Chapter 16 - CLASH OF TITANS

The time read 10:26 pm and he was the last person making his way out of one of his favorite places in all Mid-mount. A coffee shop that he had grown to fall in love with. He frequented this place so much that he had caught the owner's eyes which had earned him a special seat that was always free no matter the time of day.

He in return didn't disappoint as he always visited the place at least once a day to sip his coffee and watch the people that patronized the place.

It gave him great joy anytime he saw the people of this realm. Anytime they smiled, he felt like fighting another Pantheon war again just for their sake. The people of Mid-mount especially made him feel proud of his part in the Pantheon war thousands of years ago.

They were so peaceful and loving that he found himself becoming more attached to the place than he had ever been to any place he had visited. He didn't know if he'll even leave this place when his decade elapsed. Oh, who was he kidding?, Of course, he will leave. He had an important job as the eyes and ears of the other gods in the mortal realm and he intended to do his job to perfection. He had done well so far all these years and he would continue to after he left this place. After all, he was the one who volunteered himself due to his love for the mortals.

One other thing he was going to miss was his Job. When coming to this place, he had pondered over his career choice for a long time. Initially, he had thought of opening his own shop as a businessman but had quickly changed his mind and settled for being a small-time historian. He had chosen this particular field because it was the easiest for him.

Being who he was, and having experienced the passage of events from time immemorial, he was confident he was going to nail the role. This, he had. His chosen appearance of a semi bald middle-aged man also helped him greatly. Not forgetting his round owl spectacles. Soon, people had heard of him and he had made some few friends. Things had been smooth ever since then, not counting the last human war.

With these thoughts occupying his head, the man-made his way through the semi-deserted street. His house wasn't too far away from here and he couldn't wait to feel the softness of his mattress on his back as he retired for the day.

He had crossed the last street that led to his area when he saw something or someone jump at him from behind a street light. He had seen this person standing there earlier but had thought nothing of it. Now the person was attacking him. He sighed as he side-stepped the attack which missed him by many degrees.

He really wasn't in the mood to hurt anyone. He fished out his wallet and held it towards the attacker who was now on the floor, thrown over by his own momentum.

"Here, this is what you want, right? You can have it. Just let me walk in peace." He said as he threw the wallet to the now growling man, who slapped it away and jumped towards him again, his hands outstretched with his fingernails now long and sharpened like claws.

The first man's eyes widened as he saw the state of the man's nails. This time, as the growling man came at him, he stood his ground and dodged the first claw-like attack that was aimed at his face and which was coming down diagonally by moving the top part of his body backward, away from the attack.

A second claw-like attack followed the first one. This time coming from the side with the right side of his face as the target. He ducked under this attack and propelled his body the short distance it took to the attacker's side before driving his left shoulder into the attacker's stomach.

The man with the claw-like hands was thrown back about 5 feet from this simple attack. He lifted himself off the ground but immediately fell again to his knees as he coughed out blood.

The other man in the spectacles walked forward with his hands behind his back. "claw-like nails... growling. Blood-lust." This almost reminds me of....",

"HOOOOOOOWWWLLLL!!!"

The man froze in his steps. That howl. He knew that howl. No! It can't be! He must be mistaken. yes, It must be a normal wolf.

"Ugh...what happened here. My Insides are killing me!". The man in the spectacles was jerked out of his reverie by the now normal man who had attacked him earlier.

He looked at the man on the floor for a long time then turned and dashed towards the direction where the howl had come from. "Hey! Come back. You can't leave me like this. I'll sue you for assault. I know you!"

The man on the floor shouted after him but he paid him no heed. 'this can't be. I saw him banished to limbo. I have to see with my own eyes' he thought whiles running at top speed. He was careful not to use his real godlike speed though. He didn't want to attract any unwanted attention even though he doubted anyone would be able to see him if he decided to.

He wasn't called the fastest of the gods for nothing. Soon, he had come to a fork in the street. Up ahead to his right, he could see a car. He made his way to the car and the first thing he noticed was the blood on the street. He looked at the floor and saw that the blood had made a faint trail that went up ahead towards the direction of the town's high school. He quickly took off in that direction.

Three minutes later and he was standing by the side of the road overlooking the school. Up ahead in the direction of the woods he could feel great evil. As a protector, he had that intuition that allowed him to feel and spot evil over great distances.

He was standing here because he didn't know if he should go into the woods alone or call the other protectors. If it was who he thought it was, then he would be better off calling the others. Maybe in the past, before he had become this weak, he would stand a chance alone, but now he wasn't so sure.

'but I can't go to the others without proof too. The eldest would by all means zap my ass for disturbing them. I need to at least see if my guess is spot on first before I act.' he concluded. ' I'll just sneak my way into the woods and investigate. If it's him, I won't engage him. I'll quickly leave and call for backup', he thought as he sped his way towards the woods.

He slowed down as he got to the edge of the woods. The smell of evil was overpowering here in this place. Whoever it was that was giving off this vibe wasn't far away. He snuck his way slowly into the woods, making sure not to make any noise for fear of alerting whoever it was. He was making steady progress. He was now almost In the middle of the woods and was sure he was nearing his search when 'BANG!!!.'

He was lifted off his feet and sent flying far into the woods. Deeper and deeper, breaking multiple trees as he went. Finally, he felt his back hit the side of a cave which brought him to a painful halt. He was winded for a second as he freed himself from the side of the cave which had broken in.

The moment he landed on the floor he went to his knees again. He could feel the blood trying to escape his body through his mouth but refused to let it out. But alas, he couldn't hold it in anymore and he felt his body spasm as a bloody coughing fit took him.

He slowly made his way up after he was done coughing out the blood he had tried his hardest to hold in. Up ahead, he could feel whatever had attacked him coming. He knew he had said he wouldn't engage whatever was lurking in these woods but that was before he had been attacked and put in this position. Right now he had no option but to fight. It was his only way out. He knew whatever was out there was powerful, but he was no coward. He would stand and fight for his life.

Just as he thought this, a large man the size of a house stepped out of the woods with a large tree trunk trailing behind him which he was dragging easily with only one of his hands.

The large man had a wicked smirk on his face as he saw the state of the other man. Bloodied and awestruck.

"You!...you're the werewolf. The one we banished to limbo. The one my sister cursed!" the small man pointed out in shock.

"And the very same one who will send your head to her", the large man replied with all traces of an earlier smile gone from his face as he gripped his tree trunk tightly and dashed towards the now glowing protector.
