hand, has almost a bright eye. I get it. She clings to Damon. Now I'm interested. What the hell is her name? Is she rich? Or just a feeling rich. Is this Dame's kind of girl? My God.
"Thank you, babe! I am so lucky!" I can't help but roll my eyes once again.
When they left, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
"That fucking Damon with his social climber and gold digger bitch!"
"Calm down, think about Chrome first," she said, laughing, so I was even more pissed.
We're not really in a serious relationship. I just need to be his girlfriend so he can go to Cambodia. Their parents wouldn't have let him if it wasn't for me, and since I'm bored, I just let it happen. I didn't know that we would take almost 6 years with such a set-up. We don't love each other. That's the truth. It's even clearer that the two of us are considered friends inside our relationship, and that's very convenient for me. I also don't know why no one is breaking up with the two of us even though we have no intention of loving each other. He doesn't like me to be his lover, and likewise.
"Let it go. Once we really meet, I'm going to break up," she laughed especially.
"As if, Bess! In the almost 6 years that you've been together, haven't you even developed?"
"Goodness! You're aware that we don't like each other. We're just friends."
"That's where our mom and dad started, right?"
"Argh! Stop with your teasing game." I hissed.
"What bothers me right now is what that squid face told me!" I scoffed.
"Squid face?"
"Damon," she burst into laughter.
"You're serious! That so-freaking-handsome one. You just call him a squid ?!"
"What ?! He really is a squid face for me! That's better than shrimp though. What should I call him then? Jelly fish?"
"Stop! My God! You really are savage!" I shook my head and took my purse.
"I better go bess, I'm still going somewhere," I let him know. She led me outside until I could get in the cab. I went straight to an acquaintance's house and when the door opened, a face I had not seen for a long time appeared.
"Kathy?" I gave him a wide grin before I immediately went in.
"When did you come back?" he asked after he followed me.
"Last week," After rolling my eyes, I turned to face him.
"I want you to do something, Fern," his eyes widened at what I said. He's a detective. Good thing I have someone like him on my side. I know he can be trusted.
"Wait do they know aunt you're home already?" I shook my head which surprised him even more.
"Damn, I'm sure I'm sorry for whatever nonsense you're up to right now," it muttered. While I was complacent, I threw the purse on the couch and sat down. I even crossed my legs.
"Don't tell them, I don't want to get married?"
"Married? They want you to marry someone?"
"Yes! That's why I'm hiding, and that's connected to what I want you to do."
He nodded as if he understood my situation. He was able to face me calmly.
"What do you want me to do?"
"I want you to investigate Damon Dankworth and gather all the crucial information about him. It is not wrong to know my fiancée deeper, right?" At first he had no reaction, but soon he suddenly stiffened in his stance and his eyes widened as he stared at me.
"No way, Kathy, let me do everything. Don't do that." Coward!
"Why? What's the sense of your job and license?"
"You don't understand, aside from the very limited I can know about him, is the fact that I still love my life." He's indeed a coward!
"I thought you could help me. You're just a coward!" I grabbed my purse and was ready to leave when he chased after me.
"Kathy, it's not like that but ---" I looked at her violently.
"But what?!"
"Because he's the type of person you'd rather just ignore than try to interfere with," fear flashed in his eyes, so I had a stronger feeling that Damon wasn't just a famous rich man.
"Kathy, be careful. He's the kind of man you shouldn't mess with. That man is dangerous, he's heartless."
"What do you know about him?"
"I can't tell you the exact word, but I can just let you know that he is... not good."
Fern told me the same thing until I got back to Damon's mansion, and the moment I stepped in ... I immediately felt like there were eyes watching me and waiting for me to arrive.
When I looked up, I saw a pair of ocean blue eyes staring at me.
