Inside the medium sized house that also doubled as Mid-mount's only shelter for homeless kids, 7 children, the oldest of which was only thirteen years old were huddled around a fire that was brilliantly lit in the chimney fireplace. Their faces flushed with fear and their smallish bodies trembled violently as if battling a deadly fever.
Hovering protectively over these children stood a slightly muscular boy whose whole attention seemed not to be on the children, but on something outside. This boy was of course Paul who was playing his part as the children's last defense against whatever was ailing the town.
