It was the next day and Ethan was once again eating with Kirk in the cafeteria and Surrounded by the normal squad including Joseph,Vidash,John and now Francis who was back from the hospital. Apparently he hadn't been bitten by any of the 'rabies infected' people but had had an accident at home that required medical attention on the same day that the 'rabies patients' attacked. The boys had been talking for about five minutes now and Ethan wanted to ask them a question. "Hey guys, have you heard of the gods?", Ethan asked the group. This was supposed to be his research work. Hermes had asked him to find out everything he could about the gods so that teaching him about his newfound power would go smoothly but why should he bury himself in piles of books when he could just ask others for the information?, Ethan reasoned.
"Gods?, I thought there was only one God. The father of Jebus or something.", Joseph said with a frown. Vidash on the other hand was looking quite thoughtful. "I dunno about that God but in hinduism we have several gods and they all play key roles in our life.", Vidash finally said. "Oh yeah, like what? Do laundry and clean your homes", Joseph said with a laugh but stopped when he realized that Vidash wasn't laughing. "True,we don't worship them anymore like in the past but the older one's like my grandma still pay respect to these guys. My grandma even says they are real and that they have just shifted away from humans because of our stubbornness.", Vidash continued. "Please..forgive me Vidash but I don't believe that crap. If god's were real then wouldn't they have done something when the third war started?, Or the second war? Or heck the first war. People were still worshipping them then. I gotta admit they sound interesting but they are unreal.", Joseph finished.
"Well, Indians aren't the only ones with multiple gods. The great Egyptians had several gods too. Hundreds to be precise. But they had main ones that everyone worshipped and called upon in times of need.", Francis chipped in his worth. Ethan turned to look at him. "How do you know that?", He asked francis. "Well, I may not look it,but I read a lot. Plus there are movies about gods. Countless. How don't you know about them?". Francis asked back. "I'm a little different francis. If it doesn't give money,it's not worth my attention. That has been my motto for a long time." Ethan answered. "Yep, if it don't give money,it don't deserve attention." Joseph agreed.
"Fact is..there are many gods. There are Greek gods, Egyptian gods, Norse gods, Chinese gods, Japanese gods...", Kirk started to say but was interrupted by Joseph. "Russian gods, Canadian gods, American gods...Many gods. Yup." Joseph finished to laughter from the boys around the table. "So Vidash, why don't you tell us about your main Hindu gods. I'm interested.", Ethan asked. "Well, our main gods are only five in number but there are other powerful and popular gods as well. It will be good if I mentioned them.", Vidash informed Ethan. "Sure, it'll be cool." Ethan answered.
"Well start with the eldest and most powerful. He's the god of creation and represents the universe' mind and intellect. He's really powerful since he can manipulate anything he has created. His name is Brahma. ", Vidash said. "This guy sounds a lot like that guy from the bible.", John said. "Yh he does. It will be worthy to note that Brahma though was worshipped centuries before the bible came into existence but I don't want to go into any of that.", Vidash explained. "We then have Vishnu who is the god of justice and moral preservation. Shiva, one of the most famous gods in hinduism is the god of protection and destruction at the same time. Now you know why he's so famous. Next up is Kali, the goddess of time, death and doomsday. She is vicious and is only called upon when one wants to completely annihilate ones enemy including their whole bloodline. Lakshmi is the goddess of purity, grace, beauty and fertility. Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and art. Ganesha, the elephant headed god is the god of wisdom and success. There's also the god of war, skenda or something. This are the only ones I can think of so far." Vidash concluded. "Hey..what about the most famous of them all. Krishna?", Kirk asked. "Yes,what about Krishna?, Even I know him.", Joseph also asked. Vidash just shook his head as he started explaining. "Krishna is no doubt powerful and famous but we believe he's just the reincarnation of the lord Vishnu. The funny thing is that Krishna is not even the 1st nor the 2nd reincarnation of Vishnu but the 8th. So you see, Krishna is just Vishnu in another body so there's no need to mention him after I mentioned Vishnu.", Vidash informed everyone. Kirk was shaking his head as if he had been tricked by a con-artist.
"What about you francis. Tell us about the Egyptian gods.", Ethan asked francis. Everyone turned their attention to the dark haired boy."well, the Egyptian gods are an interesting bunch. For centuries scientists and cultists alike have been fascinated with them. They are the most famous of all the gods.", Francis declared to which Kirk just snorted. Francis though did not appear to have heard or seen kirk's reaction. "They guided their people to great heights and at the very top of the godly food chain was Amon-Re. Amon was an individual god of the sky. He was called the 'Hidden one's and Re was also the individual god of the sun. Later it was realized that these two was the same person hence the fusion of the names, Amon and Re to give 'Amon-Re'. This guy was the most powerful of all the gods. He was the king of all the Egyptian gods. None could light a candle to him.", Francis started spectacularly. Everyone at the table was enthralled and listening with rapt attention.
"Another very famous and important god was osiris, the god of death, the underworld and resurrection. This dude was murdered and dismembered by his brother, seth. Later, his wife reassembled his parts and resurrected him. He knocked her up after coming back from death and she gave birth to another god. Horus. This guy, Horus had a falcon's head and was the god of the sky and hunting. He was raised by his undead father to avenge his death. It is said that he lost his left eye in a fight with his monster of an uncle, Seth. Apparently his eye was restored by the god Thoth. The next god I'll talk about is Seth. This guy was the god of chaos, violence, deserts and storms. It figures right?", Francis asked his silent audience who just looked at him.
"The next god in line is Thoth. This was the god of writing, knowledge and wisdom. This guy is said to have invented language singlehandedly. The next god is Hathor. This was the goddess of fertility and Motherhood. She protected women during childbirth. Then there was the most famous goddess of the Egyptian gods, Isis. She was the wife of Osiris, the mother of Horus and her picture of her carrying the baby Horus is believed to have influenced the depiction of the virgin Mary carrying Jesus. Now to my final and personal favorite Egyptian god who is almost as famous as Isis. The jackal god,Anubis of the dead. Before Osiris stole his position,he was the god of the underworld and the dead. After Osiris did him in though,he was given the job of escort. Yup, he started guiding dead souls to the underworld to be judged. He was also said to be the one who weighed the souls of the dead on a scale to see if they were Worthy or qualified to enter the afterlife. Anubis was also associated with embalming and mummification. He actually did this for Osiris before the latter stripped him of his position. I blame Anubis though. He gave Osiris the look befitting a god of the dead. Embalming him and all. Plus,we all know presentation is half the job requirement. No wonder Osiris got the job." Francis finished with a shake of his head. Everyone was silent.
"Wow...that sounded pretty interesting. I didn't know there were such interesting figures like these guys.", Joseph said. "Tsk..let me tell you about the most famous of all gods. The real gods who once ruled over all creation with Mount olympus as their home. Let me tell you about the Greek Gods." Kirk said with zeal and Ethan felt his heart skip a beat.
