"So what are you two going to do now? The auction is supposedly starting back up again tomorrow night and you both are aiming for a copy or two of greed island… It would be a good experience for the two of you." lounging in some of the office chairs in the private room we began to discuss the recent news concerning the auction. It was around midday by now as we lazed around and slept in after the hectic events of last night.
"We still don't have much money… and now that I think about it we didn't bring any of the bodies back to earn the bounties! How are we supposed to win the copies?" stunned by the sudden outburst for a moment, the easygoing mood in the room abruptly stopped as everyone stared into space realizing their error.
"I would rather have the bodies out of sight than the money, every single Jenny we would receive would just be a target on our backs from the troupe. Though I think it will be an uphill battle trying to win it in the auction. From the rumors I have been hearing about the auction was there was one party buying up all copies of Greed Island…" Getting up from the chair, I went to retrieve my laptop from my luggage before returning to the meeting room we were situated in.
"I haven't looked much into it but… for whatever reason whoever this is buying up copies seems vaguely familiar?" typing away at the computer and clicking through various articles and forms as a vague sense of familiarity burned away at my patience. All the while, everyone else was using the time to count their winnings from the arm wrestling. Currently, it was in a small tin box as they sorted out the various bills and coins while tallying their earnings.
'So he has been buying up copies of greed island for the past while and offering positions to strong Hunters to play the game… this must be some part of the plot I didn't care much about and forgot since the years I last watched the anime.' Closing up the laptop, I looked on in slight amusement as the simple task of counting money was… happening?
"I said stop counting aloud! This is the third time I lost count already!" slamming his fist on the table scattering numerous stacks of coins across the floor, Leorio stood up as he exaggeratedly pointed down at Killua who stared back at him with a neutral expression.
"Then learn to count properly… Aren't you trying to become a doctor? At least get a high school diploma first, for your sake of course." setting down another organized stack of bills on the table before reaching back into the tin to grab another handful of currency he continued to ignore Leorio.
"I may have found a way for us to avoid this? From what I can tell the rumors I heard were true, some rich asshole is buying up all the copies of greed island. Somehow he isn't dead after the troupe massacred the place like Khornate berserkers…*cough* well, that's mostly because he sent a representative that night. Anyways, he has been doing this for a while and is bringing on strong Hunters to play the game for him in the past and with copies for sale there will be some spots you could aim for." Tapping the table idly as I ran through a cost-benefit analysis of abandoning the auction house while everyone else thought about what I said for a moment.
"Hmm… But only as a backup! I would rather not rely on rumors and It would be better if we could secure our own copies." Taking the initiative Gon decided to put forward his verdict, and it was a pleasant surprise to hear his reasoning.
"Huh, I would have thought you'd say something stupid like 'this is my journey so I must secure my own copy!' did you finally start using your head for something?" Getting up from my chair and relocating to one near the box of money I began helping them sort out their money situation.
'Money has been weird here… I would have thought it would be similar to Yen where a dollar roughly equaled 100 yen or Jenny in this case… but while it was similar it was closer to ten Jenny equalling a dollar. Or at least from what I can tell…' setting aside another stack of paper bills while tuning out Gon's frustrated whining I moved on to the coins.
"So I guess we are going to stay here for the remainder of the auction then… If so we need to prepare for what's coming. I am sure you all know this to some extent, especially Kurapika but the Spiders are going to retaliate hard. When I was captured talks of such were going on when they only captured one of their members so I cannot imagine what the death of two members would do." Interjecting this time was Killua who laid bare the unsaid event we all knew was coming but didn't want to consider.
*sigh* I mean yeah… that's why I wanted to dip out of the city before things go to shit. But if we are staying then we can use the rest of today to prepare for things to come. Though before that, Leorio can you pick up all the fucking coins you spilled you absolute monkey!" catalouging the various supplies and items I need to stock up on for tomorrow and reminding myself to change the bandages on my hand I left the meeting room.
