Chapter 328 - Quality 3 Companies

"The knocking grew faster, more intense, and even began to sound like banging!

Steve didn't know if anyone was coming to stop it, but now was not the time to worry about that.

He wouldn't even think ordinary people could make the Umbrella employees stop banging on the door.

Steve couldn't be sure if there were other Umbrella personnel elsewhere, and he couldn't even be certain if the others were Umbrella employees.

But considering what he had thought before, this was the most reasonable development.

Covering the broken bedboard haphazardly, Steve opened the window and looked down. He swallowed hard; he had a slight fear of heights, and this height was making his calves tremble.

Even though he knew he had quite strong physical fitness, he wouldn't dare to use it! He now regretted not learning parkour or something similar in the past.

A graceful roll upon landing, how cool would that be?

But now he couldn't do anything!

The banging on the door grew more intense, and the wall next to the security door had begun to crumble. It looked like the intruders were about to break in!

"Damn it!"

Steve gritted his teeth and leapt across, landing on the opposite air conditioner!

He stretched out his hand with all his might to close the window securely.

Glancing around, the height below made him dizzy.

He exerted force in his body, and his powerful jumping ability allowed him to grab the upper windowsill directly!

However, there was a bit more dust up there, and even with his great strength, he couldn't stop the feeling of almost slipping.

With his waist and fingers exerting force, he instantly clung to the lower railing of the air conditioner.

Perhaps due to long neglect, the air conditioner's nails were deeply embedded in the wall.

"Click~"

The steel was slightly crooked on the wall. Steve estimated that this thing would fall to the ground after a few more movements up and down.

He didn't know who it would fall on but hoped it wouldn't be him.

Steve found that no matter where he exerted force on his body, he could fully control it. This alone was enough to outclass those ordinary humans who had trained for years.

"Clang!—"

His more sensitive ears heard that sound, and there was no need to think about it. He knew that those two bastards had broken into his beloved home.

Once again, he summoned all his strength, like Tarzan, with one big swing he hooked onto the iron frame of the other air conditioner.

Fortunately, this one had good quality. At least there was no sign of the steel about to break.

Steve looked back, and that air conditioner in the house gave the feeling that it could fall at any moment.

But what did he care?

With a determined effort, he hung under the air conditioner like a bat, and Steve saw the appearance of those two.

Fortunately, they didn't see him.

If they found and caught him, they might do some strange experiments on him, as his damaged memories had suggested, right?

Laboratory, isolation suits, excruciating pain, rolling on the floor.

Every image could prove that the newcomers could have been more friendly.

Maybe all his strength had been given to him by the other side.

But the thought of someone cutting into his body for experiments sent shivers down his spine.

From his room came voices; in Steve's view, those two were no different from robbers. Isn't personal property sacred and inviolable in the United States?

The voices slowly faded as the two seemed to have left, and Steve breathed a sigh of relief. He only realised that he had been under the air conditioner for about five minutes.

He still had strength, and he was even quite comfortable. This was the first time he realised how powerful he was.

With newfound confidence and bolder actions, he quickly reached the rooftop.

Taking a deep breath, his heart still hadn't calmed down, and suddenly, the hair on his back stood on end!

Steve, belatedly, turned to look, and his retinas only reflected the bullet ejected from the barrel.

"Bang!"

Steve took a step back, clutching his neck with his hand.

Blood was flowing, not too much, but Steve had a bad feeling.

He had crouched down, and something seemed to have fallen to the ground.

He wanted to crawl out of the rooftop, but his vision gradually blurred, and Steve realised he had been hit by a tranquillizer dart.

"Harris, you've caught Survivor No. 1 this time, right?"

A normal electrical noise flashed in the earpiece, and Harris took off the earpiece and rubbed his ear. He would have reported to the director for an equipment update if his rank were high enough.

"Hey, kid, you've got to trust my skills! I'm a hundred per cent sure I hit him; this dose could easily tranquillise an elephant!"

"Oh! Damn it! We haven't yet measured Survivor No. 1's tolerance; you can't..."

"Stop, stop, stop! I just got transferred from over there. Please say something nice to me; I don't want to return to Survivor No. 3."

The person on the other end of the earpiece smiled wryly. "All right, I'm going up to check, Harris. You keep alert. If you encounter 'others,' don't hold back!"

"Rest assured! Leave it to me!"

The young man's voice was quite confident, which made him sigh and start dashing towards the rooftop.

Steve's mind was filled with images: laboratories, lab coats, and a continuous cycle of sedatives as if they were trying to muddle his mind!

He opened his eyes, staring at an unfamiliar ceiling.

Steve was still groggy, and memories flooded back like a tide.

He had no strength and didn't know what Umbrella had done to him with their gadgets, but it wasn't good.

The ceiling lights seemed to be blinding his eyes; his current state was like when he had a fever of 104 degrees in his previous life, lying in bed feeling miserable.

Very uncomfortable.

He didn't even want to think about it.

"Am I the most failed time traveller? So embarrassing."

"I got caught in less than twenty-four hours, and those bastards injected some indescribable stuff into my body!"

He was resentful, but Steve also knew that protagonists had to go through hardships, but he didn't necessarily have to.

He didn't necessarily have to, and there was no certainty. What's wrong with fantasising a little?

His brain felt warm, Steve felt like the ceiling lights had split into two, and his mind was hazy. Finally, he fell into a deep sleep.

He didn't know how much time had passed here, and no one else was here besides him. But he had no strength at all, and he didn't want to move recklessly.

How long had it been? One day? Two days? Or just a few hours?

The white surroundings were everywhere, almost driving him crazy!

Even though he didn't have the strength to go mad now.

He closed his eyes and opened them; his pupils contracted!

"Oh my god! Who are you?!"

Steve could muster a bit of strength now, though he was still weaker than average. But at least it made him feel less uncomfortable.

The one-eyed man with the black bald head and the black trench coat in front of him reminded Steve of a character from a movie.

"I think we can talk."

"No listening! Slow down! Goodbye!"
