I wave goodbye to my friends and get into my car. Another boring day at school. I drive home and change out of my school clothes. I do my homework, lay on my bed, and start listening to music. I sigh and think about my uneventful life.
I close my eyes and continue to sing the song. The song finishes and my playlist continues. I open my eyes to change the song and see an old man dressed in an all-black suit staring down at me.
My eyes widen and I open my mouth to scream.
Before I could let out a sound a hand covers my mouth. My scream becomes muffled, and I start kicking my legs up and down. "Would you calm down?" the old man said. His irritation was clear, but I could give two flying fucks about how he felt.
He was in my house without consent at that.
With his figure so close I could examine his features. He had pepper hair, some black, some gray. He had beautiful blue eyes and was extremely buff. I could see the tattoo starting from his neck and disappearing to his chest which was revealed by the bit of cleavage his white shirt provided.
He was a good-looking man. A good-looking man that was starting to get on my nerves with his next comment. "Women are so easily spooked. If I take my hand off your mouth, do you promise not to scream?"
I stop flailing and nod my head. My eyes were still wide. He slowly removed his hand from my mouth. The moment his hand was gone I let out an ear-piercing scream. He quickly placed his hand over my mouth again.
"God dammit! Would you stop!" he growled. Literally growled. I had no intention of continuing my screeching, but that shut me up for good. After a minute he released me again. I did not scream this time. I look at him with a shaky body.
"Who are you and what are you doing in my house?" I push back into my bed as if it could protect me from the six-foot man in front of me.
"I just had to be the one to get this job. It would be much easier if I just showed you. You wouldn't believe me if I told you." this man must have a few screws loose if he thought I was going anywhere with him.
"You're going to have to tell me because there is no way in hell, I am going to follow you." He gave me a smirk. "Feisty. Annoying but a good trait to have in this world." I look at him expectantly. I don't care why he is here, I just wanted him to go.
"You're supernatural. I have been sent to take you to Paranormal Academy. A place where supernatural creatures go to school to hone their abilities. We don't know what you are yet, but you have been giving off waves of magic. I am here to take you to the academy where we can monitor you."
He was right, I didn't believe the shit he was saying and quite frankly I found him crazy. Paranormal Academy? Magic? Supernatural creatures? This sounded insane!
I'm sure the look I was currently giving him showed my thoughts. I had a bad habit of revealing my true emotions on my face despite my words. "Okay, let's go to this academy and fly around with unicorns. Maybe even meet a leprechaun on the way. Then we can dance in a field with fairies and get high on lucky charms."
The old man cracked a smile. "Ridiculous. Leprechauns don't exist." I was starting to think this man had a tumor. "You can either come with me or I can knock you unconscious and take you there by force." Something told me he was deadass.
"You can't do that. I have questions and will be going nowhere until they're answered." I cross my arms. The old man sighs and sits on the chair near my desk. "I've got time. What do you want to know?" I didn't expect him to cooperate. Well, now I had to think of questions, which wasn't hard since I did have a lot of them.
"How did you find me?" His answer was instant.
"The waves of magic you've been giving off. Masses of it, it wasn't hard." He shrugs his shoulders.
"How did you get into my house?"
"Teleportation. You'll see what I'm talking about later into the year." Don't ask, I told myself.
"What makes you think I am the one giving off these 'waves of magic'?"
"You're always at the center of the magic. Wherever you are, the magic is. You've been watched for a long time. There is no doubt that you are the one doing it." I tried not to let that fact disturb me.
"Am I giving off magic waves right now?"
"No."
"Where is the Academy?"
"Another realm." This gets better and better.
"Let's say I do go with you-" he cuts me off. "You don't have a choice." Ignoring him, I continue. "I'm supposed to throw my current life in the garbage? My scholarships, my friends, my job? In hopes that this magical school works out?"
He gives a heavy sigh. "Yes. The academy will make an excuse for your disappearance. You can pack some of your clothes if you want. The school provides uniforms so you won't need a lot." he couldn't be serious. But he was. I knew he was, and I could either do this the easy or hard way. What do I have to lose? My life is all.
"Can I at least tell my friends goodbye?" he shook his head. "Send a text. I've already wasted enough time. Pack your clothes and we're leaving in ten." His power must be the ability to turn into a jackass on a whim. He is probably the kind of person who breaks up with his girlfriend over text. I roll my eyes and start packing my bag. It was best I didn't tell my friends anything. It would be hard to explain this situation. I can't explain something I don't know and right now I have no idea what was happening.
After packing some clothes, underwear, and cleaning products, I turned to the man. "One more question. What is your name?"
"Derek." Without another look, he opened a portal. I looked at it in awe. I went behind it but there was nothing there. Just swirls of blue. "I'm not going in that," I say while pointing at the thing with wide eyes.
He rolls his eyes and walks toward me. Before I could process what was happening, he had already pushed me into the portal. Asshole.
