Kyle's P.O.V
"This is unacceptable! How can they not pay for the portion of the land that I gave them!" My dad yelled to our financial manager over the phone. I knew that he was Amber's dad and he was busy sorting out business in the Red Stone Pack, my dad had a hot temper, especially when things weren't going his way. My father was your typical alpha, extremely strong and very quick to get angry over the smallest of things. The Red Stone Pack was two months overdue on a payment deal that they had arranged with my father, and he was pissed.
"Do they want me to come over there and show them just how upset they've made me?" He growled lowly into the phone, clearly the meeting wasn't going well between Ambers father and the Red Stone Pack. I was also feeling quite annoyed with how the other pack was handling the situation. My father had allowed them a small portion of our land to help build their pack. Payment was always apart of the deal, so to hear that they haven't been paying for the last two months was a big slap in the face towards my father and his kindness.
Being in charge of the strongest and largest pack was a huge responsibility and often led to some hard decisions, so kindness wasn't always an option and when it was given and not respected it would make for a very angry alpha.
"Henry I trust you to sort all of this bullshit out, if you need me to come there and kick their asses into gear then I'll be there in the morning. Let me know how it progresses in the next hour." With that said my father ended the call and threw the phone on his desk.
"Doesn't sound like that's going too well." I said trying to make light of the situation. My father was a good man, he treated our family how any father should treat them. He was always strict but fair, making the best choices he thought for us.
"No son, it's not. Henry is handling it, but says that Alpha Thomas isn't responding in the way we hoped. He's hiding something and I'm going to figure out what it is." My father snarled, today was a long day for us both, I didn't end up going to school because my father needed me to help with some pack business. He's trying to prepare me as best he can for when I have to take over in a few years, he likes me to come to all the pack meetings and even makes me host them occasionally. Being future alpha wasn't all shits and giggles, it was fucking hard work and I could see the stress it left on my father. "Aren't you supposed to be somewhere?" My father asked me clearly trying to change the subject.
"Ambers little sister turns 18 tonight, she's hosting a party or something." I shrugged, I wasn't really the party type- I didn't have time for them. Between school, training, and alpha duties there was little time for anything. That's why I was relieved to have not met my mate yet, it's just another added stress that I don't need. "It's a party that I don't need to be attending." I stated getting up to stretch my legs.
"Nonsense, you and that Amber girl make a good couple. You should make a good impression on her family, even if you are soon-to-be alpha." My father followed suit standing up, for an old man he was fucking strong. "You made a commitment, now stick with it. And go and have some fun. We're done for the day, I don't need you anymore." He smiled, hitting my shoulder on his way out of the study.
"You pack a mean punch old man." I said rubbing my shoulder. Laughter was his only response.
....
"If I'm going, then so are you." I said to Paul my second in command and Sam my third. I wasn't going to be attending a party with people 2 years younger than me by myself. I know that Amber and her friends would be there but it was always nice to have people I was comfortable with there.
"Hell yeah we'll come. We were invited, the whole bloody school was invited. I think James and Seth are already there." Sam said checking his phone. "Yup, they're there. They said we must hurry our asses up, apparently it's going down as the biggest party of the year."
Sam was my third in command, he was the biggest partier out of Paul and I. Well I didn't really party and Paul went to the occasional one, so it wasn't really saying a lot. Both of them haven't found their mates and aren't really fazed but it, just like me. That's why I am happy to just have a girlfriend, they don't expect as much a mates do and there isn't this long term commitment involved. Amber is pretty serious and I do think that she thinks that there's more between her and I, but there isn't and there could never be. I know I say that mates are a hectic commitment, but I do want to find mine one day and I would hope that Amber would too.
"Damn and Ambers sister is hosting, who would've thought that Miss Goody-Two-Shoes sister would be cool." Paul scoffed, he wasn't the biggest fan of Amber. I think it was because he thought that our relationship was detrimental to our future mates. Paul never liked to say it but he was a huge romantic, his main goal in life was to meet his mate and fall happily in love. He didn't think it was a good idea to date people that weren't your mate, especially not have sex with them- that was reserved only for your mate.
"Dude you needa chill on your hate for Amber. She's not a bad chick." Sam defended, Sam was super easy-going. He didn't care too much about anything, except the pack. We were all walking out towards my car in the driveway, I didn't drink so I would be the designated driver.
"I just think that you're both setting yourselves up for failure. Someone is going to get hurt, and I don't want to see it be you." He said hitting me on the back of the head. He was my beta but my best friend first, so we were comfortable around each other, I never saw anything he did as a sign of disrespect to my title. It was always just good fun and banter.
"We're just having harmless fun with each other." I finally said. I didn't like to over think it too much, I liked to go with the flow.
"Does Amber know it's just harmless fun? Cause she's pretty serious dude. I don't see her being the type of girl to just 'have fun.'" He said using his fingers to make air quotes over 'have fun'.
"Guys! We're going to a party? Can we leave the scolding to another night? Lets just enjoy ourselves and get loose." Sam sung turning up the radio as I started the engine. I knew that Paul had a point, I just didn't want to deal with those responsibilities right now. "Here Paul have some of this. This dude I know is making this sick werewolf alcohol that makes you pretty wasted. You need it, you're a bit high-strung, maybe you shoul dbe having sex." Sam joked handing Paul a bottle of green liquid.
"This smells awful, what's in it?" Paul said smelling the liquid and ignoring the sex comment.
"Like 0.05% wolfs-bane! But it's totally harmless. It just helps us get where we need to be without having to drink 50 litres of alcohol." Sam smiled in the back, I didn't say anything. Sounded gross to me, why would anyone want to drink poison?
"You're weird dude. But I trust you." Paul sighed and took a swing of the green liquid. Tonight was going to be a very eventful night.
When we arrived at the party it was in full swing. There must've been around 200 people there. The house was massive so it supported the huge amount of people well. I guess working in finance does people well. Sam was drunk because he had almost finished his entire bottle of green poison and Paul I could tell was feeling far more relaxed.
"Woo!! This is epic, I'm going to go find James and Seth." Sam cheered running inside to find our friends. Paul and I took our time walking towards the door, everyone in the parking lot was staring at us, which was normal. We were both soon going to be our packs highest in commands, we were used to the stares. I had messaged Amber to let her know that we were here and I could see she was waiting at the front door.
"Glad to see you both made it." She beamed up at both of us, I could smell the same green liquid on her breath as Sam was drinking. I wonder if the whole party had been drinking it, and hoped it wasn't harmful. Amber looked beautiful as usual, she was wearing a long silky blue dress that went well with her blonde hair and blue eyes. She hardly ever wore make-up and it suited her, she was naturally pretty.
"Sorry we're so late, meeting ran over." I shrugged giving her a kiss on her forehead. We were new to the relationship. We had only been dating for about two months, so we were still getting comfortable with each other, we haven't even crossed the line to sex yet. But I figured that Amber was the type to wait for her mate.
"It's really no trouble, things have only just started getting good. My sister is outside playing beer pong with her friends. So I'll introduce you to her a bit later, I think it's getting pretty heated out there." As Amber led us inside I was hit with the most delicious smell I've ever smelt. It smelt like vanilla, strawberry, and fresh earth- all three of my favourite smells.
"Mate." My wolf growled. Oh you've got to be kidding me.
