Fred was immersed in his work. Piles upon piles of paperwork clustered on his table. The pen danced on the sheets before him. His PA, David, stood at the side to pick up the ones he was done with. The works had compiled over time, mostly during the time he spent with his Uncle and his cousin.
He signed another batch of paper and pushed it aside, leaving it for David to do justice with it. Fred was reaching out to the top of another batch when the telephone rang on the table. He answered it with urgency, ready to get back to signing.
The world screeched to a halt when heard a male voice in the background. It was his father and he was downstairs in the reception. His commanding tone became louder in his ear and for once, his PA noticed his tight squeeze on the pen. One more squeeze and the pen would be snapped in the middle. His face weighted with worry as his boss looked straight at the door with blankness.
' Call the security personnel to send him out '. Just a day after his brother's death and he comes barking. The coldness in his voice stiffened David.
He knew his boss' father was still alive but Fred's love and concern for him were dead as a stone. He did not know why he would hate his father so much. His boss was dark with secrets. Things were left unturned and no matter how curious he was he never dared to look into his life.
' Arrest him then. Don't let him cross the corridor. If he refuses to go, let him be taken into custody '. Fred's voice thundered in the office.
Hastily, he placed the telephone down on the pad and tugged at his hair. ' That man is a thorn in my flesh. A thorn in my flesh '. He muttered to himself and got up from his seat.
The PA saw him drag his feet to a cupboard at the side. A bottle of wine and a glass were in his hands in the next minute. Fred poured the wine and gulped it down in a go.
' Sir, should I..... '. The scene in front of him was scary and detrimental. Right now, all he wanted to do was flee the....
' Leave!!! '. He had said he wanted to go but his instant reply and command froze his steps. The fiery eyes that were dark with a tint of gold color like a burning furnace shut his mouth. It sent shivers down his spine.
' I said leave!!! '. His voice became hoarse and it took David a minute more to get himself and vacate the office.
His body shook tremendously with his fists fastened on the glass cup, shattering it in the process. His eyes shone with a red glow. The glow spread out from his eyes to his surrounding. He held his chest and screamed in agony as he fell to the ground feeling a burning sensation in his insides.
He clutched his chest harder. The sensation had filled his insides and was now pulling at his heart, tightening it on every side. Fred coughed, and smoke escaped his lips. He coughed more and watched as more smoke seeped from his mouth. He could feel it. His veins were as though hot larva was gushing in them.
He did know where to hold again as the pain increased, the tightening was not stopping, the heat not ending and the glow became redder and thicker. Every part of his body ached. He attempted crawling to the cupboard which had turned distant when he fell to the ground, to drink the wine. It will quench not only his thirst but the fire within.
Everything started becoming dark and blurred. Before he could reach for the knob, his body fell numb and dropped to the ground with a thud.
