The detective in charge slammed the door hard shut behind him and dragged a chair nearer to the table. Ava's head was slightly buzzing because of the screeching sound of the chair dragging along the cement floor.
The detective then sagged back in the chair, raised up both of his legs and rest them against the table. He clicked his tongue few times as he looked at Ava with a faint smirk hanging on his lips. He didn't even bother to hide that sceptical look in his eyes as if Ava was truly the murderer.
After awhile, he straight up grilled Ava with hot questions, "Tell me why did you kill her?"
"Me? Motive?" retort Ava back. Unstirred by him, Ava returned back his gaze with deep stares and her usual cold expression.
"C'mon. We don't have to play this little game. The more you coorperated, the lighter punishment you'll get. So why did you kill her?" persuaded the detective in half-hearted manner. He just wanted to get his work done faster and go back sleep. To him, it was very clear that Ava was the killer and he didn't want to increase his workloads by delving further into this case. It was all waste of his time, energy and resources. What a lazy bum!
"I didn't kill her, Sir." Ava defended herself. She toned down her sarcastic attitude but that didn't mean this bad police could easily force confession from her. Since she didn't do it, she won't give in especially this was a crime case. She was law abiding citizen and she continued to stay that way as longest as possible.
Unless there were some perverts or robbers who wanted to harm her, then she won't hesitate to fight them although to prover her action to be in self defense would be very hard but she still wanted to live. She had yet to find the purpose of her life and on top of that, she just reunited with Gabs. She shall hold on to the promise even though Gabs had forgotten about it.
He rolled his eyes at Ava when he heard she denied the charge. Since the evidences were clear, why bother to deny them? His mind was set on the fact that Ava was working alone in the storage room where Olivia's dead body was found and also Ava was the last person to stay back at the cafe. Furthermore, Ava was also the last person who made contact with the victim and based on the information they had gotten so far, the short visit there didn't end well. With these facts, Ava became the most suspicious one and had the strongest motive for the murder since they both didn't have a good relationship to begin with.
Ava's constant denial irritated him. He then changed his posture, kept his spine straight, clasped both of his hands together as he leaned closer towards Ava.
"The victim is your aunt. She supported your schools but you sound distant when addressing the victim. It seems like you've some disagreements with the victim. About the cafe maybe?"
"No, Sir." denied Ava again. Ava maintained a poker face and didn't quiver at all under the detective's pressure.
"But the nurse said that the victim was crying while apologising to you this afternoon. Somehow you aren't satisfied with her apologies so you decided to kill her. Isn't that right?"
"Wrong, Sir. She didn't tell me why she cried but she indeed apologised to me. She said she failed being a good aunt and mother to me."
"Ha ha," the detective scoffed, stood up and walked back and forth. He ran through another possible murder's motive as he was keen to prove that Ava was the murderer. He refused to budge from his one-sided stance.
"So the victim refused to transfer the ownership of the shop to you. That's why you kill her because you want the shop. After all, you're the only left in her family. Naturally after she died, the shop's title will belong to you," pressured him again.
"I work because she can't manage the shop due to the accident and I didn't intend to have the shop. If she wants to give it to someone else, that's okay for me," said Ava as she gave a nonchalant shrug. To Ava, the cafe didn't represent anything at all. She worked there out of her filial peity as the niece-daughter to Olivia. She could choose to work at other higher paying jobs after graduation but she didn't.
"Why is that? Nobody dislike wealth." The detective taunted her.
"I just don't, Sir." Ava reaffirmed.
"But you seemed calm when your staff showed you the victim's body. She's your aunt and a mother to you but your reaction...unusual."
"Blood didn't terrified me and I don't have to act sad to prove that I'm not the killer."
"But you're. The scars on your hand...you got injured when you killed her right?"
"No, Sir. These injuries...because I punched a wall this afternoon."
The tension in the room intensified. The detective loomed over Ava and looked down at her from the standing view to make Ava feel trapped. He ignored Ava's explanation and proceeded to grill her over and over again. What a stubborn detective!
"Because you're mad with the victim. You can't hold it any longer so you killed her. We've found others' blood on the scene other than the victim's. It's just the matter of time the result comes out. Let's cut this whole process short okay? It's your blood."
"It's probably my blood but I wasn't the one who killed her. The handkerchief got loosened up and I've got new cuts on my palm while I was doing the work there."
"But you were the only one who's in the room for hours and also the last person to close up the store. You've plenty of times and perfect chance to do it. The work was only a diguise you gave to your staff."
"But I didn't!" Ava slightly raised up her voice.
