"Please, don't kill me."
Iris felt her whole body tremble and went weak the moment the vampire sunk his sharp fangs into her skin.
At first, she was scared that it would be too painful but she didn't expect this unexplainable dizziness that she was feeling. Was it because her blood was being sucked out or was it because the movement of his mouth on her skin sent shivers down her spine and brought her to a delirious delirium.
What is this, she thought to herself as she mumbled under her breath, "please."
She wasn't sure what she wanted to happen or what was happening, but she was scared. Why in the world she didn't want this annoying vampire to stop drinking her blood! She must have gone insane!
But then he did. And the moment he lifted his mouth away from her neck her body that was burning turned cold.
She blinked her eyes in confusion but before she could open her mouth to ask, she got swept off the floor by his strong arms and the annoying vampire carried and put her down on her bed ever so gently, fueling the confusion that she was feeling even more.
"You should gain more meat in your body. How are you going to feed me if you're all bones!" He said with a sneer as turned around after depositing her in the middle of the bed.
Iris felt a hollow feeling in her chest with the harsh tone of the annoying vampire. She followed him with her blurry sight as he entered the hole on the wall—hidden by a curtain across from her bed. When he disappeared, the emptiness in her heart intensified. The feeling was akin to being abandoned.
Her body, due to the loss of blood, felt heavy, and not long after the heaviness of her eyes won over and she fell asleep.
In her deep slumber, she didn't notice that Calixto didn't exactly go inside the dugout in the wall of the basement but stood still near the entrance and watched her sleep. And when he was sure that she wouldn't wake up from her slumber, he came back and sat back on her pink armchair that he dragged next to her bed to watch the fall and rise of her chest while she dozed in a dreamless sleep.
When Iris woke up, her body felt refreshed and her room was undisturbed but it has this lingering feeling that someone was in her personal space. The vibration of a sort that she couldn't really explain but left an impression that someone was with her through the night.
"Don't be ridiculous, Iris," she snapped at herself and got out of the bed to take a shower. When she dropped her clothes in front of the whole body mirror, she creased her brows. Her skin is glowing! Her blood was sucked out by the annoying vampire, she was expecting her skin to be dry and gaunt, and yet her skin never looked so hydrated and glowing like what she was seeing in the mirror right now.
She tilted her neck to the side to check the part of her neck where the vampire punctured and was surprised that she found no visible sign of being bitten. She ran her fingers on the length of her neck. She may not see any bites or bruises but the feeling that she got when the vampire sucked her skin was still fresh on her mind. That she spent the day, rubbing her neck and blushing like a fool.
Calixto had no idea what Iris was going through because it was his turn to sleep. When the sun broke on the horizon, he stood up from the armchair and reluctantly stepped away from Iris. He stared at her peacefully sleep the whole night, with questions running in his head but found no answer.
He was trying to think of a reason why his father poisoned him with the same blood that he only allowed him to drink. And why Fleur? Does he know that he was taking a fancy over Fleur? But then, even if his father knew about his growing feelings for Fleur, why in the world did his father think that the answer was to 'kill' him and let him sleep for five hundred years!
He has to find his family. Theo and his money-crazy family showed some videos of how vampires were viewed in this new world. He wasn't lying when he said that his kind was reduced to a kind of a joke and no longer feared.
He could not imagine the expression of his father if he knew that in this new world, their kind was reduced to a man who glistened like a diamond and that they could choose to have a conscience and drink animal blood instead.
Do these people have an idea of what would happen to their kind if they drink animal blood? Death would be sweeter than drinking animal blood if one stupid vampire would even think of drinking an animal's blood.
If a vampire would grow a moral structure and didn't want to kill, it was not a problem. They could drink from any human without killing them. Thus, drinking animal blood was the stupidest joke he had ever heard.
Drinking animal blood is painful. It gives them hives and other side effects that could last for days. And since their body could feel pain a hundred times over that of a mere mortal, drinking animal blood was not a popular choice.
His last thought before his eyes closed, for he can't fight the reaction of his body once the sun dominates the morning sky, was to find his family or anyone that could tell him what happened to his family and Fleur's family.
He still could not believe what Theo said. Truth to be told, he didn't trust anything that Theo and his family on the first floor said about his family. He needed to find them. He has to ask his father the reason why he poisoned him and why Iris who looked like Fleur was the one who woke him up from his slumber.
