Chapter 78 - Chapter 78

Alex's POV

We made our way back home hand-in-hand, cracking jokes and talking about what would change in Jacke's life now that he was my Luna. It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but he needed to know that he would need to be more careful about his lifestyle; Acting more in the shadows and not trying to cause a scene everywhere he went. He took it shockingly well, going so far as to explain that it wouldn't be difficult to make those kinds of changes with the decades upon decades worth of resources he'd built up.

"It won't be a drastic change, from the sounds of it, it would just mean that I'd have to do less of the leg work and live a more peaceful life by your side," He said squeezing my hand, and I would've been lying if I said that my heart didn't skip a beat.

"What did I ever do to deserve you, Pup?"

"Do I need to make a list? I think the most potent reason would probably be that you exist," He said chuckling as we made our way up the trail back home. It took a lot of willpower to not pin him against the outer wall and lick his mark, but I wasn't going to be mean tonight.

"To be honest, I thought you were going to try and spin that around, saying that you were the one who didn't deserve me. I'm glad you didn't though, that would mean I'd have to fight you," I said as we made our way through the gate and back home, seeing that people were tiring in for the night. We passed Nicki and Jade as they came home from dinner, and gave us a quick wave before Jade pulled her partner inside with a mischievous look in her eyes.

"It's good to see everyone is getting along," Jacke said as we made our way up the stairs to the packhouse, "Everyone more or less is acting like one big family, as dysfunctional as you'd think it would be."

"I think it's because my pack was more or less flattered that you were willing to give the resources to move us all out here, even if it were my decision. Your family, on the other hand, just seem happy to have more people to interact with that don't want to kill them outright."

"It's good to know that they like your family, I was a little nervous about how this would play out in hindsight, but it seems those anxieties were for nothing," He said as we walked into the packhouse, Pete was sitting on a stool and waved for us to join him. We sat down next to him as he finished his drink, and turned to Alex with a prideful look on her face.

"I'm proud to let you guys know that your room has been set up, we didn't hang anything up or anything, but we did move all of Alex's stuff into your room and stacked the boxes in the corners as to not waste any space," He said before looking to Jacke, "I think you'll be in for one hell of a surprise, Alex and I worked together for a couple of days to think of what to buy you for Y'alls room."

"Thank you, Uncle, and that second thing that I had mentioned yesterday?"

"Already taken care of, it's waiting upstairs for you," He said which caused Jacke to look at me with blatant confusion. I squeezed his hand before we got back up, and left to go upstairs after thanking him one last time for all his help.

"What did he mean by that? I'll be surprised? What have you been planning, Dear Alpha?" Jacke said as we made our way up the stairs towards the top floor.

"You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?"

"Oh come on, you can't even give me a hint?"

"Considering that we're not even two minutes from our room, I think you can be patient," I said as we finished climbing the stairs, "Besides, I promised you it would be worth your patience, didn't I?"

"Yes, Mom," He groaned as we made our way to the doors, and I covered his eyes as I opened the doors and led him inside.

"Alright, here you are," I said as I moved my hands so he could see his surprise.

Inside the room, most of my stuff had been moved in, my desk and chair were off to one side while my dresser and clothes were sitting in the corner. Sitting on the bed was one of my old hoodies, a small box with a bow on it, and a case full of Lucifer's Cola. He picked up the hoodie and didn't even wait to put it on and the face he had when he smelled it was adorable. He picked up the small box and looked at me with a confused look on his face.

"It's not a ring, is it? I feel like that would be a little corny," He said shaking it a little bit to try and figure out what it was before opening it.

"No, it's not a ring, but it's about as significant in terms of sentimental value in my opinion," I said before taking a seat next to him as he opened it. Inside was a small pocket watch with one side silver and the other side. He opened it and on the silver side was the actual watch, whereas the gold side had a small picture of the two of us after we had finished the bank heist.

"Okay...two things, One, when did you take this picture? And two, I fucking love this!!" He almost yelled as he pulled me into a hug.

"I took that picture after the heist we pulled, after we stopped at the bar I asked for a picture with you for 'personal' reasons, and this was why," I said before kissing his cheek while he continued staring at the pocket watch, I had honestly thought about buying him a ring but decided against it in favor of something a bit more personalized, "I found this pocket watch when I was going through my things when we were moving our stuff out, it was a gift from my grandmother before she passed when I was young. I never really used it but always kept it somewhere safe to remember her, I think she would approve of me giving it to you as a gift."

He took the watch and put it in the smaller pocket in his jeans, next to a coin that caught my eye. He caught my gaze and knew I was looking at the coin, so he took it out and handed it to me. It was a two-headed coin, and just like the watch I gave him, one side was silver and the other side was gold.

"This coin is the scythe that I was using during our time in the Necropolis," He said before taking it back and standing up, "It's known as 'Cronus' Sickle', and it's a powerful weapon, if a bit unpredictable."

"I can see why you chose it then, can you show me?" I asked and he flipped the coin in the air, and when it came back down, sure enough, the split scythe landed in his hand.

"If anything, this weapon chose me, in a way. When Jameson, Damien, and I went to visit Sisto at her weapon shop, I picked up a gun that was chambered for .600 Nitro Express and was content to leave it at that; But as I was looking around I saw this scythe on the wall, and it turns out that it has some serious history behind it," He said before tossing it back into the air, and catching it again as the two-faced coin.

"That's pretty cool, quite terrifying to anyone else, but cool," I said before pulling him back into my arms, "Pete and Mason have been spreading the word that you've accepted your position by my side, and explained to my pack that you won't be doing a speech. Some of them were disappointed, others thought you were scared to do it, but they explained the 'why' of the situation, and those that had their doubts about you changed their minds rather quickly."

"To be honest with you, at the risk of sounding disrespectful, I don't give a damn what they think of me. I'm not leaving your side, that bite in my neck sealed that deal, you're stuck with me," He said as he relaxed into my arms.

"I know, Love, not that I would ever want your cute ass to leave. You're a real gift to me, and to try and leave you high and dry would only dishonor myself to my pack. The same could be said for you though, I know you like being a free man and all that, but you're stuck with me forever now. You understand that, right?"

"What?! No, having to stay by your side through all the highs and lows that life has to offer?? Oh, the humanity!" He said with sarcasm lacing every word, as we settled in for the night. I was glad that I finally had him by my side, and even more so that he had no intentions of running this time. Life would throw curveballs and wrenches to try and disrupt our lives, but with him by my side I knew we would be able to handle near anything.
