The moon hung high in the ink-black sky, casting an eerie glow over the dense forest surrounding the pack lands. The scent of damp earth mingled with the musk of the pack as if nature itself held its breath in anticipation.
The hunters were at our borders, and the future of this pack rested in our hands. The magic that flowed here was strong, created from remnants of the powers my mother once possessed. But there was only so much protection it would give us and there was no telling what tactics the hunters had that could potentially destroy everything.
Pollux stood beside me, his gaze fixed on the horizon where danger lurked within the shadows just outside of the barrier to our lands. His broad shoulders were tense, excluding an air of command over his warriors. Fierce determination burned in his onyx eyes, life I hadn't seen in him in too long. He may be a lot of things, but right now, Pollux was everything an Alpha should be.
