Chereads / A Cultivation Journey / Chapter 17 - Battle

Chapter 17 - Battle

Under the bright sunlight of noon, a few children were besieging a boy. The battle was astounding. The very space was trembling along side the collisions. Cracked earth and explosions were common sight...or so they hoped. It was indeed overwhelming to see small children raising weapons and fighting like a pro but special effects? Leave it to the truly strong ones. Even if these children cultivate to core formation, all they could do will be small flashes.

The boy was running while battling. He looked haggard but his calm expression tells otherwise. Suddenly a chaser sprinted forward and thrusted his spear hard. Hearing a sound of a wind howling coming rapidly from behind, the boy instinctively ducked down and rolled over. But that slowed him enough to be surrounded by six children. Among them, four were holding sword, one was holding a spear and another was barehanded. Seeing that he was surrounded, they began to rapidly attack him. The spear-holding boy advanced first and thrusted his spear from a low angle.

The boy was in a precarious situation but he didn't panic in slightest. He stepped sideways and narrowly dodged the spear. Suddenly he saw a fist coming. He wanted to block but his reaction speed could not keep up with the speed of the punch. The punch solidly landed in his chest. But then something surprising happened. He used the force of the punch to rapidly retreat backward and jumped towards nearby bushes.

The attackers were astounded. They cautiously went towards the bushes. Even before nearing it, the spear user raised his spear high and threw it like a javelin. They watched closely but nothing came out. The two sword wielders also slashed the bushes. But still, there was no movement from the bushes.

Finding that there was no one under the bushes they started searching the surrounding. After searching for a while, there was still no result. So, they had no choice but to give up. They sighed despondently and left in a group.

After a while, a boy climbed down from a tree in a heroic manner.

'Thank god! They are still children. If they were even a little more cautious and patient, they would have found me.'

'But still, why the hell are they forming groups in the early stage. They nearly removed me from this game. Still, the next time I travel, I should carry my weapon.'

Fu**-a-do****-do, those children. They are so blood-thirsty at such a young age!

No, I can't think of them as a child. Anyway, I am also a child. There should be no problem for me to fight back. Anyway, even if I slashed them with my glaive they won't die. Next time I will show them the power of my three years of maniac training.

...

Today is the fifth day of the game. I simply got bored and wanted to explore the island. So, today morning, I swam across the lake arriving officially at the island. But, who would have thought that I would be chased for a whole day? The recent chase was the fourteenth case I have suffered today.

These children are like mad dogs and they wield weapons like pros. I once tried to fight them. Unfortunately, I could only face four children at a time. Some of these children are too strong. It must be related to their talent.

I also battled against a mad-boy name Ye Feng. That guy was a maniac. He wouldn't even flinch while suffering from wounds and he got some insane stamina. I had no choice but to run away. It sucks to be scared of a child but I don't want to exchange wounds for wounds. It hurts, you know? I am also not any kind of masochist.

Toiling for a whole day I found that most of the children had already formed groups. These children are decisive and would fight anyone in sight. I couldn't even introduce myself properly. I only got to know that Ye Feng guy. And somehow, my mind is telling me that he is like one of those cruel and cold protagonist.

His name is obvious, he looks resolute, he has strong talent and he trades wounds for wounds. It is the appeal of some protagonist!

'Hmm, It should be nearly afternoon. Guess I should go back to my temporary home. Anyway, how come there are sunlight and moonlight but no sun and moon. This world has some disturbing things.'

'I should start honing my combat instincts from tomorrow onwards. I should become like 'unrivaled in the same realm' type. Yes, that sounds good.'

'Hmm, some dialogues should be necessary.'

'Yes! That's it.'

"If God comes, I will slaughter gods. If Buddha comes, I will kill Buddha...If Devil comes...I'll run?"

'Anyway, is there a Buddhist faction in this world? If not, then no problem. But if it is there then, I have to find out how it was established.'

...

'Can the cultivation world not exist without a battle?'

'Well, who cares? From today, I should also make battles more acceptable.'

I carried my glaive and went across the lake. After arriving at the island, I hid and started moving discreetly. For me, fighting other children is of no concern right now. Rather, I am searching for beasts. First, I would develop my instinct in a real battle scenario, then I would search for others to fight.

Walking for a while, I came across a blue tiger.

Seeing my first prey, I was speechless. How should I describe it? It seems, my fate is already being tied with tigers.

Then, I went forward. I didn't sneak attack or used some underhanded method. I wanted to fight this tiger upfront. The tiger saw me coming towards it so it got ready to lunge at its 'prey for the day.'

The unsuspecting tiger jumped with its claws outstretched. Seeing that the tiger jumped towards me, I hurriedly side-stepped rapidly to be out of its reach. Then, I became serious and stood in a defensive stance, holding the glaive by both hands in front of my chest.

The tiger seemed confused as to how its prey got away. So, it attacked again. I also did a clean sweep with the blunt side of the blade. The tiger's paw landed on the blade making it vibrate. I was pushed back some feet because of the force. This tiger was strong. Even with my top-level talent, my physical strength was still less than it.

Since I could not overpower it with strength, I resorted to my skills and mobility. The tiger may be pretty fast in a single-direction sprint, but fighting while moving around in a small area with that large body was simply impossible.

While maneuvering around it, I started slashing and hacking. I didn't thrust or use the pole of the glaive at all as it will do no real damage, instead, I might just give up my superior momentum and get bashed by the tiger.

The tiger's skin and muscles were thick. I would only be able to kill it by excessive wounds. But still, it was pretty hard. Even if the tiger had low mobility, it could still bump using its body. So, I had to move out of the tiger's range of attack now and then.

The battle went rather smoothly. After fighting for a while and sustaining some deep wounds, the tiger started to retreat.

As If I would let it do that?

I chased after it and kept slashing and hacking. Suddenly I found a chance. I rolled over below the tiger's stomach and thrust the glaive with all my strength. Somehow I seemed to have attacked a vital organ. The tiger released a low growl and slumped down dead injured pretty fast.

With much difficulty, I crawled out from below the tiger's body. I was covered in blood. I looked at my hand and the tiger. I was excited and somewhat scared at the same time.

Today I had my first life and death battle. The battle was a close one but still, I did it.

'I defeated the tiger.'

'Fair and square.'

After my excitement went down, I smelled blood, it smells super nauseating. After spitting some blood, I started searching for another prey. As for killing the tiger, not very interested. My cultivation technique stated that first kill matters.

I am pretty sure with the physique of beasts in this world, this tiger would be hunting again after few hours.

...

This time I was motivated. Battling with my life felt pretty addicting. Now I understand why all protagonists love to fight. It felt awesome.

After killing the tiger I might have got some confidence boost.

So, I ran around the island searching for my next sparring partner. This time I didn't simply fight other animals, I started to fight other children too. They were all like me. Even if their talent is weaker than mine, they could still put up a decent fight, after all they also went through some limit-breaking training in the past three years with no any distractions.

It may be because of my past life mindset. I simply don't like sustaining injuries. So, I had to use my mobility to the max to lessen the wounds.

But these children are different. They were taught to battle since childhood. Somehow, they also have better pain resistance. So, they don't care about some injury at all. For them, maybe this is the norm?

After fighting these children, I finally understood why there are uncivilized battle maniacs and arrogant characters in the cultivation world. It was because of the environment and it seems it has been going like this since the ancient period.

Somehow, it seems that no one had bothered to change this ancient mindset.
