Chereads / Trapped Goddess in a Godless World / Chapter 7 - Man-Eating Rabbits

Chapter 7 - Man-Eating Rabbits

Against the voices of the guards at City W gates, Cithrel stood staring at the flat lands. If she looked behind her, she knew she'd be seeing the mountains that climbed miles and miles into the sky. Even when she tried to look up, to make out the ceiling of this strange tower, she couldn't. Had she not known she fell through floors, she would have never guessed that this wasn't like Earth.

In the distance she could see groups of animals, resting and eating the grass. Some were positioned tightly together, while others was either by themselves or a good distance from its herd.

Cithrel started down the dirt path, watching each creature.

"What is the weakest?"

[Wererabbits.]

She scanned for them, spotting a wererabbit not far from her. From her distance she couldn't tell very well just what made it a wererabbit, or how it was different from the cute fluffy things she saw on Earth.

Cithrel didn't stop until she was able to reach the beasts, seeing their level and HP above them as they jumped.

[level 1 - 25 HP]

She watched them.

[Wererabbits are small beasts with limited abilities. However, when facing a horde, even advance players should run for the hills.]

Cithrel had not asked about them.

[They contain mana, with a low chance of dropping mana crystals. When killed, a wererabbit is also able to drop a number of different loop. From coins to magic positions and even magic scrolls. They can also be tamed.]

The last bit caught Cithrel attention. Tamed. She had seen many players play a Beast Tamer and each time it had always varied on their abilities.

[They were given the name by the King of Wolfdom. A legend follows the rabbits that a selected many are able to transform into a different beast when on the verge of death. Thus, the King had decided to call them wererabbits, as he had claimed to see one change into a werewolf. A hideous beast known to come out only during a Full Moon.]

Cithrel was learning more then she cared to about the beasts. But she could only acknowledge that she knew very little about this game, about this world. And that this information, even if it wasn't important at this moment, could one day help her.

[All classes are good to deal with wererabbits.]

She already had a class in mind.

"Force activate, Rites of Elementalist ."

It was a class that would greatly help her now. A class that seemed powerful. A class that would change the very road she walked on.

With such a high chance of success, she was more then confident that she'll gain this ability.

[Activation of Elementalist beginning.... 0%..]

[To gain percentage quickly, you will need to fight.]

A wicked grin formed. She had nothing to win against these beasts. Yet, the system was telling her that she had to fight.

She clenched a fist.

"Alright."

It was dangerous, even if they were easy monsters.

"Just tell me the percentage and nothing else."

Cithrel didn't want to get distracted by the voice. She charged, thinking of a plan. She charged, remembering all there was to a fight while testing out her characters.

How many times had she went into a game?

How many times had she started out as someone weak?

How many times had she been forced with odds that slammed against her?

The world was against her. Society had been against her.

And now this game was.

[Battled Logged. All escape routes have been removed.]

The words quickly flashed. Too quickly for her to make it all out.

A feeling of unease twisted inside of her as eyes turned with furious glares. The once cute wererabbits changed at an incredible speed. They morphed to be bigger then a house cat. Their ears enlarged and a few even got teeth.

This was not what she excepted.

The most noticeable change was the sudden blood-lust in the air.

Her body tensed and she stopped as they charged at her.

With a swipe of her hand a shield formed. One step back was all she could take before she was surrounded. She had made the wrong assumption as names appeared above the beasts slamming to the shield.

[Demon Rabbits - Level 8 - HP 230]

Pain hit her as teeth sunk into a shoulder. Her hand snatched it by its hair, throwing it away before she turned, once more using her shield to block an attack.

If they hadn't been taken turns they would have done much more. Even as Cithrel searched for it, she couldn't find any signs of what her HP was at or her Mana.

[Activation of Elementalist 22%]

At this rate, she wouldn't be able to make it. Thoughts of what to do raced through her mind.

There were eight of the Demon Rabbits in this group. More grazing in a different area. Not only were they quick, but Cithrel could already see signs of another morphing coming to them.

Breathing was slowly becoming harder.

[Activation of Elementalist 25%]

Another one broke past her shield. She slammed her fist into the monster as it tore flesh from her arm. Blood dripped down it as she whipped around, stopping the next one.

Patterns.

She was slowly getting it.

[Activation of Elementalist 26%]

The one her back was to would attack. The others would wait until it was back on the ground before attack next. Her shield would last only ten seconds. Enough to block only two of them if they attacked quickly.

[Activation of Elementalist 45%]

She staggered as a news flashed in front of her. Pain sored as a cry escaped her lips as one of the Demon Rabbits latched itself once more onto her.

Hope disappeared.

That single sliver of hope she had desperately grabbed onto vanished.

[Activation of Elementalist Failed.]

She had believed she could do it. Believed that even with nothing she could have achieved this. If she had faced a God and been sent to this world, shouldn't it have succeeded.

Shouldn't she have been able to retrieve this power?
