Today was the first day of school at the most prestigious of the hero academies: The Hero Academia.
At the beginning of the twenty Fourth century, when it was discovered that the ratio between powered individuals and non powered individuals favored the powered, university education was abolished and it was replaced.
The Hero Academia was just one of the many schools that took in powered individuals from around the world. Just making it into the academy was a glory in itself.
Troy walked down the hall. Troy was of African American origin. He had white hair, and he was a little bit above average in height. He was in the all black outfit of the school uniform, with golden buttons to indicate his dormitory: Goldstar dormitory. It was named after the hero Goldstar who had the ability to manipulate energy around him, giving it a golden hue. He could form energy shields, blast golden energy from his arms, and so much more. Goldstar dorm was for people with similar abilities. Not just energy manipulators, but elementals, telekinetics, and basically anybody with the ability to manipulate different kinds of energies around them.
Although today was the first day of school, cadets have been on school grounds for a week now, and Troy had used that to his advantage.
Anybody who said they didn't know Troy was either lying or had just arrived.
As Troy walked down the hall to his class, people called out his name in greeting.
"Hey Troy!"
"Hey…what's up, man?" He replied.
"Good morning Troy." A female said. She was huge and literally looked down on Troy.
"Hey April. Looking as beautiful as always. Hehe…"
April turned away, blushing.
Left and right, people vied for his attention. His dead parents' fame helped, but he was one of the popular kids because of his own charm.
He checked his watch. He was almost fifteen minutes early. That's good.
"Yo Troy."
Troy turned around.
"Hey Eddie."
"You're up early…"
"What's that supposed to mean? I'm always early!" Troy replied defensively.
Eddie just scoffed.
Eddie was a fire elemental. He was Hispanic, with full afro hair that had a red streak on the left side. Eddie was shorter than Troy but not by much.
"Wha–"
"Hey Eddie."
They both turned to see Patricia. She was, maybe, Irish. No one was sure, and she never made an effort to clarify her origins. She had black hair that was plaited backwards.
"What's up Patricia?" Troy asked.
Patricia just nodded, and focused back on Eddie.
"I just made a pair of rocket boots. If you channel fire to your feet, it'd make you fly!"
"Oh?" Eddie was interested now.
Between the three of them, Eddie was the only one who couldn't fly.
It always struck Troy as odd, the fact that the three of them rolled together. Apart from the fact that they all lived in the same dorm, they had nothing else in common. Patricia was just here because of Eddie. Even a blind man could see that she had a massive crush on Eddie. And apart from spending some time with her, Eddie didn't show he liked her. It was a weird kind of relationship. But Troy had no idea why Eddie stuck with him. He was used to being some kind of popular loner, but now Eddie had ruined that reputation. Not that he had a problem with it, but it was still weird.
And to make matters more awkward, Troy originally had a crush on Patricia. Well that ship had sailed, as she was now smitten with Eddie.
He was about to tell them to go get a room when someone tapped his shoulder.
He whirled around, surprised. How did he let someone sneak up on him like that?
But he relaxed a bit when he saw who it was.
Paul. A scrawny little kid who had the ability to become invisible.
"T-Troy! I need your help!"
"What's up, Paul?"
"Jake is trying to beat up my sister."
"What?"
Paul flinched at the question. Troy felt bad for him.
"She refused to go out with him, so he got mad and hit her. I rushed to find you as soon as I could."
"Where are they?" Troy said coldly. What he hated the most was someone oppressing another person weaker than them. Before his parents died, he had learnt one thing: we were given these powers to protect those weaker than us.
"Just around that corner."
