Prince Rong actually couldn't quite understand it himself; he had always considered his aunt and cousin as his closest kin, not knowing when they began to change.

He didn't quite understand before and was unable to figure it out, but now he understood some of it, though he wished he did not.
He drew clear boundaries between his aunt and cousin in front of his father because he couldn't bear to watch his mother being dragged step by step into the abyss. He also knew that after taking this step, the relationships with everyone truly changed.
