I clung to Leo's wrist, trying to make sense of our situation.
"Who is that?" Nadine whispered beside me, her high-pitch voice sounding shrill with fear. "He's covered in ... Is that seaweed?"
"A mermaid," Leo mumbled jokingly. I appreciate his attempt to lighten the mood, but I didn't respond to either of them.
My head hurt. My face, especially. Just being around this sea monster made me dizzy.
"I have to sit down," I said, but Leo and Nadine shook their heads at me.
The angel stepped toward the merman. He extended a glowing hand and placed it on the person washed ashore.
"You are safe now," he said soothingly. "I have much to explain to all of you, especially you, Ezekiel."
"Ezekiel?" Nadine narrowed her eyes at the merman, then rushed up to him and flipped him onto his back. "Wake up, Zeke! I know you!"
