I looked around. The room was still dark and the cold of the mud was seeping into my bones. With a shudder I got up and felt Oscar move his arm off my waist to his side.
"How long were we…?"
"Busy?" He grinned. "I'd say about four hours. Then you slept for two…" I lay back down placing my head on his chest and he sighed happily. "Are you feeling better?" I shrugged.
"No clue…" he nodded.
"But you have come to accept what you are?" I shrugged and flicked his nipple causing him to grunt.
"Stop asking questions." He smirked and wrapped his arm around me.
"Well, I'm hungry and know where there's food. I kind of need to ask more questions to know how to continue with this conversation." I rolled my eyes.
"Yes I'm hungry… and yes lets go get something to eat… Although we need some clothes…" He giggled and handed me my shorts.
"These are still wearable…" I sat up then pulled them on. As I stood I tied the tattered remains of my t-shirt at the front and he nodded. "Very retro." He looked around and shrugged. "Looks like I'm going to be naked." He smirked then followed me up the ladder.
Outside the stuffiness of the hide out fell away and the fresh crisp evening air was a relief. I slipped aside as Oscar jumped out and put the lid over the ladders. He gave me a final kiss before turning into his wolf and walked at my side.
We wondered towards the alley way where the clinic was then turned and went to a small apartment building. Oscar pushed the entry door open with his shoulder and sauntered inside then up the stairs. We climbed to the fourth floor and he transformed back to human and reached up to above the door frame. He ran his fingers around then pulled down a key and opened the door. As we went inside he replaced the key into the hiding spot then wandered to his room.
"I'll grab some clothes and we can head out." I nodded and saw myself in the mirror. There was mud all over my skin and my hair was a mess.
"Can we meet up?" He looked out from his room and frowned.
"Everything ok?" I pointed.
"I need to head home and get washed up." He grinned.
"Oh…" He looked in a mirror and smiled. "Yeah be a good idea." He grinned. "So you want to mind link me when you're ready?" I nodded.
"Yeah sure. But you could just come up to mine once you have finished here." I won't be that long. He nodded and grinned.
"Definitely, but we might not get out of there." He gave me a wink as I waved him goodbye and left.
Once in my apartment I showered and frowned at all the twigs, leaves and mud that came out of my hair. I didn't know how but it seemed like a bucket of trash had washed off me. I finished with the shower then dried and dressed quickly. As I walked out into the living room, I heard someone clear their throat. I looked up as Gilbert stood with his arms crossed over his chest.
"I came around earlier. Your friend Jenny was looking for you." He sighed. "Something about you not having your phone on." I looked around and pulled my phone from my dirty shorts pocket and remembered I had turned it off.
"Oh crap…" He shrugged.
"You also left washing in your machine. I rewashed it and hung it out for you but really, I would expect this behavior from a kid." He smirked then looked around as Oscar came in. "Still the same old crowd…" He shook his head." You better be treating her right boy." Oscar nodded and stepped aside.
"Yes sir." Gilbert nodded but said nothing more as he left. I turned my phone on and grabbed my battery pack as I gave it a quick charge.
"Come on, we…" I didn't get to finish my words when dozens of missed call notifications popped up on my screen with a ton of messages from Jenny, Bella, Mathew and Rodger.
"Looks like you're popular tonight…" I rolled my eyes.
"I'll start with messaging Bella." He nodded as we left the apartment and headed to the elevator. I had almost finished sending my messages when my phone began to ring.
"Hi Jenny,"
"Don't hi Jenny me! What the hell? You had your phone off what happened?" Oscar took my phone.
"Sorry about that, my bad. I kept her busy all day and her phone died."
"Who's this?" I took the phone back and he grinned.
"A friend of mine. Oscar." He grinned.
"Danica… I was worried sick that something happened to you… and now Derick has vanished, he's last message was he's in the city." I frowned.
"Why's he here?" She let out a sigh.
"Looking for you. Look here's his number tell him you're ok and just get back here." I sighed.
"I was going to stay in the city until Saturday. I know last minute, but there are some things I still need to take care of."
"Fine but please keep your phone on this time." I nodded.
"I will and don't worry. I'm not alone." She let a snort leave her lips.
"That I am aware of." She hung up and I looked to the number she texted me.
"So… Derick…" I looked to Oscar. "Who's Derick?" I shrugged.
"The alpha of the Swift Runners." He frowned.
"And you two get along fine?" I shrugged.
"He's here looking for me… not sure why, I get on better with his kids than with him." Oscar nodded and shrugged.
"Well just be careful. He'll be harder to handle than other werewolves since he's an Alpha too." I nodded and texted the number. Almost immediately after my message was sent my phone began to ring. I looked to Oscar and he sighed. "Better answer it…" I pulled the phone to my ear.
"I heard you're in the city looking for me. Don't worry I'm fine." There came a growl.
"That's good to hear. Do you know what Jenny would do if something had happened to you?" I nodded slightly.
"Yeah, look I'm with a friend. We're going to get something to eat." I looked at Oscar.
'Room for one more?' he nodded.
"We're going to a little Jamaican restaurant on the north side of the city. Rolland street. It's called Mamma's. You're more than welcome to meet us there. My treat since I made you worry." I heard a sigh and what sounded like a yes then the phone went dead.
"So, was that a yes?" I shrugged and looked around as we left the building and began to head in the direction of the restaurant.
