Chereads / Genius cultivator in the apocalypse / Chapter 5 - Apocalypse

Chapter 5 - Apocalypse

As the foreign energy rampaged inside his body, a different kind of entity was rampaging on the streets. It had gray skin, a muscular body, and dull white eyes. Its movement was slow but from the way the ground cracked slightly and the ease with which it smashed open a man's skull, Gran thought that its strength was not bad.

There were many monsters like this roaming around destroying vehicles and humans alike, cars were overturned, and the streets were filled with dead bodies and missing limbs. One building suddenly burst into flames as a figure dashed out the windows into the streets with its body covered in flames.

From outside the hallway of his floor, and all over the building, in fact, he could hear groans and muffled screams. Tremors occasionally happened accompanied by the sound of exploding bodies.

'What in the world is going on.' Then he saw one of the previously bitten humans awoken and turned into that monster. Its pale human skin started to fade into a metallic grey, and its black pupil disappeared into its cornea, leaving behind a dull white. Its shoulders drooped as it joined the rest of its gang to bring terror to humanity.

'Zombie? Seriously?' Gran left the window and turned around to find May rousing from her unconsciousness. She sat up and rubbed her head. "Oww what the hell happened? It felt like I was hit by that muscular arm of yours." She looked up with an aggrieved look on her face "Did you really have to hit me?" she pouted. "Shut up, the world has gone to hell. There is probably an explanation for that energy blast. Maybe it was the cause of all this." Gran said as he beckoned her towards the window.

May stood there, dumbfounded as she saw the wreckage that continuously piled up along the streets. "Omg, did my dream really came true.. pui pui." she slapped her mouth as reality hit her, that this wasn't a dream.

"W-what do we do now." She asked as her voice trembled, not knowing whether due to fear or excitement.

"Wait, let me think." The wisdom root in his brain shimmered as his brain went to overdrive. Many thoughts and scenarios flashed past his mind, many decisions and plans being made and unmade. Finally, he looked at May and said, "Go check my fridge and cupboards, make a list of all the perishable and non-perishable food. Test if the tap is working. Also, find yourself a suitable weapon. I'll be back."

With that he disappear from the living room and came back with a weird belt around his waist.

"O-okay!" she replied late as the commands just registered in her mind. "What about you?" she asked.

"Me? I'm going to confirm some things." Gran replied with a slight smile. With that, he left through the front door, after confirming that the coast was clear. "Huh??" May stood there, not knowing what to say to the already gone figure.

...

Gran flashed around the hallways of his floor, decapitating any nonliving thing. With that he already confirmed some of his conjectures, although it still left him shocked, with a hint of anticipation.

With each slash of his sword, the notification will ring in his head, confirming that the novels he used to read when he was young weren't all bullshit after all.

Although the 'zombies' were tough for a normal human, it wasn't anything hard for him. A single slash was all it took to bring one of them down. 'Zombies' was what he was going to call the monsters from now on, it fit the theme.

'I wonder how the mountain is doing now. Knowing them, they are probably having fun stretching some of their old bones. Heh.'

As he stood there, amongst a pile of zombie corpses, he checked one thing off his list. 'Invasion of foreign entity, checked.' "Now to see if it's really like this, system!" he said loudly, and lo and behold a screen appeared in his mind. It wasn't like he could see it physically, he just saw it in his mind, how fascinating.

'Holy shit is this normal? Well, I am a cultivator after all. Shit, I'm op now.' A huge grin was seen on Gran's face, 'But why is mana not with the rest of the stats?'. One thing wasn't following the script. Now he had to find out why. 'I guess I have to clear a few floors to find out.' With a flash, he disappeared.

...

"Fuck, fuck, fuck! What are these things, they don't die!" Dacol smashed a zombie in the head repeatedly, only to find that they were taking longer to kill than expected. "Didn't the novels say that their head was their weak point, clearly their head is the strongest point!" *Slash* *Splurt*

The zombie's head got sliced in two as the corpse collapsed, revealing the perpetrator behind its death. A beautiful woman, armed with a long sword, stood valiantly amongst a few piled-up corpses. "Looks like they are more susceptible to sharp edges than blunt ones," she said, glancing at the lampstand in her childhood friend's hand. "Ummm, ha.. haha.." he hurriedly tossed it aside and headed for the hotel room's kitchen, aiming to find the knife he used last night. "Shit. Just as we were going around inspecting the hotels, this shit happened. What in the world is going on now. Where is the damn knife! Hey, how come you have that cool-looking sword? Do you have another?" He questioned as his eyes and hands looked around frantically.

"I was practicing my swordsmanship when all this happened, I rushed here as fast as I could." She said while looking at the fine weapon in her hands, made with Cold Iron, the sharp edge threatened to tear the space surrounding it apart as the unblemished blade reveal a sharp glint. The handle was made from a 100 years old Scorched Tree, a tree that has suffered from a lightning strike and survived for 100 years. Today was the first time the sword has tasted blood and flesh, and she could faintly sense it wanting more.

Furrowing her brows at the weird sensation, she tried focusing her senses on the blade and was shocked to see something appear in her mind.

[Artifact]

Made from wood carved from a demon who has survived for 100 years after its tribulation, and metal of one of the finest ores in this world.

'Artifact? Interesting.' She sheathed her sword and looked at the fool in front of her.

'Hmmm? All my stats increased by 10, interesting...' Gran found out that mana was not like in the novels, where its only use is for skills. Although that may be one of its uses, still, now it seems like the body absorbs mana from the zombies and once it reaches a certain point will... breakthrough!

Arriving at this conclusion, Gran's eyes suddenly lit up as he started laughing madly. "Finally, I have found it! I'm sure of it. This is the key to my breakthrough! Mana! Ohhhh, why do you come only now, papa has been waiting for so long!! Mwahahah!" The survivors in their homes once again reinforced their decision to stay at home, avoiding the unspeakable horrors outside.

...

The apartment door burst open as Gran entered with large strides, a grin plastered on his face.

"What happened!!" May came running out with a knife in her hands, pointing towards the disturbance.

"Something wonderful happened! Amazing! Terrific!" He strolled towards her, unable to conceal his excitement.

A flood of euphoria surged towards his brain as he picked her up and spin her around, she looked increasingly beautiful in his eyes now.

*Muacks*

After giving the frozen woman a long kiss, he let out a satisfied laugh and strolled back out the door, giving it another slam.

"Huh??!!!" May let out a scream.
