Lillian had proposed her exchange condition, which Donald and I naturally heard loud and clear. I silently watched this deranged woman, while Donald also refrained from responding to her immediately.

A deathly silence spread between us, and just as Lillian was about to say something more, Henry, who had been silent and almost inconspicuous among us, suddenly spoke up:

"To exchange the Empress Dowager for a mere corpse, Your Majesty, what's there to hesitate about? This woman has gone mad. Are you really willing to gamble with the Empress Dowager's safety?"

Henry's pale face was filled with worry and incomprehension as he spoke. He genuinely seemed very concerned that Lillian might suddenly go berserk and hurt Licia, but I found it odd that he would interject at this moment!

I hadn't heard from Donald that Henry and Licia were particularly close...
