“Well, don’t just stand in the doorway. This IS your house.”
He’d been standing there for a minute, and the longer he took the longer she had to stay awake and stew about just WHAT he might need to say to her or talk about.
“Estate,” he corrected dazedly as he slipped inside, closing the door behind him. “However, this is now your room. It’s only polite.”
“Oh, so now you’re all manners instead of salacious flirting. My mistake.”
“If you MUST know, my intentions are completely pure this time. I wanted to make sure everything’s alright and that you have everything you need to be comfortable.”
“I am, but judging by your expression… you’re here for a bit more than that.”
Rowan went silent at that.
Scarlett patted the bed where she was sitting. After a moment, he joined her.
The bed dipped slightly, their shoulders pressing together. But despite the quiet intimacy of the moment, the reason he wanted to talk to her stayed on the forefront of her thoughts.
