"You did a good job today Zeak, We're one step closer to finding out the serum."
A tall bald man with a lab coat tilted down his glasses as he bent down to look at the computer screen Zeak was working on.
Zeak was only 15 at the time but proved that e was already one of the top minds in the city. The project he was working on was to figure out how to turn people with abilities into regular humans.
This has been an ongoing project since the day people with abilities came to fruition.
"So, how close am I to getting in Dr.Greeves?"
"I'll say if you're not in by the end of the month I'll be dead from shock" Dr. Greeves let with a smile encouraging Zeak not to worry.
Zeak was erupting with joy on the inside but he remained neutral as if he expected that answer, he learned when people don't know what makes you happy they can't use it against you.
Zeaks has seen it plenty of times with the people that he worked with.
Zeak wanted to get into The Academy.
The Academy has openings every two years and only accepts three students out of thousands that apply. The people that usually get accepted later on discover new things about the world we live in or go on to make groundbreaking technology.
With the doctor's last words he departed and left Zeak to continue on. The lab he was in was the size of a classroom with all-white accents. In the room were 4 desks and Zeak shuffled two of them around to make one long desk. The laptop Zeak was working on had formulas of different elements he had to combine to get his serum but at this point, there was still something Zeak was missing and he was having a hard time figuring out what it was.
"So I'm guessing I'm a guaranteed slot if I can figure out this damn serum," Zeak said inwardly.
In the midst of his thoughts the lab door opened up and it was someone Zeak was familiar with already, it was a short blonde with glasses and had a labcoat that seemed more like a dress on her with how close it was to the floor.
"Reyna perfect timing, maybe you can give me some fresh ideas on the project I'm working on"
"Okay but I have my own project I'm working on as well," Reyna said as she went around the table to look at Zeaks computer.
After a few seconds, Reyna's eyes went from nonchalant to it being riddled with excitement as what Zeak was doing was definitely groundbreaking, after a few minutes of her looking over everything she stared at Zeak with a blank expression as if she was at a loss of words.
"Oh my..... Have you shown Dr.Greeves already?"
"Yes, I have," Zeak said with a large smile on his face.
"Well, what did he say? From what I can tell You're missing an element somewhere."
"He said I'm on the right path but you're exactly right I'm missing an element I don't know where I can find it but I know what I need in it." As Zeak said that he grabbed a piece of paper and wrote the components he'll need in the element.
When he was done he showed Reyna as she grabbed it from him and stared at it for a few moments.
"Uhm oddly enough I think I've seen this before but I think it was when I went down to the freezer on the bottom floor. It looks like you need a living micro-organism too," Reyna said with a curious look on her face.
"The freezer? what were you doing down there? and yeah that's part of the magic to make the serum work" Zeak said with a smug look.
"Yeah yeah whatever, but I was looking for some cells for my project"
"Cells? Hee, what are you doing this year for your project?"
"Well it's not as ambitious as yours but it's still up there, I'm learning how to make perfect clones," she said with a proud smile.
"Alright you can tell me about it while we head down to the freezer," Zeak said as he got up and headed towards the door only to wait on Reyna to catch up as she was still slow at what was going on.
"When I say perfect clones I mean everything perfect, to copying the person's memories and powers. The original one won't even tell the difference apart from themselves. I thought it was quite genius until I saw yours."
"It does sound good, if you perfect it you will be one of the richest in the world for all the top people would just put clones in their place."
"I guess you're right, but looks like we're here," Reyna said as they reached a metal sliding door that read "freezer" above it. There was a keypad on the door but since none of them have clearance to go in and out as they please they needed permission to be in there.
Reyna walked up to the pad and type the code for the administrator.
After a few seconds, the speaker above the keypad became active, "State your business," a middle-aged man answered the call.
Reyna looked over to Zeak to answer for it was him that really needed to get in the freezer.
"Oh hey, I was trying to look for some elements that might help me with my project."
"State your name and what project you're working on," The man later said as he was heard typing away in the background.
"My name is Zeak Unis and I'm working on a project to get accepted into the academy"
After a few more seconds, "Permission granted, you must log in all material researched or taken while in the freezer, the coats are on your left and don't stay longer than twenty minutes, we don't want to send a team down there to save you from freezing to death, so make it an easy day for us ehh kid."
"Alright, I'll be quick" as he looked over the Reyna to follow along. The freezer door opened and Zeaks teeth started to chatter a little just from the residual cold air coming out. They quickly went inside and grabbed the coats. After grabbing the coats they walked over to a touchpad that lets you type what you're looking for and it'll bring it to you.
The freezer resembled a dry cleaner but of course much bigger and clothes arent being hung up but different crates and tubes holding different elements scientists would need.
"So just type what you're looking for like you did on that paper and see what pops up" Reyna suggested as she saw Zeak pondering on what to type on the pad.
After hearing her words Zeak went ahead and typed what he had exactly in mind and when he w was done he press enter and to his surprise, the machine started moving to bring different elements in front of them before moving away until it finally stopped to bring Zeak what he asked for.
"What the hell is that?" Reyna said with a disgusted face.
"I don't know but it must be what I'm looking for," as he got closer he reached down in the box and pulled out a medium size tube that had black sludge.
"Hopefully this is all I need to make the serum work," Zeak said with glee on his face for he thought he finally found the answer he was looking for.
Little did he know he would have more questions awaiting him in the future
