Chapter 6 - Fig tree

"It is quite a lot bugs today isn't it?" asked Alexander as he swatted bug away as we walked towards the fig tree, "I don't rather recall there being this many when we were kids."

"Tis the home of the poor bugs that you are trying to deprive of life."

"Yes, but surely they would have a little more decorum, and be better hosts." he said as he continued swatting, and I smiled a little at how funny he looked, "my dear what was that? Was that a smile I presume? Do I amuse you? I am quite amusing aren't I?"

"Yes your face does amuses me. It is like that of a dying goat, which I find to be quite hilarious."

"Ha ha. You have such a great sense of humor." he said with a straight face, and I smiled as I walked ahead of him.

"You had the area cleared?"

"Of course I did. I wanted us to have a wonderful time." he said now walking ahead of me leading the way.

"The late is looking quite lovely today.

"Yes the sun is so gracious to us today, but you are more beautiful my lady." he said, and I rolled my eyes and shook my head at his nonsense.

"Oh enough with your nonsense Alexander. Your charming words may work on other maidens, but I can assure you that they won't work on me."

"But whatever other maidens do you speak of my lady? I can assure you that I only have eyes for you my dear Adelia." he said taking my hand placing a kiss on the back of it, as he looked me deeply in my eyes.

"Hmm. If you so think that flattering me with your pretty words will make me dis like you even less, then you have thought wrong. Now let us get on with this picnic so that it can finally be over." I said stomping away and folded my arms.

"My sweet Adelia." he said as he held my jaw bringing my head up so that I can look at him.

"Although I know not of the reason why you have grown to resent me this much, I shall not only try to win you over with pretty words, but also by being a gentleman and the best husband."

"I do not wish to marry you my lord." I said in all finality, but he just smiled as he said.

"One think I know for certain is that neither of us know the future, but I do pray that the odds will be in my favor. Here is a tart. I still remember of how much you loved pastries." he said handing me a strawberry tart, and my mouth watered as I looked at its flaky sugary goodness, and I wanted to refuse it, but alas my stomach had won the battle.

"Thank you, but do know that gifting me with pastries will not make me dis like you any less either."

"Ha ha. Well they do say that the quickest way to a woman's heart is through her stomach." he said, and I furrowed my eyebrows shaking my head no, for that was most definitely not how the saying goes.

"No. I am quite sure my lord that they said that it was the quickest way to a man's heart not a woman's."

"Well my dear let it be known that this is the day that I Lord Alexander Astros deemed food to be the way to a woman's heart. Please my lady." he said wiping the corner of my mouth before bringing the finger to his lips then opened his mouth tasting it, "allow me."

"You have changed a lot Alexander. You are more playful. Is this what the America's did to you? Did it cause you mingle with everyone?"

"Yes, it is quite different from here in England, but it is not who should take all the praise for the way I am now for I had always been like this my lady. Don't you remember the way your cheeks would turn bright red whenever we played? Wouldn't you say that I was quite playful then?" he asked, and I thought about it.

"We were all but kids Alexander. You cannot simply expect me to remember every single detail."

"Yes you are right, but you must remember is of how much we loved each other, and the promise that we made to each other." he said taking something from his pocket, and I gasped.

"My handkerchief? I didn't know that you still had it."

"Of course I did. It was the only thing that kept me going all this time." he said as he looked at it fondly.

"Why did you stopped writing?" I asked wanting to know the answer, for if he truly cared about me that much how could he forget me.

"I stopped writing for I felt as if we were growing apart." We used to write to each other every week, and we would have lots to say, but then one day your letter just felt as if you didn't want to talk to me anymore. It wasn't even sprayed with your special scent so I just felt as if I was a bother so I started writing less, and in the end just stopped writing all together."

"Yes people do grow, and change. Somethings are better left in the past my lord, like the love we shared."

"But I do not want it to be that way lady please. If there is anything I can do to make you forgive me for my sins I will do it. I will even walk to the ends of the Earth if you want me to my lady, and that is not even the half of willingness to do anything for your love."

"Ha ha. You are rather cute my lord, but any of that will not be necessary."

"Does this mean that you dislike me any less?" he asked hopefully, and I laughed for he looked like little puppy.

"I will put some more thought into it."

"Yes!" he exclaimed in all excitement as he rose to his feet jumping in the air, and I chuckled as his silliness.

"Be careful my lord you might-"

"Woah!" he exclaimed as he fell backwards and into the lake, and I couldn't hold my laughter as he rose to his feet soaking wet.

"Oh my word are you okay?" I asked while laughing as I rose to my feet giving him a hand.

"Well that's embarrassing."

"For what it's worth, I do dislike you a little less right now." I said and he smiled brightly.

"If making you laugh means that you will like me a little bit more each time, then I shall be an entire circus for you my lady. Now to get out of these wet clothes." he said undoing the button of his waist coat, and I gasped and turned away as he did so.

"My lord this is quite scandalous. You cannot be seen doing such things."

"But whatever am I doing my lady? I am just getting out of my wet garments nothing more." he said, and I had to fight with every fiber in my soul to not turn around and look.

"You know exactly what you are doing my lord.'

"Turn around Adelia." he said and I firmly shook my head no, "please. Just only for a moment."

"Okay, but just for a moment." I said I slowly turned around and gasped at the sight of what I saw, "my lord."

"My lady."
