Bam! Bam!
"We're police. Please open your door."
Bam! Bam!
Mia was awake due to the loud bangs on the door. Today she had woken up in shock twice.
Nobody opened the door because the old lady who cooked her dinner already gotten off from work. The police kept on banging the door until Mia scurried to the front door. Mia peeped through the hole and saw two police officers stood at the doorway. She obviously baffled by the presence of these police. She opened the door and showed up in a drowsy face.
"Ms Mia?" asked one of the police.
"Yes that's me."
"Can we talk to you for few seconds?"
"Err right now?" Mia became more confused. Why would these officers want to talk to her at this hour? It was 10pm and a bit late for police officers to drop by to anyone's house unless there was something urgent happened.
The two polices firmly nodded their head and no choice, Mia moved aside and gave a way to the polices to come in. They then went to the living room and took seats there. One of the police went around and was checking out the house while the other officer stayed behind to ask few questions to Mia.
"What's this all about?" Mia got nervous and couldn't help but to throw the question first.
"Is Mdm Myra your sister?"
"Uh she is but we haven't kept in touch for so long," said Mia as she frowned. Mia had not heard about her sister after the incident 5 years ago and neither did she go around trying to find out whatever her sister was doing.
Sensing the distant relationship between these two sisters, Mia could be the potential suspect so the officer decided it was appropriate to find out any possible motives. Thus he directly probed into the matter, "Why so? Between you two have conflicts?"
"Yeahhh you can say it like that. It was very personal but she was the one that decided to cut ties with me. Afterwards I moved to East City and didn't make contact with her. Did something happen to her?" Mia reluctantly explained the conflict between them. Out of habit, Mia licked her dry lips as she spoke.
"So you didn't know that your sister is also here?"
"Uh what?? I don't. I truly don't know." Mia stammered as she didn't expect that at all. The thought of she might bump into her sister in this town excited her but at the same time she was nervous.
"So where were you between 12 noon to 5pm?"
"I touched down at the airport around 3pm then took taxi to here for 2 hours. If you can find out my whereabouts here then you must already knew that I flew here for my business work."
It was much convenient to stay at homestay than at hotels since Mia would be staying at this little town for a month. She also needed maid to help out with her daily meals and cleaning. So it was easier to rent out homestay so that the maid could come and go at her request.
"So you are not aware of your sister getting attacked at Pixels Hotel around 2-3pn today?"
Mia widened her eyes in shock and bombarded the police with multiple questions at once. "What? She was attacked? Why? How? and is she alright?"
"Mdm Myra is still hospitalised as we speak right now."
"Uh thank God!" Mia let out a sigh of relief.
"Alright Ms Mia. Thank you for your cooperation. Please keep your phone with you so that we can contact you anytime in case we need more details."
"Sure sure but can I know who's the attacker or why my sister got attacked?"
"Sorry Ms Mia. I can't disclose that for now because we're still investigating the case."
Then the police officers excuses themselves and left Mia alone with that shocking news.
Although Mia's relationship with her sister wasn't good, Mia would still be concerned if something like this happened to her sister. She couldn't stop worrying and many thoughts came into her mind. That night she was sleepless. She must go and visit her sister at the hospital.
When the next morning rolled around, Mia quickly got ready, skipped her breakfast, called an uber and headed to the nearest hospital. Last night she googled out the area and it turned out that this little town which went by the name of Dreamy Valley only had one hospital which was at the centre of the town. Pixels Hotel also was in the same area so it was likely for her sister to receive treatment there.
It was 8 am and the town was slightly busy with people going to work and the shops just started operating. The road was congested so it will take longer time to reach the hospital. Mia was hungry since her last meal was at 6pm yesterday but she didn't have the appetite to eat breakfast.
Ding! A text flashed on Mia's phone screen. It was from the maid she hired. The maid sent her message to inform that she had received the note that Mia left on the dining table. Mia probably won't be back home until dinner's time.
After almost half an hour getting stuck in the traffic jam, finally Mia arrived at the hospital. She paid cash to the driver and dashed to the receptionist to ask about yesterday's attack case at the Pixels Hotel.
"Hey can you please check the patient's name , Myra Charles or Myra Larry. Larry is her husband's name. Did she check in this hospital yesterday?"
"May I know who you are and your relationship with the patient?"
"I'm her sister, Mia Charles. This is my identification card." Mia hastily took the card out of her purse and showed it to the nurse.
"Alright. Myra Larry was admitted yesterday evening and she's at the VVIP ward. But you can't enter without Mr Larry's permission. You need to call Mr. Larry first then he will send the bodyguards down to take you there."
"Uh?? But..but I don't have his contact number. Is there any way that you can contact the patient and tell her that her sister's here. She will let me in if she knows I'm here."
Mia was betting her life on the line. She hoped that five years were enough to cool down her sister's anger. They used to be very close to each other so her sister might probably want to see her if she knows that Mia had dropped by.
The nurse politely turned down Mia's request, "I'm sorry. I couldn't help you. The supervision at the VVIP ward is very strict. Only the nurses and doctors assigned to that ward can have access to that level. Maybe you can wait here at the lounge. Who knows that you might bump into Mr Larry if you're lucky."
Hearing that Mia was disappointed. But at least she knew where her sister was right now.
"If it's like that, at least can you tell me her condition right now?"asked Mia with full of hope that the nurse could provide her with this important news. Her eyes were glistening as she pleaded.
The nurse shook her head. She was actually feeling guilty for not being able to help Mia.
"Sorry. We also don't have access to the VVIP patients report."
Mia gave a faint smile to the nurse and politely thanked her. She then walked to the lounge nearby the receptionist desk and sat at one of the sofas facing the entrance door. If she was indeed fortunate, Larry would be entering the hospital through that main entrance and Mia would be able to see him.
Since Mia had yet to eat anything, her stomach grumbled on top of she felt lethargic due to her not sleeping well last night. But if she took a nap or went to get a breakfast, she might miss out seeing Larry so Mia decided to stay put there.
Half an hour passed by and the lobby started to get crowded with many visitors and patients coming in and out. But there was no sight of Larry. Mia was getting impatient and anxious. She fiddled with the hem of her blouse as she kept staring at the entrance.
Her stomach started to growl in protest. It was almost one hour waiting and Mia needed to start working soon. She didn't have the luxury to wait here all day. Well, at first she didn't think that it would be this hard to meet her own sister. Probably this was the sign. They were not fated, yet, to meet each other again even after five years. Honestly she truly missed her older sister, Myra so much so Mia thought this would be the opportunity to reconcile with her sister but sadly it won't be happening.
Mia let out a heavy sigh, got up from the seat and hesitantly walked out from the hospital. Her trip here was wasted. Mia then hailed a taxi then gave her next destination to the driver. The taxi drove out of the hospital around the same time a black premium car which Larry was in, entered the hospital gate.
