Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Arachne

"F#ck I hate spiders." Elijah cursed out loud which caused a cruel reaction from the monsters.

Elijah sidestepped and managed to avoid the attack. He slammed his fist at the spider's lower body which disbalanced it for a second but it was enough time for Olivia to leap forward and decapitate the monster.

There were a total of 30 statues and all of them were now attacking the duo. Olivia activated one of her skills which covered her sword in a purple aura, making it twice as sharp as before.

"Haaaaah!" Olivia swung her sword and released a purple wave which hit two of the hybrid monsters.

The other hybrids were distracted by Olivia's attack and Elijah used this chance to land a roundhouse kick on one of them.

He quickly leaped forward and closed both of his hands to shape it like a spearhead. His hands Pierced through the tough exoskeleton of the monster.

Olivia kept on releasing purple waves from her sword and also summoned 10 undead creatures.

The undead creatures looked like lions which had purple fire as their mane and half rotten body. Their eyes were glowing with the same colour. The undead squad chose a monster of their own which allowed Elijah and Olivia to have some free time and look towards Ryan but what they saw left them shocked.

Varied elements were blocking any escape path for Arachne which forced her to stay within Ryan's range. Although Arachne was somewhat restricted, her movements were fast and smooth making her a hard target to harm.

Everytime an attack neared Arachne, her body twisted and turned to avoid the attacks with minimum movements. Every veteran fighter is aware of the fact that the less you move, the more you conserve your stamina.

But not even elites can copy what Arachne was doing, her fighting style allowed her to use every part of her body to make acute moves which were elegant yet deadly at the same time.

"Can't catch me? Cutie!" Arachne smiled mischievously as her nails elongated and turned hard like metal spikes.

"You wish." Ryan smirked before he slashed her mouth to stop her from talking.

"Tsk tsk that's not something you do to a lady." She said after the mouth healed back to normal.

"Her healing is strong but how can someone like her come here?" Umbra was puzzled by this because beings who are higher than Ex rank cannot step on Earth.

Ryan was able to enter with the help of Tia's friend who was a resident of Earth. Ryan didn't know who she was but he was thankful to her but even with her help he had his strength restrained to not break the balance.

This was a known fact among supernatural beings that a planet has a determined limit of power tolerance and above that limit any amount or type of power would be locked for them to descend on that said planet.

It was a handicap but if you think about it carefully it was not a big disadvantage because all the beings on the planet will also be bottlenecked to that said level.

But what will you do when the planet completely rejects the entry of otherworldly forces. They would have two choices, first is fairly simple, they just need to wait for the planet to come out of lockdown but the second one requires them to destroy the planet, which is almost impossible for beings who are not that high in ranking.

The stronger folks just stay away from dog fights and increase their strength with training and various comprehension and there is no meaning for them to attack low level planets which do not even have decent people to fight.

Then why attack Earth, which even lacked a decent mana flow just a year ago? Ryan had no idea about this because according to Tia the perpetrators were not just attacking Earth but various planets were going through the same thing.

And now Ryan finally found a lead. After observing Olivia's reaction he could tell that this woman named Arachne was not present during the previous runs. Well they wouldn't be here today if they met this woman before.

'Why the hell is she not restrained like me?' Ryan had a bad feeling growing inside him.

'How can she trick the universal laws? It is not possible for anyone to do that.' Ryan dodged the webs released by Arachne to bind him.

"Maybe they found a loophole." Umbra made a guess which seemed really reasonable.

'loophole huh...you might be right because no matter how good you make something, people will always find loopholes to get what they want.' Ryan agreed with Umbra.

While Ryan was going through a tough dilemma, Arachne was having her own set of problems. Her attacks were not able to penetrate Ryan's skin.

'What exactly is he?' She didn't use mana till now because she believed that it would be overkill to use mana on a human.

"I have to say, for a mortal man you are strong but to me who lived a long life, you are nothing." Arachne boasted about her superiority to Ryan who just blatantly ignored the woman and conjured multiple wind bows which released sharp arrows of wind Element.

Due to Arachne's strong sense of danger she quickly weaved a protective layer to cover her body and at the same time made sure it didn't hinder her movement.

As the queen of spiders, Arachne's weaving skills were second to none and gave Ryan a hard time as he needed to dodge and protect himself from her trapping skills.

"Ryan, do you think she is that Arachne from, you know, the shepherd daughter?" Umbra suddenly remembered the story Tia told her when they were hanging out.

'Why don't we get trapped to take out some information from her.' Ryan replied through their soul link.

Ryan carefully started to decrease his battle prowess to avoid her from getting suspicious. At first he started to miss attacks, then started damaging his skin from inside by moving small but sharp wind blades inside his skin when Arachne attacked him with her mana infused claws which were still not able to pierce his skin.

He was very subtle with it at first but soon Arachne weaved a huge web which eventually immobilised Ryan.

"Now, look how cute you are when you are not moving." She came close to Ryan and stroked his face with her hands which turned normal.

Her touch felt cold, almost like she was a corpse. Ryan didn't flinch or flush and looked at her with icy cold eyes.

"So you are that arrogant weaver who was punished for defeating a 'god'. I have to say your defeat was very funny." Ryan's face had a mocking grin as he spoke. Each word, clear and slow.

"But why are you attacking our planet? Why don't you bare your fangs on those 'gods'. Why us weak humans?" Ryan was bottling down his rage to sound calm.

"Your planet? This was just a freebie, I just came here to get rid of my grudge against it. Your planet is utterly insignificant, so insignificant that even your pantheons left you." Arachne tilted her head in a cute fashion which attracted Elijah's attention but then he saw Ryan was trapped. He panicked for a moment but soon he grinned.

'That woman is done for.' He thought as he hacked through the spider hybrids.

Elijah nodded at Olivia to stop her from saving Ryan. Olivia frowned for a moment but after that she just chose to believe in her brother and his friend.

"Was that not because they found a better place to live?" Ryan asked in his same bone chilling voice.

Arachne came closer but suddenly she looked towards the duo and smiled. She clapped her hands and the decapitated and fallen spiders turned back to their original state.

Elijah and Olivia looked at each other and sighed but then the statues started to break again but this time it was a bit more complicated because from those statues a mush of meat came out. Elijah almost threw up when he saw that but what happened next made him choke on his own saliva.

The pile of meat and exoskeleton from all statues gathered and started to combine together. The whole process was swift and soon, before them stood a 100m tall spider hybrid. Poison tickling down its skin, veins bulging all around its sick looking body. Its face is almost distorted with only things visible being their pupil-less deep crimson eyes.

'Umbra, go and help them.' Ryan transmitted to her before she turned into a bacteria sized creature and flew towards them.

Umbra joined the duo soon in her tiger form. Her roars released sound waves which affected the monster's hearing.

"Hearing too much is not good every time." She said but all Olivia and Elijah could hear were roars.

Umbra leaped forward and clawed the abomination with her sturdy paws. Umbra being a soul weapon was sturdier than any metal known to man. Her powers stem from Ryan whose power limit is not yet known but you can't really rely on Ryan if you want to judge Umbra. She's an abnormal weapon Afterall.

Anyways, Umbra swiftly made various attacks before turning into a dagger and piercing through the exoskeleton of the abomination. The Abomination used its halberd weapon and slammed it on Umbra who turned into a firefly to avoid it only to turn into a cat and slash at the vital joints of the huge spider hybrid.

The hybrid didn't have bones so the exoskeleton was supporting it. Now when the exoskeleton was not present to support the hybrid fell down which immediately gave it a handicap as it could not move until the exoskeleton healed.

Umbra's cat-like eyes shone golden as she smiled and turned one of her front paws into a sharp blade and slashed the abomination's hands. The huge halberd fell down and caused dust to fly around.

Among the dust cloud golden eyes flashed to and fro with sounds of screeching from the huge spider.

"And for the finisher-" Umbra said in an ominous voice.

"Nothing is better than fire." Umbra borrowed Ryan's flames to set the hybrid on fire.

"Try to heal now. Ugly insect." Umbra started laughing which sounded very weird to the spectators because she was in her cat form.

All they could hear was "Meows!"

Arachne felt that her pawn was killed, she was surprised because when she looked towards the duo she found that they were standing with an expression of awe on their face.

The dust settled but the flames were still burning violently. From those flames came out a cat with a disgustingly huge grin on her face.

The golden eyes of the cat struck her with a kind of embarrassment she never felt before. A cat killed her pawn, a cat which didn't even have a hint of aura.

It was like she was staring at a shadow, a shadow which had a twisted personality worse than the craziest people she met in her long life.

"Don't mind her, she's just playing. Why don't you answer me." A weirdly innocent voice of Ryan reached her ears which almost lured her to look at him.

"Ok." She ignored Umbra and the duo like they didn't exist and stared into Ryan's silver eyes.

"Just why did you come here?" Ryan asked her innocently.

"Because I hate this planet and its people." She said in a dazed voice.

"Are you that famous weaver from Greek myths?" Ryan's eyes turned a bit passionate and considerate.

"What if I am? Are you impressed?" Arachne said in an arrogant tone.

'Yup, she is undoubtedly that woman.' Ryan knew about Arachne from the Myths who defeated Athena.

Actually he read various different versions of it but Tia told him that when it comes to 'Gods' you should always believe the worst versions of the myth.

"So, you and your subordinates are taking out your grudge on us humans because you can't defeat the Olympians. You are a coward." Ryan burst out in crimson flames.

Burning the webs weaved by Arachne to dust.

"You call us cowards? We will destroy everything that is created by those gods. Everything." Arachne said as her body started increasing in size until she turned into a giant spider.

"You are free to try." Ryan said as he poured out a huge amount of mana from his body. Magic circles appeared everywhere around Arachne which exploded a moment later.

"Because I won't let you insects touch what's mine."
