Chapter 20 - Lili's Rejected Request

"Good!" Nik said, which stunned Beau and Lili.

"Nik! What's up with you? How is she going to manage?" Beau burst out. He looked fed up with the unnecessary and ridiculous support that Niklaus was showing Lili. This was not what he imagined when his friend decided to get married. Obviously, it was also not the expected reaction from Liliya. He thought that Lili could be sad and dull because it was a forced marriage.

He at least expected to make a fuss, act arrogant, be repulsive and annoying. But weirdly, she was calm and accepted the situation quite fast. Her quick adaptability raised questions in him and her coolness on knowing about the mafia confirmed the doubt. He was sure that Liliya was up to something. How could anyone be relaxed, with these many terrible events going around?

"Who said that she will look after? She will be the acting CEO and her father, as usual, will be working." Nik answered and gazed at Lili, "It's your turn to tell me why you involved Meyers in this?"

"Well… the shareholders weren't confident in me, but you want me as CEO. So, to gain their confidence and bring Patrick into the picture, I had to do it." She mumbled, still confused by Niklaus' reaction. She was expecting a good amount of criticism. However, she was happy that Mr. Cooper just made her acting CEO without taking her words seriously.

'Good, that I can do my work without involving in all his stuff and business matters.' The only thing that Lili was expecting from the unexpected marriage was freedom and zero attachment.

She glanced outside and wondered where they were going again. Questioning that to the person beside her, will only give her a bitter answer. 'Why should I even talk to him?' she decided. "Beau!"

"What?" he responded with eyes piercing into her soul.

Lili felt like a cat caught her tongue. All the words that she wanted to say stopped at her throat.

"BEAU!!!" a roar came from her beside. "How long are you going to behave this way? Treat her just like how you treat me!"

Lili blinked her eyes to see the cold war between them. She sighed and got back to viewing the traffic. She felt she had no one with whom she would speak smoothly with. 'Hope I had my phone with me.' Her face scrunched up. She opened her eyes wide and rotated her eyeballs, not to allow any tears to form. 'Where's Bell? She is still in the city. Will she be waiting for me?'

"What do you want to ask him?" Niklaus asked in a faint voice.

Lili turned to him to face his hazel eyes, which strangely gave her a warm and assuring vibe. She pursed her lips, gulped, and opened her mouth. "I want to go home and get my clothes and mobile phone." As she observed, his mouth twisted, and neck traced back.

"Beau, I want you to assign a driver and bodyguard for Liliya. She will be shopping today."

"I have my own clothes and phone. I don't need…" she paused, realizing that her decision or opinion was the least needed.

"After that, ask them to drop her at the hotel. I don't want any error in this." Nik stressed and his voice sounded more like a warning.

'Hotel?' Lili was puzzled. 'Hmm! Looks like I am not allowed to go to his house. Good for me! At least I can get some rest and think about my future.' The corner of her lips curled up. She was so happiness and excited to enjoy the freedom she was wishing for. She was least concerned about the reason he wasn't taking her to his home.

Soon the car halted, and the security opened Nik's door and ran again to open her door. Beau and Niklaus dashed into the office, with Beau briefing about the meeting.

'What should I do? Why are they rushing now? Can't they discuss that in the car itself?' She glanced around and noticed people's piercing looks and whispering mouths. 'Escape,' she thought to herself and hurried behind the two.

Both got in the lift, and so did Liliya. Seeing the way, they were whispering looking into the iPad, made Lili feel if she was the reason for not discussing in the car.

The lift stopped, both got out, and again Lili followed them. 'Ah!!! Until when am I going to them!'

"That's my room. Sit there for a bit!" Mr. Cooper finally talked to stop the little puppy from following them.

Lili nodded and got into the vast room, which was styled minimalistic. There was not much furniture- two cupboards, a rotating chair, a table with a computer and a six-feet sofa.

After a quick glance, she sat on the sofa and stretched out her legs to the front. She jiggled her foot and played with her fingers for a while. She nibbled her bottom lip, twitched her mouth, and turned to the glass on her left.

The feeling that she got the someone was watching her was indeed true. It wasn't just a pair of eyes. Tens of people were peeping into the room through the tiny spaces between the curtains. They seemed so involved in discussing and whispering among themselves that they didn't notice Lili looking at them.

Lili blew out her cheeks and stared at the empty chair in front of her. The situation was kind of uncomfortable for her. Her mind ran through several questions on what the staff might discuss about her -the reason for her marriage, her father selling her for money, a girl with no self-respect and blah! Blah!

After a few seconds, she glanced at the glass and was stunned to see about fifty people pushing and stamping each other, while trying their best to see from the countable tiny spaces between the curtains.

She appeared astonished to see the level of curiosity. She smiled, stood up and walked out elegantly.

The office turned chaotic with people running and some acting as if talking about work.

"Excuse me! Can I have your attention?" Lili shouted at the top of her voice.
