Their answers to all my problems were here, just like the strange mage, Lilith, had said.
The answers lay in Dark Magic. Mana that was shaped by the deepest depths of oneself could push the boundaries of spellcasting by a hundredfold; there would be no need for perfectly pronounced incantations or specific poses and hand gestures.
This magic was a true reflection of oneself.
The books I read on Dark Magic did everything they could to paint it in a bad light. However the truth was clear to me; the Wizards who held power were simply afraid of ordinary mages rising above them.
What other reason would they have for outlawing such a pure expression of magic if not out of pride and jealousy?
The books of Silverstone’s library of course did not carry any instruction into the practice of Dark Magic, but that was not an issue. Before I left the Sanctum, Liltih had given me her very own grimoire; everything that I needed to know to truly get stronger using this form of magic.
