My father had never truly understood me, nor had he ever loved me seriously, not even once. The things he was doing right now were extremely real and concrete evidence of this.
I hadn't expected that the first "difficulty" of today's wedding would actually come from my own kin, which was a terribly ironic turn of events.
"If both Elizabeth and I were in danger, you would choose to protect her directly, wouldn't you? I really didn't want to ask you this question directly, but now..."
I said, followed by a somewhat mocking laugh, then shifted my gaze away from Frantz and looked distantly towards Donald, who had been watching this direction the whole time, "It seems I don't need an answer at all. Elizabeth is my only younger sister, and even if it costs me my life, I won't let her come to any harm. You can rest assured about that."
