Jacke's POV
To say I was anxious as we walked through the doors to see some of Alex's family members there would be a massive understatement, I didn't think I would've been asked to talk with them this soon, but I suppose it was better now than later. One of them walked forward to shake my hand and pulled me into one hell of a bear hug.
"It's about time we met you, Lad," He said before letting go, giving me room to breathe after he squeezed the wind out of me, "Alex has spoken quite highly of you, and rightfully so it would seem, as we're building our new home here. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Pete, Alex's uncle and the one who more or less took her in after her parents passed."
"Pete, I'm surprised you guys were waiting for us here, I thought we weren't to go through with the ceremony until later this week. You know, once we're done rebuilding and all?" Alex asked through a glare that would make most men shit themselves, but apparently, Uncle Pete had seen this glare before and wasn't caught off guard by it.
"Well, the ceremony is still scheduled for later this week as you requested, but that doesn't mean we couldn't come and meet the guy, right?" He said looking at her with a 'Sorry not sorry' type of look, before looking back at me, "Care to introduce yourself?"
"Well, I can certainly try, where should I start though? I've quite the list of stories to tell after all," I said, causing Alex to chuckle before she went to the kitchen and grabbed a drink for the both of us, and passing some out to her family.
"Well, you know I would just stick with the basics, for now, we don't want to overwhelm you. We just want to get to know the man that was able to melt Alex's frozen heart is all."
"Well then, I guess I'd call myself an 'acquirer of certain goods'. My family is my life, and everything that I've ever done in my life has been to keep them safe, and now it would seem that my family is more or less expanding, now that I have Alex by my side. It's actually a funny story about how we met the first time because I would be lying if I said I didn't think she wanted to stab me, I wasn't exactly the most respectful guy."
"You could say that again, nerd, but there's always more than what meets the eye. You were definitely cold and a bit rude, but when we did that first hunt, I could tell that I had misjudged you," She said putting her arm around my shoulder before taking a swig of her drink, "I personally would've described you as a bit cocky that first night, but afterward it was blatant that it was a facade, I just didn't realize why nor how deep that facade went."
"Okay, but can you blame me? You carried yourself the same way Derick does, but even more intense, and for all the right reasons."
"Then it would seem obvious to me why Jacke was chosen for you, Alex," Pete said before taking a swig of his own, "A soft-spoken man who obeys his mate, I wouldn't be surprised if you were an Omega, no offense of course though."
That caught me off guard and caused me to almost spit my drink out, and as difficult as it was, I finished it and broke into hysterical laughter. That was the one problem that I had with myself, is something small and simple could make me laugh my ass off, but a well-spoken joke could go completely over my head.
"What's so funny? I wasn't trying to make a joke, Lad."
"I know I know, and I apologize if that was rude, but you're not entirely wrong. I am an Omega, but not a werewolf. If you'd like me to explain more I'd love to but I don't think today's a good day for that," I said as I regained my composure and rested my head on Alex's shoulder, who herself was trying to refrain from laughter as she had caught on to why I thought him saying that was so funny.
"I'm guessing by Alex's expression that this is some kind of an inside joke, and yes, another day I'd love for you to explain it. However, I think we're getting a little off track, I have a question for you if you'll indulge me."
"Of course, what's on your mind?"
"You do understand what your new position of Luna entails, correct?"
"I have a general idea of what the term means, but no, I do not entirely understand it. I'm sure however that you'd explain it to me, but I would like to point out that I have no intention of changing my lifestyle to fit this title."
"We wouldn't expect you to, as being a Luna isn't so much about how you live your life, and more so about how your lifestyle blends with Alex's now that she's marked you as hers. She's clued us in, at least a little bit, about your lifestyle and what you do for a living; While I can admire your attitude when it comes to family, you would have to be a bit more careful in your actions once the ceremony is over, at least at home. Being a Luna is about being a role model for everyone in the pack, just as much as it is being Alex's other half."
"That part I understand, Alex explained that one night when I was on a walk and she found me."
"More like had to hunt you, I asked Nicki and she said you weren't home and I had to chase you down just to find out where you'd ran off to," Alex said through a chuckle, pulling me in closer before kissing my forehead, which caused an 'Error 404' moment.
"What was that?!"
"Affection."
"It's disgusting...give me more," I said before laughing and sitting back up, "Is there anything else you wanted to talk about, Pete?"
"Not anymore, I was going to bring up my concerns regarding the two of you, but it's clear to me that neither of you would ever want to bring harm to one another. Jacke, my friend, if you want to continue this conversation later on in the week, feel free to come and find me, but until then I assume that Alex wants to take you away, conversation wasn't really her cup of tea."
"Thank you, Uncle, I'll make sure he comes back to you later this week to continue y'alls conversation but you're right, I want to show him the ins and outs of the packhouse," She said before standing up and grabbing my hand to show me around the place, "It's not finished yet as we're still working on moving people in, getting our stuff put in place, and more, but there's a lot to this place. I didn't really live in the original packhouse, I couldn't bear too with the memories of my parents, but with rebuilding it those memories have more or less faded."
"Making room in your head for memories with me, huh?"
"Who else would I be making room for, Pup?" She said with a wink as we walked down the stairs to the basement floor, and sure enough, at the end of the hallway stood the trap door that led underneath it all, "I made sure they didn't touch this part so that you could do whatever you wish with it."
"After we take care of Jake's ashes, I think I just might have an idea for what to make with this room so that it doesn't just sit here collecting dust, you know, make it worth the memories."
