The ladies were so shocked at the state of the room. But they could not accept sleeping or bathing in different rooms. They preferred to stay in a room because they wanted to jest together. They also refused the maids to bathe them. "What a ridicule!" Clara had said as she furrowed her eyebrows at the maid who announced bathing for them. "It is so glossy!" Mabel had responses while Christabel nodded to support it. The maids had to allow them to do what they wanted.
They were given a towel to tie. After they did, the maids took their clothes with an explanation that they wanted to take them to the laundry room for washing. They didn't have to argue about that. So they give in. They bathed together. When they returned back to the bedroom they chose from the three bedrooms they did conform to, they met three new dresses neatly laid on the bed. It wasn't their own but more costly dresses. They were shocked because they were also in their favorite colors.
