In New York, Erica got all the fresh air she needed and walked to the room where they were Melissa was resting. She found Brown was already done with the interview and Melissa was dozing facing the other side.
She got on the bed and tucked behind her.
Melissa moved and turned to face her.
"I am sorry it took twelve years to find you," Erica said with teary eyes.
Melissa smiled, and held out her hand to stop the tears that were about to flood her little sister's face.
"I did not mean you," she whispered. "I was just angry at the stupid questions the officer kept asking me," she explained.
"No, you were right," Erica cried out. She felt like she had not done a good job or she was not looking in the right place. A small voice at the back of her head kept telling her that she had failed.
"Did you ever forget me?" Melissa asked.
Erica swallowed, wiping her tears.
"No, I never forgot you," she replied.
