Jake's POV
As we made our way up to the On The Border near the mall, I could smell the food from a mile away, and it was just as alluring as the first time, the second time...ah hell, every time that we came here. It was a chain restaurant but the atmosphere of this one was just so soothing that we didn't really care about how the people acted, as we mostly just took to ourselves.
"Nervous about tonight?"
"Am I not always nervous when it comes to Alex? I'm a submissive, yet I carry myself as if I'm a switch or a dom, I enjoy letting her be the one in charge even when I'm so used to being the one in charge because of our family."
"That's understandable man, but when it comes to relationships, especially your mate, you have to be able to draw a line between the two and when to keep them separate and when to join the two."
"Fair enough," I said as we pulled up to our spot, getting out of the car, we stepped towards the door and waited for someone to take us to a booth, "What am I so worried about anyway, what's the worse that can happen? I mean, aside from the soul-crushing pain of heartbreak."
"Motherfucker, you have no soul, I supplemented that shit the day you died, and have I ever left you high and dry?"
"Touche," I said as a woman in her mid to late 20s came up and brought us to a booth, leaving us with the menus and time to choose, even if I chose before we even got here.
"Another thing, Alex is your mate, she was made FOR you. In essence, she's going to be there for you when no one else would be, now, she may want to fuck you senseless, but that's neither here nor there."
"Jack!!" I said, trying to hide the blush that was oh so painfully obvious, I hated it when I blushed because people said it was cute, but when your entire existence revolves around being terrifying, it's hard to be scary when people think you're cute.
Jack's POV
"Can I get you, gentlemen, something to start with? Maybe some drinks, or an appetizer or two?"
"Yeah, I'll just have a Corona lite, and Jake, what do you want?"
"I'll have a Cherry Coke with a large serving of Guac and Chips," He said from behind his menu, he may look the part of an innocent-looking young adult, but I knew better than to think that of him. We'd done so many jobs together, I've seen him at his best and worst, he was a man who would listen to the sounds of a rapist being tortured to sleep; Yet he was also the kind of man who would cry, if I even thought about being mean to Jameson, he's a hellhound and yet Jakey acts as if a couple mean words and a thwack on the head would be enough to kill the poor thing.
"I'll get that back to the kitchen, and I'll be back to get your Entree orders," The woman said as she left our table to continue onward, I watched for a little bit. Not because I'm a creep, no, it's more of that I didn't like the vibe I got from her. It was like she was Jakey, but as a woman, and that made me feel uneasy.
"You okay, Jack?"
"Yeah, yeah. Imma go ask the waitress something, stay here a second," I said as I got up from the booth and followed after her. When she got done at the kitchen window but didn't seem shocked to see me behind her, red flag 1.
"Can I help you, sir?"
"Maybe, I would just ask you your name, the vibes I got from you were a little offputting and I don't want my buddy to have a panic attack again."
"Oh, of course, my apologies, My name is Gloria. Ya know, like the Green Day song?"
"You know, I've heard the song, and the name before. I think I remember a bit about you, but not enough to feel uneasy. I'm sorry, but thank you for telling me," I said before heading back to the booth, to notice Jake was watching the whole time.
"What's up, Lil dude?"
"Who is she?"
"Let's just say she's the soulmate of an Ancient friend of ours."
"M? Or W?"
"Yes and no, we'll talk later. You feeling okay?"
"I think I need to step outside for a bit, I'll be back."
"Alright man, just don't stress yourself out, I don't need you having another panic attack at the disco."
"That was bad," He said as he got up from the booth and headed outside.
Jake's POV
What the fuck is wrong with me?! Why am I being so damn paranoid when there's nothing going on?? I kept thinking about the waitress, and how she gave Jack a bad vibe, and yet when he got back he seemed like nothing happened and that he just made a mistake. Jack doesn't make mistakes, mistakes make him. I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't notice people entering or leaving the restaurant or even the sound of footsteps approaching.
"Hey, love, something on your mind?"
I looked up, and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw Alex standing in front of me, smirking as if she just found her prize after a long day.
"H-hey Alex, how's it going?"
"Well, I get to see you before 9, so I'd say it's going pretty well," She said with a wink, and all of a sudden, my nerves weren't running wild anymore and I was calmed down to the point where all I could focus on was her...fucking hell, I need help.
