The problem with running from a shifter was that a shifter was still a wolf, even out of their wolf form, and they WOULD chase you. Especially after you just find out their big secret.
Did that deter Scarlett in any way? No, but it didn’t deter her mate either.
The chase was familiar, but now the whole mood of anticipation and excitement had been exchanged for dread adrenaline born from fear.
Scarlett might have known the forest, but her mate was fast, and his legs were longer. If she shifted, she might’ve been able to lose him, but then she’d have to ditch her clothes and she didn’t think she was that desperate.
Yet.
She cursed her pride, though, when she was tackled from behind, his arms wrapping around her and cushioning her when she hit the ground. Maybe she should’ve snuck back home in her birthday suit.
