Wayne Woke up the next day ready to go out and meet Duggar, it was seven in the morning, so he headed outside after taking a shower and getting dressed in all-black fitness attire. He pulled out his phone to look for the invitation that Duggar sent him, after a few seconds, he was able to find it, and the phone pulled out GPS on where to go.
A half hour had passed until Wayne finally reached the end of the GPS it looked like the old Basketball arena, but it was much bigger. Wayne walked up to the door, noticing it was locked then the next second, a man appeared next to Wayne with his back against the wall and arms crossed. Wayne was startled by the sudden appearance of him, but he managed to keep his composure.
"You have an invitation to be here so damn early?" the man said in annoyance.
Wayne quickly showed him the invitation, after the man scanned the phone for a few moments, he went into his pocket and pulled out a device with a few buttons, he then pressed a few buttons in rapid succession, and then the door clicked open.
Wayne pulled the door and went inside to see a few people inside already, some people were flying while others were walking around with papers in their hands. Wayne took a second to look at his surroundings, and if he could describe the interior, it reminded him of a bee hive with pockets of offices everywhere inside, high and low, with the color being light blue throughout.
Wayne didn't see a desk or anything to help him to know where to go, so he just called Duggar to let him know where he was at.
"Hello"
"Hey, I'm here in the lobby, what should I do?"
"Ohh, your thirty minutes early, like to be punctual, I see. Give me a few moments I'll have someone escort you."
And with that, Duggar hung up, leaving Wayne to stand there for a few minutes until he saw a female with red hair that looked like she was dressed for a safari with a tan button-down shirt and short khaki pants.
"You must be NightFall, he said you would look like a loner," she said with a chuckle.
"Yeah, and you must be..?"
"Rocky! nice to meet ya, now follow me."
"So are you part of his team as well?" Wayne asked as he followed behind her.
"Yeah, there's seven of us, including Duggar, so if you were to join, you'd be number eight," Rocky said with a smile.
"You seem happy for me to join," Wayne said with raised his eyebrows.
"Well, I wouldn't mind some eye candy," she looked back and gave a wink making Wayne blush quickly, thinking of something to change the subject.
"So uh, where are we going?" Wayne asked with a nervous smile.
"The VR station, that's where your assessment is being held."
"VR? how is that supposed to test my strength?"
"You'll see," Rocky said with a smirk, and for the rest of the walk, she didn't say anything until they reached a red double door with window panels where you could see that it was fairly dim inside.
"NightFall! What's up? I'm sure Rocky didn't cause too much trouble," Duggar said as Wayne and Rocky entered the room.
Wayne saw a few chairs surrounding a circular projector in the middle when he walked in, and he went to Duggar for a handshake.
"Thanks for the opportunity," Wayne said as they shook hands.
"You earned it, if you can push yourself, I can see you passing this test."
"What is the test anyway?" Wayne asked as Duggar walked him around the VR station.
"Well, honestly, you're going to be a first on our updated version," Duggar said with a wry smile.
"Updated version what's so different?"
"Well, the Seventh Circle put a lot of emphasis on getting rid of these monsters, so now they only want people who can kill them to join us. So, in short, you'll be fighting those beasts as your test, the requirement needs you to reach level four to pass, anything past that might merit a surprise depending on how far you go."
Wayne was stunned to hear the test, but he quickly remembered the last time he fought one, he had just fought against a group of people.
"Level Four? I think that's doable," Wayne said inwardly with a smirk showing on his face.
"So, have you guys tried it, and if so, who got the highest?" Wayne asked as they stopped in front of a chair with a helmet on the top by the headrest.
"Yeah, we have, and well, I did, of course, with Level Seven," Duggar said with a proud grin.
"Alright, just sit right here and let the chair do its thing, don't try to fight the feeling."
Wayne looked at Duggar with a weird look on his face as he said that but ultimately went into the chair. When he sat down, the helmet slid down on his head, and the seat reclined. Wayne could feel a tugging on his body as if gravity was pushing him down, Wayne figured this was the feeling he shouldn't fight, and then the next second, a bright white room enveloped him with the surroundings turning into a lush field in the daytime with farmhouses in the distance.
Wayne was wondering why he was there, and the next second, he felt constant trembling under his feet as if a stampede was running towards him.
[Shadow Void]
He quickly used his ability to get some distance to see what was going on.
After a few seconds, Wayne spotted a beast that wasn't as tall as the last one he saw. This one was seven feet tall and had a rounded body and sharp teeth.
Wayne used his speed to run toward the beast, and within a few seconds, Wayne combined his speed and power to blow a hole right through the beast.
Wayne had a smile on his face with the blood still dripping from his body, he didn't think the VR would feel so real, but he was just happy to know he could let loose with no consequences.
When Wayne was done, the surroundings changed again into a village on the side of a volcano, he quickly tried to catch his bearings to see what was happening. At that moment, he could hear screaming coming from a distance.
He followed the noise to find the same beast, but now there were three of them.
Wayne just grinned and began his attack.
