Mathew's POV
It was a nice surprise running into Danica at the restaurant, but something had been wrong. I had felt too relaxed but somewhat nervous leaving her behind. My mood darkened as I thought of Jenny and how she acted after leaving Danica. A small smile graced my lips and I chuckled then looked to the other two as we waited for the rest to gather. Maybe I was beginning to worry about Danica like Jenny did. I took a seat and looked over the rails to the floor below and saw the strangest thing. That fellow Oscar was carrying Danica. With a point and a wave I called Jeff over and he frowned as they vanished from view.
"That's odd." I nodded.
"Something was definitely not right." He nodded and took a seat as Shawn came over.
"What's not right?" I sighed.
"Danica... Was it me or did she seem like she was avoiding drawing attention to herself?" Jeff nodded.
"It was like she was spacing out most of the time… could have been the topic of conversation though. Or all the work the fight brought in." I nodded but that didn't sit right with me. Also, both Rodger and Oscar seemed very protective of her and their smell.
"Do… do you think she was fooling around with both Oscar and Rodger last night?" Jeff frowned as he leant back and thought.
"They're both full werewolves and that Oscar fellow gives off some strong vibes. I mean he could probably take you out without breaking a sweat." I frowned.
"That's rude." He held up his hands
"Ok a little sweat. If he forgot his strength with Danica he could have done something." Shawn shook his head.
"I don't want to hear this. Speculations get people in trouble." He shook his head. "Besides, she's a big girl she can handle two males attention." He heard his own words and his jaw dropped slightly and cheeks flushed. "Dam girl." We fell into an awkward silence. "Why did you automatically jump to a sex related injury?" I laughed and saw the colour on his cheeks.
"How else could she have been hurt? Fighting?" Shawn shrugged.
"When I collected my winnings there was a lot of angry people there." I nodded and another silence fell over us. After a few minutes Derick turned up with the boys. He looked around suspiciously at us as he sniffed.
"What… the… actual fuck… is going on here?" Jeff shifted his leg as he crossed them a little tighter.
"Nothing boss man." He looked to the bags. "Got everything you need?" Derick nodded and frowned as the boys began to climb on the benches.
"Careful you two don't fall." They giggled and nodded as they began to act out a fight they had concocted in their heads. I let a sigh leave my lips and really wished Jenny had been here.
The drive back to the pack house felt long. My mind raced with a million questions and I worried about Danica. Something had definitely been wrong, and honestly I didn't think it was sex related. Dean had offered to stay behind in the city to look after her, but Derick seemed to think otherwise as Oscar was with her. He had already met him before and told me about the goat head incident. To be honest it sounded tasty, and my wolf really wanted to try it.
Finally, we pulled into the garage and unloaded the cars. Derick seemed a little down too and had said only a few words. I walked inside and Jenny smiled warmly at us as she carried Maggy.
"How was it? You sounded really hyped about the match." I nodded and went to the alpha's office out of habit.
"Oh, I have a story to tell you." I smirked. "And Danica seems to be the busy girl." I saw Derick perk up at the mention of her. We entered the office and I grabbed the papers that had piled up on the desk and skimmed through them then handed the ones I had finished with over to Derick.
"Not much happened while you were away. There was a rogue attack, but they didn't get past the border guards."
"Injuries?" Derick asked.
"Only minor ones." She placed Maggy into her play pen in the office then looked around as Lilly ran in with Kaden and Aden hot on her heels.
Derick grunted as he looked to the reports, we exchanged glances.
"There seems to be movement at the Canyons…" I nodded and he took a breath. "I'll warn the pack to be careful when out on the Pack run this fool moon." I nodded again and finished the reports.
"Definitely, are you going to invite Lisa on this run?" He nodded.
"She likes to let her wolf out and let lose." I nodded.
"You still need to talk to Lisa about this mate bond problem." He winced.
"Lisa will kill the other if she finds out." Jenny narrowed her eyes and he held up his hands. "I'll just keep my distance and see what the doc says… when am I going?" Jenny nodded in approvement.
"I've got an appointment for Monday. You just need to bring Lisa along… Or at least one of them then the other." He nodded and sighed.
"How will I explain this?" he shook his head. I grinned.
"Simple, tell them you have a problem with your head and you need them to check you out. Lisa will buy that and go as the dutiful girlfriend she is." I frowned.
"But that won't work on… the other one" I shrugged.
"I'll think of something with her." Jenny narrowed her eyes at me wanting to ask her question but keeping quiet.
"Jessica has also come home." I looked up. Her words struck a nerve and my chest felt tight.
Danica's POV
I awoke and looked around. Oscar had been sleeping next to me and like he frequently did he had shifted in his sleep. He was one of those werewolves that had trouble controlling his wolf at times and often the shift would take him in his sleep. His wolf Roe was adorable though, especially to the people he liked. He was like a giant lap dog with slick fur and a long sleek nearly feline body and would lick for attention, that being said, he was a monster in a fight with the sharpest claws I had ever seen on a wolf. Sometimes I questioned whether he had part werecat in him. If he did he had used up two lives already.
I looked to my watch and blinked in surprise. It was five in the afternoon. I had slept soundly for three and a half hours. Oscar moved in his sleep his large muzzle sliding inside my t-shirt and his wet nose brushing against my back. I squirmed slightly then felt his hot tongue on my back as he began to lick me slowly in his sleep. With a grunt I sat up feeling a little better than I had at lunch time. Slowly with a little hesitation I made my way across the office to the bathroom.
Just trying to sit down on the toilet brought tears to my eyes but in the end, I managed it. Now that I was done I had to find the strength to get up. I was going to have to face the inevitable and ask for help.
'Fuck…' I had been able to do this for years without help, now just pulling my knickers and shorts up was going to leave me screaming.
'Rodger…'
'Yeah babe, what's up?' I sighed.
'I need some help and Oscar is sound asleep.' He chuckled in my head.
'Sure thing. What do you need help with?' I hesitated, 'Toots, you ok?' I sighed again.
'I need help standing up from the toilet.' There was no response in my head just the sound of the door to the back office opening and someone by the bathroom door. It swung open slowly and Rodger came in. He kept his face deadpan as he came over and wrapped his arms around my chest and lifted me. I winced and took a sharp breath. Once he was sure I was standing safely and wasn't going to fall over he knelt down and pulled my clothes up. I placed a hand to his shoulder to steady myself and he glanced up.
"You all right? Not going to fall over are you?" I shook my head.
"Can't promise that." He shrugged.
"Well you're looking better then you did this morning." He stood up after fastening my shorts. By tomorrow all those small bruises should be healed. I nodded.
"Yeah, just need to sleep… and get over this muscle pain and exhaustion… did you find out if anything was taken from your office?" He grinned,
"Nothing was taken. All my valuable stuff isn't kept on sight… and the heart isn't here either." I gave him a look.
"What?"
"This was a hit from Vox… yes his office was trashed too to avoid suspicion but I can smell a vampire even when they use that crap to conceal there movements." I nodded and gave him my knowing look and he chuckled. "That and I have camera footage." He grinned then scooped me up carefully and took me back to the office placing me on the sofa. "I'll get dinner sorted." He helped me to lay down and wrapped a blanket over me. "Once the side effects of the regeneration potion fades you'll be back up and running." I sighed.
"I forgot how much that stuff fucks you up afterwards." He nodded.
"It's for life and death situations. We were all worried you'd kick it and with the volume of injuries you had…" He trailed off then kissed my head softly. He stood up not willing to finish that thought and I watched as he straightened out a few things then left the back office. I grabbed my phone and began to answer the messages that were building up. Once I was done I lay my head on the pillow and fell asleep.
