Alexis' POV
After the longest day that we have had yet, we had finally finished up with all the pack business we had on our 'to do' list, including but not limited to: Inventory stock taking at the general store, the judgment of a few rogues who had requested refuge, and answering a seemingly infinite number of questions about Jacke from our pack. Overall, the day wasn't too bad, just tiring as for every task that we completed we had half a dozen questions to answer about our mate.
'Are you sure he's your mate?'
'What happens if he loses his temper towards the pack?'
'Is he safe to have here? Or are you only saying he's safe to be here because he's your mate?'
These questions and more had made me livid and wanting to rip limb from limb, but I couldn't for obvious reasons. I wasn't going to let their curiosities bring me down, no matter how irritated it made me, he was ours from start to end and as much as we would be there for him, we knew he would be there for us. After finishing the last paper on our desk, Alex stood up and gathered a quick pair of clothes to wear after we got to the park that we had chosen. Jack knew where to go and would drive Jake there, but we were going to run to burn off some steam.
"Ready, Alexis?"
'I've been ready all fucking day, let's go find him..'
After I said that, Alex threw the bag over her shoulder and walked outside before staring up at the moon, and allowing me to come through. I shook my fur and howled as I lept off the patio and started running full speed in the direction of a park south of my packhouse. As I ran I could feel the wind blowing through my fur, reminding me of the freedom we felt whenever we got time for ourselves away from our responsibilities to our family and friends; Before long I was sitting at the top of a trail, and I shifted back to our human form, and changed into the clothes in the bag Alexandria had packed. Heading down the path, we took a seat at the bench adjacent to the serpent statue that sat in the middle of the lake, I remembered coming down here as a kid: whenever we were feeling depressed we would sit down on the stones surrounding the statue and stare at our reflection, remembering that we were alpha. Other wolves tried to bring us down to their level, but we didn't let them, we weren't gifted our title just by blood, we earned it by shutting down anyone who tried to deny our birthright. We were literally born to lead our pack to future glory, and then pass the torch unto one of our children, but that was thinking a little far into the future.
Whenever we were having a day when we just wanted to give up, we would flick a coin into the lake under the light of the moon and ask for our mate to find us, to be gifted to us as a sweet and innocent boy who wouldn't hurt our heart; In a way, I guess we got what we wanted, even if Jacke was nowhere near innocent. He was a boy who had been beaten and bloodied by a twisted man and brought back by a wicked will to live, and now he was ours even if he was out of our grasp of control.
"Looking for someone?"
Jacke's POV
We arrived at the park half an hour past nine, and as we walked down the path toward the lake and looked over to see Alex sitting at the serpent statue. This brought a stupid-looking grin to our faces, the park we were at was somewhere Jake used to go as a kid, not by choice mind you. His father had what we collectively called: PGS or Pokemon Go Syndrome, a debilitating condition in which a 40 to 50-year-old person mindlessly walks through a park hunting digital monsters, to fit in with the "cool kids". We laughed a cold laugh at that memory, the old man was a shithead even if he was trying his hardest, being a single parent was difficult but hiding from your past behind alcohol was something we could not forgive.
We walked the path towards the statue and walked the stones toward where Alex was sitting.
"Looking for someone?" We asked, and if it wasn't for the numerous fights we had been in, probably would've been knocked into the water by Alex swinging her legs behind her in an effort to sweep us from under our feet. She stood up and turned to face us, only to realize it was us, and relaxed almost instantly.
"Sit down with us, pup," She said before sitting back down on the stone and looking out over the lake. We took a seat on the stone next to her and laid our head on her shoulder, trying to ease the tension she obviously had after today, not that we could blame her.
"Long day, hun? I know that the stuff with Gloria is probably concerning, but we do-" And that's as far as we got before she grabbed the collar of our hoodie, and pulled us into a kiss, and it felt so right. It wasn't long, but it didn't matter because those 10 seconds of bliss, made the centuries of war and chaos melt away; All of the years of pent up rage, desire to maim and destroy, to ruin and extinct those who wronged us, all of it melted away as Alex explored our mouth. She forced her way in, in a 'take no prisoners' type of way and it took every fiber of our being not to whimper before her. As she pulled away, it took us a minute to realize what had just happened, and by the time we did Alex had a stupid-looking grin on her face as well.
"Your eyes are beautiful, love, they glow like the fire I feel for you."
"We feel the same way, Alex, would you have us by your side? For now at the very least?"
"Not for now, little one, I'm keeping you for all of eternity. Even if I have to fight death itself to do it."
