Chereads / Calibre Prognosticatorum / Chapter 4 - 04 Disciple of Archimedes

Chapter 4 - 04 Disciple of Archimedes

BREeaaaAKKK!

All of a sudden, a distinct loud, breaking sound was heard amidst the howling siren - it sounded like metal plates straining from being bent.

The creature had just breached into the cryogenic room he was in previously!

A not-so-far-off guttural roar was heard outside before the same sound of solid metal being twisted was heard again.

F**k! I need to hurry! That f**ker is onto me!

A holographic progress bar was projected before Nuel's, who was already having his hands moving to a barely-discernible image in his mind, as he watched the crafting materials being processed, shaped and assembled gradually into a familiar form, simply using the unsophisticated pair of rusted pliers.

This is really like watching a movie, but instead, I could actually feel where my fingers are touching, and I can even move them out of the demo-ed movements, though that would slow down the progress bar.

_____

D*mn, a Unique Title so early on?!! And it's even a crafting one! First, the "Subject-23" Rare Title, now this?! Hehehe~ hahaHAHA...!!!

...I actually forgot all about the "Achievement System"!

In「 ex Umbrae Online 」, whenever one performs a special feat or achieves something near-impossible, such as in Nuel's case, crafted an item without a , the player may be be rewarded with bonus [Attributes] points, bonus , certain special <Skills> or <Abilities>, <Talent Trees>, items, etc.

That was the quickest method to make one's character stronger than others in the same level bracket.

The good-ol-way of grinding monsters daily for <XP> to raise one's [Class Level] was in fact, the most inefficient method one could possibly do in 「 ex Umbrae Online 」.

Which was why in the game there was a saying,

...only f**kers who exploit the system will be rewarded, huh? Whether it's here or there, the world doesn't really change I guess...

.....

Nuel left the room he had just looted and glanced at the [Main Story Mission's] timer - Duration left : (17m:41s).

A rescue point should be by the corridor bend ahead! The planted mine should be able to shave off one-third of the Shadow's HP stalking me...

KRriieeaAGHH!!!

Get f**ked!

Nuel, with the guillotine of death blowing gently at his neck, bolted through the echoey corridor, heading towards another objective point.

His baggy patient clothing - now its pockets filled with the items he looted - swayed and jiggled with the sound of metals.

His heart was thumping crazy out of fear, galloping in his rib-cages like some mad horse.

His breaths were short and the glucose in his blood was drying up faster than the adrenaline pumping - it was the fastest he had ever run in his entire life!

And he was smiling to every bit of it!

Nuel's [STA] -2.

「 ...just ... 」

Nuel's [STA] -2.

「 ...a little bit... 」

Nuel's [STA] -2.

「 ... more... 」

Nuel's [STA] -2.

「 Almost... 」

Nuel's [STA] -2.

「 ...there... 」

Nuel's [STA] -2.

At last, Nuel stood before a familiar but unfamiliar metal door.

He was gasping for air, and he was hunching over with his hands supporting him on his knees.

He reached out for the door keypad.

He inputted the sequence one key at a time.

...1-9-8-4-8-...and...-2-0-1-2...

Boom!

The creature had just burst out of his 'spawn' room as its steps could be heard scraping against the corridor floor far behind him.

F**K!

He willed his exhausted body to not falter.

His fingers trembled a bit, the sense of fear felt nothing like from the game.

The door before him slid open-

YEESSS!!!

Then he dashed inside and immediately press the close-door button.

The thick metallic door shut closed.

Nuel let out his withheld breath and slumped down to his knees.

F**k, that's close!

He took a glance over to the details of the [Main Story Mission] - Duration left : (13m:17s).

There was still so much time, enough time to let that Shadow monster to sniff around for his mental presence, and pinpoint onto his location!

I hope my trace mental presence would be able to lure it into the surprise I left there. Heeheehee...

...oh, I f**king need that last quick, only then I'd have any chance against that f**ker. Oh, I need another charge pack too.

Nuel sprinted to the only computer terminal in the cryogenic room, which shared the same layout as his spawn room.

Behind him by the walls were three cryogenic pods, where he could sense only one of them were still alive, a repeat to his situation earlier.

He navigated through the

promptly and dove inside into the many folders before scanning through which of the log.txt files of the surviving test subject he needed to trigger progress in the [Hidden Mission].

"Log serial number 2097CI-099. Facility, Sector Thacon Epsilon, Ryvius Psiobiology Research Facility. Date, September 12th, 2099. Entry, Subject-099 was successfully put into cryogenic sleep. Biological and neural signals within nominal margins. Starting irradiation of hyperhedral polycrystalline silicon, sequence-ω176514. Duration till critical irradiation, 851471999.35 seconds..."
