' Good afternoon brother '. She greeted him when he rose and turned to her. ' Thought to bring you food and go to mommy's stall '. She explained handing the bag to him.
Edward took the bag from her, standing tall with his 5.6ft frame, ranked in height below her chin level. His younger sister who always the tall one amongst them.
' And what is Mommy selling today? The vegetable seller traveled '. Edward inquired as he uncovered the plate to take a glimpse of the meal. The steam beat at his face.
' She is thinking of selling dry fishes at the market and the tubers you are harvesting at the stall '.
Edward only nodded as he dug into the bag and retrieved the spoon. Soon he was sitting on a nearby rock and eating. His sister sat under the shade of a tree looking at him first before gazing at the sky.
Edward finished and handed her the flask.
' Rest a little to let the food digest '. She pleaded when she saw him going back to his work under the scorching sun. His upper bare body popped sweat and his taut muscles worked as he dug to harvest
' No time to rest sis '. Edward prompted and moved to continue. Olivia took the bag and kept it under the tree.
' What of the tubers? '
' I will be bringing them to the stall '.
'Ok, then. See you later '.
The farmland was filled with silence again except for the buzzing of bees far away and the sound of the hoe digging.
Following her departure from the land, Olivia went straight to the market. Her hazel eyes, perfect pair, looked at the world around her. The way to the market was filled with people of different categories, buyers and sellers alike stood crowding the public place. Olivia could hardly see a path to pass but through the people, she created a way to her mother's store that sat between two stores to the left and two to the right. And at the time she came to her mother she was attending to a customer.
' What of your brother? ' She asked after the customer had gone.
Dropping the bag to the side, she entered the store to sit in the space provided by her mother.
' Brother is very fine. He's almost done with a basket. How have the sales been? '. To the money she saw on the floor, she picked it up and handed it to her mother who was counting a bulk of money. ' Mm... Mommy, I wanted to ask you for a favor '. Olivia informed with her palms sweaty and her eyes pleading.
Her mother rose her head to look at her daughter with concern in her eyes. Her thumb pressed at where she had paused. ' What is it? '. Seeing her daughter fidgeting made her more anxious.
' Mommy, it's a little of a favor, but first, you will have to promise me that you will fulfill it. Please Mommy '. Her hands came together to give her the most pleading look.
' I can't promise you that my dear when I don't know what you are planning to ask me. I don't want to make promises my dear, that I cannot keep '.
' Please mommy, I know you can keep it. It's a very simple something. Please Mommy '.
' What's it, Olivia? Just tell me '.
For a few seconds, Olivia sat immobile. She did fear that her mother might refuse her request and to her, it was the dearest and most important thing in her life at the moment.
' Mommy, first promise me you will keep it '.
The woman looked at her before conceding.
' I promise. What is it that you want to tell me? '.
