Chapter 6
A completely exhausted Janet fell into a pair of long and muscular arms. Taken aback by this sudden action, her mind went blank for a few moments. The scent of his spicy cologne engulfed the tiny space of the car and when she tilted her head up, Janet saw that she was trapped under a pair of deep blue eyes. Her breathing caught in her throat as she blinked a few times to make sure she was seeing correctly. Victor ignored her perplexed gaze.
"Drive!"
His deep voice pulled her back to reality. Janet untangled herself from his powerful embrace and nervously scooted herself over until she was pressed against her side of the car.
He was wearing an expensive crisp blue suit and seeing him dressed in such an imposing manner, Janet remembered just who this man was. She sucked in a deep breath to steady herself.
"Mr. Reynolds?! What are you doing here?"
Victor didn't respond instantly. His eyes were focused on the car that were passing by outside his window. With his thumb resting on his chin, he said coldly, "Were you expecting someone else?"
His words caught her off guard and she was just still shocked at finding herself in the car of the nation's most powerful businessman. It was exciting and scary all at the same time. Janet took a moment to stable her emotions and allowed her eyes to wonder around the car. A man wearing white rimmed glasses was driving the newest addition of BMW smoothly through the city traffic. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat whenever he would occasionally peek back at them through the rear view mirror.
Janet, regaining her composure, said, "I didn't mean that way, Mr. Reynolds. Please don't mind my words. But what were you doing over here?"
Jeez! She was chased by a filthy dog but was saved by the most powerful person in the city. What a combination! Janet internally laughed at the thought while she waited for his answer. Victor didn't look over at her and kept his gaze fixed out the window as his hand hung leisurely against the car door.
"I came to remind Miss Kingsley that we have unfinished business."
Janet felt as if several arrows were suddenly aiming at her.
Don't.... don't tell me that he came to find me? Me?!
Janet resisted the urge to cry out in frustration. Pursing her lips together, she struggled in forming her question. "M-Mr. Reynolds…you actually came here to find me? Wait! You were following me?"
Victor sighed and straightened in his seat. Without showing any hint of hesitation, he revealed, "Yes, you could say that."
Janet was certain that the sky was crashing down over her head. Her eyes were wide and her voice trembled as she said, "What! What business do we have?"
Victor tore his eyes from the passing scenery and shifted his gaze over to her with a menacing look that seemed to say that she was the biggest idiot he had ever seen.
"About my offer from earlier!" he yelled.
Janet felt her eyes sting with the tears that threatened to spill down her pale cheeks. She had already refused the damned idea of getting married and thought that she had managed to dodge this whole troublesome situation. But trouble came walking, well technically driving, back into her life regardless. Janet nervously twirled a strand of her hair and calculated her next words. She was too afraid to anger the most powerful man of the country.
Victor saw through her hesitation and instantly his face clouded over.
Taking a lungful of air, Janet explained, "Mr. Reynolds, I don't know why you are so obsessed with the idea of marrying me. If I marry, I will no longer be able to pay attention to my life goals. Right now, my world revolves around pursuing my career and my dreams no matter the cost."
Victor studied her firm expression. Tapping a long finger on his knees, he lips quirked up in a smirk as an idea came to him. "Then let me become the part of your world. You can get whatever you wish once you are married to me."
Her control was slipping and Janet felt herself becoming annoyed. Without facing his intense blue eyes, she blurted out helplessly, "That's the problem! I wish to become the most powerful woman of this country on my own. I don't want to depend on others. You won't change my mind, sir."
Victor shook his head firmly and then leaned over, his breath hot against her ear as he replied, "I only wish to change your surname."
Janet was stunned before blushed slightly. Ah! Was he hitting on her?
"Mr. Reynolds, I really, really don't wish to get married right now. Besides, I have so many urgent matters to handle today. I would appreciate it if you didn't mention this topic any further."
While she spoke, she glanced outside and noticed that she had actually arrived in her residential area.
Perfect!
Ignoring the cold look in his eyes, Janet yelled at the driver, "Stop the car! I want to get off."
Zaid didn't immediately stop the car and nervously looked back at Victor who gave him a nod of approval. After he received a positive signal from his president, Zaid pulled over and parked the car. Janet almost jumped out in that moment but paused holding the door ajar.
Turning slightly, she gave Victor a small bow and with a sincere smile said, "Thank you for saving me today from that crazy ass dog, Mr. Reynolds. I think this makes us even now. I wish you good luck with your business!"
Then she scrambled out of the vehicle and walked quickly towards her apartment. Victor sat there with an unreadable expression. After a few moments of just sitting there, Zaid awkwardly cleared his throat.
"Ummm… president, are you really going to let her go like this?"
Victor sighed softly, dropped his head back against the seat and murmured, "When someone doesn't understand what is good for her, it's my job to make sure that she understands."
Zaid pondered his words. Though he didn't completely understand the underlined meaning of his words, he was sure that his president wasn't going to let go of this woman so easily. He had seen something different in his eyes when he spoke to her—something that he hadn't seen in a long time.

Meanwhile, Janet heaved sigh of relief once she was back in the safety of her apartment. Her brows furrowed in confusion. She couldn't understand why did he was so fixated on marrying her.
It's so strange! Does he really like me?
Her wandering thoughts didn't last long as her phone began to ring, breaking her serenity. Startled, she hastily answered. Envy's voice screeched out like a banshee, making Janet's ears ring.
"What the fuck are you doing?! Have you thought about your next move? How are you going to clean up this mess?"
Janet returned to her cruel reality and painfully bit down her on her lower lip. Her plan of talking with the director's wife failed.
Her voice shook as she confessed, "I...I haven't…figured it out yet..."
Envy's frustrated growl came through the phone and Janet heard a long string of curses.
"I knew it! Whatever, I have created a shortcut for you. Just go and apologize to the director tonight. He will be at the Redmoon Bar."
Janet couldn't understand why she needed to apologize when she didn't do anything wrong. Just as she was about to refuse her agent's idea, a plan started to form in her mind.
Her lips curved into a cunning smiled and with renewed energy said, "Don't worry, Envy! I won't disappoint you this time!"
Since the director was using malicious tactics to ruin her reputation, she wouldn't be holding back anymore.
