When Defiance opened her eyes, Conrad was singing. It took a while to realize that he was singing to her. It was the sweetest sound she had ever heard.
She kept her eyes closed so he wouldn't stop singing and she burrowed deeper into his embrace.
There was something about his voice and the safety he offered that reminded her of home, which was weird because home was never safe, at least not in that sense. It was either she was fighting vampires or werewolves or witches yet she missed it with every fiber of her being. And so, she kept her eyes closed and she stayed still.
But somehow it also reminded her of the crippling fear she felt when her uncle Elliott died.
