"This guy…" Vega thought to herself.
"I'm not fighting anything till we find her. That's just how it's gonna be." Martyr said, continuing to tread through the forest rather than fighting the small blue dragon in the lake.
"Plus, that guy looked like he was resting. I don't wanna bother him." He said like he was some little kid.
"Aight, I get it. Just find her then." Vega was getting so annoyed at him. They could've easily avoided this situation if it were for his dumb idea to leave her alone for a second.
The two of them woke up to nymph's around them and Vega had to save Martyr from getting eaten.
Martyr then had the bright idea to leave her for a second so they could take out the rest of the nymphs in the forest rather than wait for them to come to them.
Stupid past Vega agreed because it was like six and the morning and she wasn't thinking straight.
And here they were.
How come the two contestants with the most potential have to be this immature?
"Well I guess that's why you gotta train them, 'Daughter of Artemis'. Ugh, it's practically a Girl Scout club."
The 'Huntresses of Artemis' was still something she was still trying to process to this day. Why did her parents make her do that for 5 years? She didn't know either.
Vega wasn't even the daughter of Artemis, she was a million generations down from her, they practically weren't even related.
"Artemis probably wasn't even black. Nobody who lived on Borealis a thousand years ago was. But… as different as we may be… she did have a pretty sick bow." Vega held out Khryselakatos. The bow was the only reason why she didn't publicly talk about how she hated being her descendant.
Plus Lokheira? The endless quiver? It was worth the small annoyance.
Speaking of annoyances…
"I hope you realize that you won't get an endorsement if you don't fight." She reminded him.
"Again, I'd rather spend time trying to find Vanagloria than fighting for an endorsement. She's more important." Martyr said, continuing to lead her down a path she had been down countless times.
"What a simp." Vega thought.
Martyr was kinda cute, but honestly when he said stuff like that it made him look like such a bitch. It was pretty funny.
He probably felt like a big guy, leading the forest champion through the Draconic Rainforest. Vega could tell him that she had seen every inch of this place, but she was trying to train him to be a big strong hero to fight against. As much as she wanted to embarrass him, it was better if she let him do his thing.
Who knew? Maybe one day he would be able to beat her in a fight.
"Aight then, you do you buddy. But I'm only staying until Saturday night. I gotta toddler I have to take care of." Vega said, making Martyr puff out a little smoke out of his nose.
Martyr sighed and came back with a calmer smile. "Will I get to meet this little girl after this?"
"I mean, if I'm gonna be training you all for Flugel, I'll be stopping by your house every once in a while. I'll bring Willow with me one of those days."
"Is she being taken care of right now?" Martyr looked worried.
"No, I left her alone."
"Wait really?"
"No dumbass, Willow is with my parents right now. I would never leave that girl alone." Vega chuckled. It was fun to tease him, the fire guy was really gullible.
"I'm just making sure." Martyr didn't seem as bothered as usual.
"C'mon man, you were raised by a single mom. You know our kid is more important than anything else."
"True."
Vega did miss Willow.
This was her first time leaving her alone for more than three days. Vega never usually let her duties as champion get in the way of her and her little girl, but this was "Necessary if she wanted to keep her job" according to Nova.
Honestly, she just wanted to leave this forest. This was practically her safe space from her family growing up, she had already seen everything. She had visited every town, climbed every mountain, slept in every cave, slayed almost every type of dragon, eaten every fruit and berry and explored just about every temple.
Vega hoped this annoying lightning girl of his would just drop from the sky so she could go back home.
"Woah check out that dragon!" Martyr pointed up to the sky in excitement.
"Oh I know that one. I fought him years ago. He was one of the only dragons that I couldn't beat. I've been looking for him for ages." Vega reminisced on the good old times.
"He's massive." Martyr marveled as the wyvern glided through the island.
"Yeah he's an alpha wyvern. I named him greyscale." Vega looked at the floating island it had taken off from. A group of islands she had only explored briefly.
"Why that name?"
"Cause he has greyscales obviou…"
Vega was interpreted as the entire valley lit up in silence.
A colossal bolt of lightning had gone straight through the greyscale's wing. It shot from one side of the sky to the other, way out of Vega's vision.
Martyr turned towards her with his mouth wide open.
"Holy shit! Did yo…"
'BOOOOOOOOOOOOM'
A wave of air hit Vega's face full force, making her swallow an unneeded amount of dust.
Greyscale's screams echoed throughout the sky as it plummeted to the ground.
"It's her!" Martyr immediately started sprinting towards the island where the lightning came from.
Vega started following him, at a slightly slower pace. "How did she do that?"
'DOOOOOM'
An earthquake shook the ground as Greyscale hit the ground about a mile behind them.
Chills went down Vega's back at the thought of Vanagloria's potential. Taking out an alpha wyvern was a massive feat.
Worthy of an endorsement.
As they got closer to the island, she noticed a smoke cloud rising up from behind a giant naga statue.
"No way."
Vega knew that town of naga's. They hunted humans, she had gotten herself stuck in there once before. Vega had to fight some dude in a 1 v 1 just so she wouldn't have to fight her way out. She ended up saving him from execution and making out with him in a cave after. What a good memory.
"Vega!" Martyr stopped in his tracks, almost making her bump into him.
"What?!" Vega said, annoyed he had interrupted her memory.
"Can you get up there? Cause I know I can, I don't kn…"
"Yes I can get up there, hurry up and do it yourself."
Vega turned around and concentrated some energy into the ground. In one quick motion she had full control over her whole surroundings.
There were so many options, but Vega settled with the easiest one. Bending a tree back all the way back to the ground with her power, she hopped up on it and let go of her elemental grip.
As she soared through the air, Vega pointed her hand towards the island and shot out a vine.
It attached instantly to another vine already hanging out the island and she grabbed on.
She used it to swing herself onto the island, gracefully landing on the grass without much of a sound.
Martyr landed next to her, burning up the grass next to her from his rocket boots.
He didn't even stop to talk to Vega and started walking around the temple.
Vega had seen this temple before. She hadn't explored it fully because she couldn't figure out how to open it. She only remembered going down a hallway and getting disappointed to only find somebody's signature.
"Gloria?" Vega heard Martyr say.
She looked over to find a very disoriented Vanagloria slowly getting up from the ground.
The lightning girl looked completely drained and beat up. She was fully pale and had scars all over her.
Vega had expected this. The first night she spent in the Draconic rainforest looked similar to this.
Vega was surprised to see her satchel filled with creatures though. A tiny crocodile was poking its head out alongside…
A baby wyvern…
"This explains everything."
Vega would be lying if she said she never attempted getting a dragon of her own.
She remembered finding a pretty blue drake on her journeys. Although she had to leave it in the jungle because it was too big to hide in her house.
Polaris, she named it.
Vega used to find him out in the wild and get super emotional every time they reunited. They would go on small adventures until Vega had to leave to go back home.
It had been years since she had seen that dragon.
Next time Vega saw him, she was gonna take him home for sure. He would make a good friend for Willow for sure.
It looked like Vanagloria was successful in her attempt though. Greyscale was most likely this whelp's parent because…
Well…
It had air powers just like its father.
Even better…
It seemed to have lightning powers.
