Ellis, an 18 year old college school student, woke up to the sound of the alarm on his phone. He stopped the alarm and laid there, dreading going to his classes. After lying there for a bit, he got up and got dressed in black pants, a green hoodie and white shoes. He looked in the mirror after brushing his teeth and sighed.
"I'm definitely not ready for today..." he said, pulling his hood over his head.
Ellis grabbed his bag, left his dorm, and headed to class.
It was the beginning of autumn. The leaves on the trees we're starting to change into a wide range of reds, oranges, and yellows. The sky was cloudy and gray. For someone who didn't want to wake up in the morning, this only made the feeling worse. He walked into the building where his class was. The halls were bustling with students heading to their classes. Ellis tried to get past all of them quickly to avoid any possible interaction. He made it to the classroom. Before he could grab the doorknob. Someone accidentally shoved him but didn't notice. He suddenly fell through the door as if the door was made of a liquid substance. He was surrounded by complete darkness, floating and wondering what had just happened and where he was. There didn't seem to be an up or down, left or right, forward or back. It was an empty, dark void.
"What the hell just happened? How did I even get here?"
Eventually, he saw a blue light. His body seemed to be slowly falling towards it. His body turned to where his head faced the light. He got closer and closer. Eventually, the light became water. This confused him even more. He emerged from the water. Suddenly, he was floating in a small pond. He quickly swam to land and sat there, taking in his new surroundings. He was in a forest, at night. Glowing mushrooms and fireflies gave a bit of light, most of it coming from the crescent moon in the sky.
"I must be dreaming..." Ellis said in disbelief. "What is this place?"
He stood up and walked around the forest. He came across a few strange creatures. Fairy-like creatures, beings that resembled trolls, and even butterflies that are larger than usual. He thought it was all amazing but a bit scary at the same time. He still had to figure out how to get back home. As he walked, he began to feel something watching him. "Man, this forest is kinda creepy now..." he said as he looked around. The feeling grew stronger. Something was getting close. The sudden sound of rustling scared him, prompting him to start running. His heart began to race as he noticed he was being chased by a large winged figure. The figure appeared in front of him, causing him to fall backwards with a shriek. Ellis started backing up while still on the ground as the figure got closer. The figure appeared to be male. He was tall, about 6 feet high. He was also quite handsome, having long dark brown hair, a muscular build with big black wings, pointed ears, and a tear-shaped gem in the middle of his forehead. His nails were black and his facial hair was neat and wasn't that long. His piercing yellow eyes glowed in the night. He wore simple clothing, something a man in medieval times would wear, not a very wealthy man however. Ellis moved his jet-black dreads out of his face to get a better look at the menacing being. Their eyes met and they stared at each other for a while until the winged man began to speak.
"You don't belong to this world, do you?" he asked, kneeling down.
"No... I don't even know where I am." Ellis responded. All he wanted to do was wake up from what seemed to be a weird dream.
"Do you want to leave?"
"Of course I do. What kind of question is that?"
"You can't leave on your own. I do know a way you can leave, though. By the way, I'm Jacliros. But, I'm usually called Jack, if you were wondering." the winged man said, still keeping heavy eye contact, it started to make Ellis a bit uncomfortable.
"Well, I wasn't... But... I'm Ellis."
"Ellis..." Jack said as if pondering something.
"Yeah... So, how do I get home?" Ellis asked, seeming quite impatient.
"Right..." Jack materializes an apple into his hand and hands it to Ellis. "Eat this."
"It's... Purple?"
"It's a special apple that will let you go home. But..." Jack said as Ellis quickly took a bite.
"But?" Ellis asked as he swallowed the part of the apple he bit off.
"It will make us connected, you will be my familiar. You'll be able to travel back and forth. You'll have to come back when I need you."
"W... what? No..."
"It's the only way. Plus, you've already taken a bite. The deal is sealed. You may go home now. See you soon, Ellis..."
"I... Wait—!" Ellis exclaimed as Jack snapped his fingers. He was back in his school, near the door he fell through. "What... the hell just happened? Was I imagining the whole thing? Yeah. That's probably it." he thought to himself.
